My Motorhome gear link repair..
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is where I show you what I went through to fix a gear shift issue on my 32 year old Fiat Motorhome.
I still have lots of projects in the pipeline and lots of repeat work to do. The repeat work takes time to do and I still have chores to to. No chores mean - no brownie points and no brownie points means - no time in the shed. So please bear with me If I am a little slow in releasing new videos.
regards

Always satisfying to repair something that others might consider passed it.👍

Hi, thanks, cheers
Love it Paul, and a great result. It takes me back to seeing my ‘master’ repairing Vauxhall Bedford gear linkages on 1950s/1960s vehicles, though they were very much cruder, and were repaired using brazing to build up the many bracket-holes and rod-ends. Thanks for a very entertaining video… and I’m glad you didn’t have to tell your wife she did a poor job! Les

So am I, I remember the three on a tree linkages when I was a kid. If the links ever parted company in my dads CA, I knew where to go to pop them back and being slim them days we didn't need the bottle jack. I proves that I was useful once in my life... 🤣

@@Thesheddweller Oh Man! The CA was the ultimate ‘linkage machine’, with a load of them in the throttle control as well!! And my Ford Consul Classic gearchange was no better. Memories🤣 Les

Now THAT’S what I call a great video. Plenty of narration, explicit explanations and a close attention to detail. I see that you’ve been paying attention to Clickspring in you methodology. Fantastic video thanks.

Hi, the gear changing is spot on now. cheers.
Enjoyed watching that thanks. Goes to show when you have a lathe it's not all about making new tools or repair old ones. Sometimes it's the mostly cost saving thing for that once in a blue moon job repair job 😅. I restored an old myford ML7 and realised when you need it it saves time and money. And fun to do in fact i look for job just to use it😂.

FIAT = Fix It Again Tomorrow but in your case it won't be the parts you've just improved. A friend once had a Fiat 127 Sport with a very similar gearstick action. Every now and then one of the joints would seperate and you had crawl underneath with the mechanics high-precision adjustable impact tool to make some improvements, thereby restoring the pudding stirrer to it's previous functionality. Good work

I've yet to drive the van since the repair, but theres nothing worse than rolling to a stop while trying to find a gear... any gear. cheers
Usually fiat uses VM engines. Worth looking into it.

Hi, I know what engine I have in the van, it's a 280A1.000 1929ccTD. problem is, I can't find any information on it, not even any general service information. Still, If it goes bang one day, I'll know what else that'll fit. cheers.

Hi, thanks.
I'm continually telling my wife she didn't wiggle the stick the right way. Thank God I didn't have to ream it as well.
Why didn't you replace the ball joints and other nylon components while you had it apart? It might have saved having to go through all that effort again sometime in future.
