Thanks for sharing Tom , my father was a Navy man and served on HMS Ark Royal (WW 11), and so had interest and knowlege of ships and planes , so when I was about 6 he built planes for me until I got to 9 and built my Airfix Gladiator . Thats how it all started , now 68 I am still building and damn glad I have a great hobby to keep me distracted , as we have just gone into lockdown for the 3rd time !! Wales UK .

I hear you. When I was a child I had an obsession with model kits and built them in the hundreds. I too imagined myself shrinking to a small size and going inside my tanks etc. After almost 40 years I made a return and started building again. But I no longer dream of shrinking , apparently it was an age thing😀

Hi Brian, that's amazing! I've been to Ford Island a few times, but I never realized they had housing there. I usually went there to the see the U.S.S. Utah memorial on the other side from the U.S.S. Arizona. I bet you also pass the U.S.S. Arizona wreckage they placed there when they removed it to make room for the memorial structure over the remaining hull.

Nome of the models i made as a kid in the 70s made it to now. However i remember the stukas, gazelles, tomcats. One Christmas i went round the house trying to discover what i was getting, and it was a 1/48 f4, i recall it took me ages to paint it with a can of humbrol grey and a small brush! It did however ruin christmas as i knew what i got, never went looking again. Nice trip down memory lane, thanks

Hi Aliktren, my sister and I snooped around one Christmas season too. We learned of everything we were to receive and they were all amazing gifts. It totally spoiled the Holiday when we opened the presents as there was no anticipation or surprise. I don't even like handing out gifts to others only to have them opened right in front of me days ahead of Christmas Eve/Day.

Thanks for sharing your modelling journey.....I suspect that we all started during our childhood and returning to models after long hiatus is a reclamation of a life full of ease, care-free enjoyment and simplicity. By the time I reached 18 and began my adult journey I had built close to 200 models of all descriptions.....carefully put away in a chest which unfortunately my nephews found and decimated....none survived. I returned to the hobby in my late forties and love it!!

Thanks for sharing the remants of your journey. I love your work. In my early teens I built many planes and armor kits. I lost all of them when I discovered girls and cars and pubs and sports in my late teens and twenties. I'm 65 now and more keen than ever. Sadly I fear I have many more unbuilt kits than fit into my remaining lifetime. Fortunately, as the result of a cunning indoctrination on my part, I have a son who became as hooked as I am although, at present, it's limited to Gundam. I live in hope he will come to love cars, bikes, armor, aircraft, Star Wars, ships and trains. Otherwise I will come back and haunt him until he does.
