Lizard is the ultimate grower album, even professional critics changed their minds on it years later. Something to look forward to in 80s KC is that Bill Bruford is still a madman on the drums.

Don't push yourself too much to be social. The true, introvert nerds among us understand that it takes a lot of energy for you to reply to everything. King Crimson is my favourite band (together with Univers Zero and 1970s Banco del Mutuo Soccorso), but their 1980s albums are their weakest IMHO (but still good). Fortunatly there are a lot of gems among their later albums. Sadly I haven't had the money to buy any of their big box sets. The following list is based upon how much I have listened to different albums over the last 21 years (yes, I know I'm a nerd). The full list has a lot more obscure stuff on it, but live albums, tour boxes, and bootlegs that I only have listened to a few times is left out of this list. 1. The Power to Believe (2003) Studio album 2. VROOOM (1994) Studio EP 3. Red (1974) Studio album 4. Level Five (2001) Live EP 5. Larks' Tongues in Aspic (1973) Studio album 6. THRaKaTTaK (1995/1996) Compilation of live improvisations 7. Lizard (1970) Studio album 8. In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) Studio album 9. The construKction of light (2000) Studio album 10. Starless and Bible Black (1974) Studio album 11. A Scarcity of Miracles (2011) Studio album (as Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins) 12. EleKtriK Live In Japan (2003) Live album 13. In the Wake of Poseidon (1970) Studio album 14. Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind (2015/2016) Live album 15. Discipline (1981) Studio album 16. Islands (1971) Studio album 17. Beat (1982) Studio album 18. THRAK (1995) Studio album 19. Live in Chicago (2017) Live album 20. Live in Toronto (2015/2016) Live album 21. USA (1974/1975) Live album 22. Heavy ConstruKction (2000) Live album 23. Three of a Perfect Pair (1984) Studio album 24. The Great Deceiver (1973-1974/1992) Live album 25. VROOOM VROOOM (1995-1996/2001) Live album 26. Live in Philadelphia (1996/2008) Collector's Club live album 27. Live in Vienna (2016/2018) Live album 28. Live in Guildford (1972/2003) Collector's Club live album 29. Earthbound (1972) Live album

I could say In the Court of the Crimson King is my First, Second: Red and then all the others. K.C. has great pieces of music but one in particular I am never tire of listening is Fracture: What and instrumental! Everything is in there: subtilty, virtuosity, surprising climaxes and a grand finale . It is an incredible piece by Fripp. Thanks for another great video. Perfect to finish a hard working week.

I only got to see King Crimson once live: I got to see King Crimson (I forget the name of the incarnation) open for Dream Theater in Minneapolis a number of years ago. Prog paradise! Levin was there, as was Belew. I prefer Wetton era King Crimson, but I enjoyed this immensely. They even played Dinosaur. :)

My favorite King Crimson album? Oh, that's really a hard one to answer. I suppose it depends on my mood really. My view is that there is no such thing as a bad KC record, some are just better than others. Just for fun, I'll do a top 5 list in no particular order. 1. Red 2. Lark's Tongues 3. In the Court of.... 4. Lizard 5. Discipline I could go on but I said 5. Thanks for your channel and I'll be checking back from time to time. I think it's wonderful that you have a passion for music, especially KC! Keep it up! P.S. I'm very envious of your KC boxed sets! Nice!

Not to sound cliché, but my favorite K.C. album is probably "In The Court"....Although I do believe the first one I ever heard and got into was "Lizard". That was my introduction. I love all their albums; mostly the early stuff, but one album I do adore and is always criminally overlooked imo is "Discipline". I'm sure you've heard it, but if not I highly recommend it. I'm sure you'd dig it. Btw, as much as I love "Red", I always feel it could've used a better cover/album art. Like if we were cheated out of something more epic to match the music within. But, I guess maybe that's just me. Anyhoo, cheers! Great video! Long live King Crimson!

Hi Niamh, I have been watching your reviews on KZread for several weeks and I like your reviews! As to your question about favorite KC albums, my favorite is "Court." Every Time I hear or read the name "King Crimson," I think of "In The Court of the Crimson King," especially the title track. (FYI, I only have 4 KC albums to-date: Court, Poseidon, Larks and Red.) Oh and before I forget: in case you do not know, when the band Asia (original members) reunited in 2006/2007, they played the song "In The Court of the Crimson King" live. It is on DVD. I look forward to more of your reviews!

I gave been listening to King Crimson and ELP a lot lately since watching your videos. I was aware of these bands but besides Lucky Man, Karnevil 9, and one or 2 other ELP songs, I hadn't really bothered listening to either band. Both bands have really grown on me now. Just want to thank you because I've been wanting to listen to something different lately and I'm not a big fan of the latest rap and hip hop. I like technical , and long songs. And songs with lyrics that make you think. Now besides Tool, I gave been listening to King Crimson and ELP a lot lately.

