The plant in your dad's shamba used as tissue paper in many African villages is scientifically known as Coleus barbatus (previously Plectranthus barbatus) and has several common names including in English Abyssinia coleus and Blue spur flower and in Swahili Mzugwa

In the Caribbean we call the plant you told your Gf is used for stomach aches French Thyme (oregano). Perfect to season meat and cook with too.

The water needs to first be tasted for foreigners to drink otherwise they might get sick. I recall when I travelled to india, my African skin reacted to the water I used for showering imagine just showering so it's general I and marwa might not get sick from the water but a foreigner might cause they're not used to it.

The first plant is called oregano, it's antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, it's very good for respiratory illness, I use the oil in warm water with honey when ever I feel a cold coming, the leaves are great for teas and also in the to season food. Caribbean ppl have planted every where on there land, or in the kitchen when there cooking.
