Glad you made it home safely! Every time I drove that car, I wondered if it would break down. It was sketchy when the passenger window wouldn’t close and I had to drive to your house at night from Liz’s Airbnb- not fun or warm. Also, be grateful for the Florida weather; it is supposed to get to -51 degrees here on Friday and Saturday. Schools have already canceled and warming centers are opening up for those in need. It’s going to be crazy.

Those issues you're having are completely normal when your charging system isn't supplying the necessary voltage. You should get a meter so you can check battery voltage & charging voltage so you know the condition of your battery/alternator. It's good to keep in your car. $800 for an alternator is crazy!!! Hopefully they got an oem alternator. Never buy a remanufactured one. I've had them fail as soon as I installed them, or shortly after. Good luck with everything.

He got ripped off! I am a mechanic and the labor alone for that car isn't 2 hours. That's BS! I can replace the alternator on that car in 15 minutes flat! I owned the same model and year and am very familiar with it. Very easy repair. They hosed him. He also should have bought the part himself and took it to them. Also, Pep Boys are trash. A bunch of wannabe backyard mechanic kids out of high school.

Bad battery and possible alternator. Easy fix. I had a friend in an old 86 camry that had a dying alternator which wouldn't charge her battery while it was running. Did something similar to your lexus. Was sputtering and dying on the hwy at night because the headlights drained the battery and alternator more. I swapped my battery into her car just to make it home while my alternator tried to charge her already dead battery. Her car ended up killing my battery as well. Honestly you can do the alternator in a parking lot in 15 minutes. Gotta love how easy they built these V6s

alternators not too bad of a job to DIY, it’s top mounted, :( check for parasitic drain somewhere in the car as well, could be a minor one + the upgraded audio system causing you issues. big 3 might also be a mod worth doing to help recharge faster,

Yep, good call. Fellow '93 ES300 owner speaking - I've owned it since new. The capacitors on everything electric in Toyota products of that era are prone to leaking - which in turn causes all sorts of random problems, like parasitic draws from the speaker amps, or weird misfires in the ECU.

My 2001 ES300 did this and it was the battery. It had a AAA battery when I bought it. I replaced it with an Interstate battery and all issues were solved. The alternator is the OEM that came with the car. Totally a battery issue for me. Coincidentally, the cruise control never worked while driving with a AAA battery. It started working with the Interstate battery.

It's the weak 80 amp Alternator. Doesn't like any accessories like phone chargers or head units. Get a 130amp one from a highlander or a 90amp from an avalon. Idk why they put the weak camry 80 amp in a lexus. My 2001 has ate two 80amps before I got smart and all I have is a fm transmitter aux thing with a stock radio.

Happened to my mom's Lexus RX before. Get your alternator and battery checked. And give it a jump and let it sit for a few minutes so that the battery has some juice. Also, if your car is still having problems after replacing the alternator, check your radio to make sure it isn't drawing any unnecessary power when the car is off. Also, the alternator in my mom's old car cost about $400 to replace. But pepboys is corporate so I guess $800 is the norm

When you say Type R, the R comes out as “ARE” when say BRZ the R comes out as “ERR” Type Are and B ERR Z. Cracks me up. For $800.00 I hope you got OEM Lexus parts. Manny Moe & Jack ain’t cheap

I hope that didn’t come across as rude or disrespectful. It was just an observation on my part. 😁 I have a 2006 Lexus GX 470 and I know the challenges the keeping an older vehicle on the road. Thanks for sharing!
