My Life Being A Case Manager

Being a case manager is hard work, trust me, I have been in this field for 3 years and counting. There is a lot required of case managers and there is little reward. In this video I discuss how I got into the field and what are some things that I like/don't like about the job.

Thank you so much for this insight into what it's like being a case manager! I'm currently trying to get into the field as a psych major. I'm a little nervous w out a BSW, but videos like this help me know what case management is like on a day to day basis

I don’t have a bachelors and I’m a Case Manager and so are a few people I know. They either have experience (they lived the life) or they have an AA like myself. I am shooting to get my Bachelors in Social Work soon !!!that’s my goal :) I want to work for DCFS but I was lucky to have gotten hired in my field so I’ll enjoy and absorb as much as possible for now :)

That’s good for people to know. All the jobs I’ve ever seen required a Bachelors. If you get a Bachelors does it come with a raise or allow you more opportunities?

Thank you for your video!! I have a lot interest in working in the case manager field. I do have a couple questions: I currently have a BA in Psychology and I have been working in the autism field with kids (ABA) for a few years, would that help me in obtaining a job as a Case Manager? I'm currently pursuing for my MS in Behavioral Psychology! Also, is this a field you see growing in years to come? Thank you!

  • @righteousroses

Yes you can be a case manager with a BA. The requirement for my last job was that you have to have a Bachelor’s in a human service field (psychology, social work, behavioral healthcare) and I see a lot of case manager jobs that require the same. I do see the potential for the field to grow especially with people addressing mental health more due to shootings and other traumatic events that happen.

What area do you live in? You may be able to call your insurance (If you have Medicaid) and locate a targeted case manager provider. The may assign them through Metropolitan Ministries, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent De Paul. Try also calling 211/411.

I would need a little more information, but if you don’t have a degree in human services then you would start there. If you go to indeed and look for case management positions then the cite will populate those jobs and other ones like it. Are you having hang ups with a job interview or some other problem?

Hello, I’m thinking of getting into this field and I’ve heard many different things (good and bad) from people in the field. Mainly being no work/life balance? And the salary sucks lol would you say this is your case? I have a kids and everyone needs $$$ so it’s making me have second thoughts. Your insight would be helpful thanks!!!

It depends on your situation. For me I entered this job from college so the pay increase was great for me. If you don't have a lot going out then I think the pay is fine. I would suggest finding a job that does a pay increase over time though. For work life balance, I would say it's possible. I have a life outside of work...mainly on the weekends. I also don't have kids but I know people who do have kids but they have a support system

Hi, Depends on your definition of good pay. I just started doing targeted case management and that can start off at $19/$20 per hour. Maybe she would be interested in being a program director of an agency or a subdivision in an agency. There is also quality management, they over see case managers and monitor specific measures that have to be met for policy standards

Hello I am currently looking at this career path. Most likely be paying out of pocket so my biggest concern is the years it would take to complete a degree and what would be the best degree to obtain to become a case manager?

  • @righteousroses

You will need a 4 year degree and I would suggest going for a bachelor's in social work (BSW). You may be able to find a job where you can get hired to do something else and they may be willing to work with you as you become a case manager (i.e. someone who is an intern, volunteer, transporter, administrator, etc)