King Crimson sets the Bar . First heard them many years ago . Seen them many times . I have all the Boxes as well as original first copies of there catalog . Japanese issues as well. Many years ago that first record grabbed me and RED took my head off . My Favorite is RED . They still amaze me . Crimson to me had that extra Element that only Inner Mounting Flame record can match RED. Court has that power as well but differently. LARKS BIBLE BLACK, RED . It's all one Piece . I dissect these records endlessly for 40 years. Miles Zappa Beatles Hendrix Allman Brothers get same treatment.

I said in another comment on the Red video but if you want to hear a very cool live version of Fallen Angel it actually should be included in the LTIA boxset, it’s an improvised version from the Zoom club in 1972, it’s fantastic and a great window into fripps process. Sorry if I’m repeating myself, I don’t mean to explain something in a boxset you already own, I was just very excited to discover it because Fallen Angel was also a favorite of mine and I wanted so badly to hear it live

King Crimson is one of the few prog bands I can enjoy and not just for Bill Bruford’s next level drumming who is one of the best three prog drummers with Collins and Palmer being the second and third. I am not the only punk who thinks so as none other than Kurt Cobain was also a fan of Red. For prog fans he was in a band called Nirvana. Favourite King Crimson album - anything with Bill Bruford.

King Crimson is my fav band of all time. And the one band that, being not generous with that classification, has 6 (!) albums that score 10/10. ITCOTCK, Lizard, LTIA, SABB, Red, Discipline. To compare, I think Yes and Genesis have both 2 albums with this classification, Pink Floyd has 3. But next to these 10’s, all KC albums are great, check out the later stuff, also their latest studio album from 2003, Power to Believe is incredibly good! And to end... LTIA is their best for me, check out my IG post on the “close to the edge of prog” account. Keep up the good work!

Hi Niamh. How about that top-30 list of 50th-anniversary albums I mentioned. Such a phenomenal year, '71. Indeed, you could make a top-50, no trouble. '71 might be surpassed only by '72. I think it would cover all the rock genres, though. Just a suggestion. And would Islands make your list for '71? For me, Islands remains one of Crimson's most under-appreciated works. I mean, Sailor's Tail alone is worth the money. Best wishes.

Amazing collection. My fave is RED too. How different is Steve Wilson's remix? You're only missing 6 proper studio albums to have all the KC albums. The three 80s records which sound 80s in a,,,,,different way. A lot of interlocking guitar and Chapman stick parts. Discipline, Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair. Then another hiatus. Thrakk from 1996. A bit more heavy in parts and some great songs but not their best. Still need it though. Then,,,,,The Construktion Of Light and The Power To Believe from the late noughties. A bit more metal and industrial in there. Then of course zillions of live stuff, comps, remixes and EPs.

Red definitely does have a what could have been vibe to it, I often wondered what the proposed 1975 material would’ve been like. As I recall it was just Wetton who wrote any sort of fragments.

You can also try Polish group Republika that was influenced by later KC. Republika was popular band in 1983-2001.

Hi. I watch you a good bit. I enjoy a young person's take on the music I have loved my life long. I don't know if you have ever heard of the Chicago group The Flock, but you should check out their second album Dinosaur Swamp. I think you will find it quite good. It came out in 1970 and has been one of my favs from the first listen.

King Crimson is one of my favorite groups. Pick one...put it on....i'm all good.🤓 Keep with it Niamh. Enjoyable content always. Worth every minute of yours and our time. Looking forward to Saturdadday. ✌🤘🖖 P.S. I am going to keep watching even though you dont respond to my every comment. You have a lot of fans now. Many people want to interact with you. That's what the point is. Please don't worry about some whining turd, who thinks you don't interact. Please refer back to your "issues with the vinyl community " post. Everyone wants people to like what they do. Some people like taking the piss. Others like being supportive. You are not obligated to reply to anyone. I like when you respond to me of course but as I see your number of watchers and subscribers increases i know the amount of time needed to respond to every coment across several social media networks must nearly be a full time job. So keep keeping it real. We love you.......no excuses.😁 see you tomorrow.

Try Polish musician Czesław Niemen especially album Enigmatic (and other albums on YT, 3 of them in English, I do not put links because YT can remove comment). He was most famous Polish musician 1967-1978 and made few progressive albums. Production in Poland was not so good as in England, but music can be interesting. PS. My favourite KC is Lizard. Song 'Epitaph' was voted by polish radio listeners to be in the 10 most important songs ever. We had poll for 25 years (1995-2019) (whole lists can be found on YT as 'top wszechczasów trójki' that means 'all-time top', similar top is also in duch radio).

I listened to In the Court through Red a lot in high school, years later re-discovered them and now enjoy all of the eras, but especially the live shows with Wetton and Ian Wallace, and shortly later with Jamie Muir. I've collected all of their 40+ KCCC live cds and recommend them. The newest band put on an amazing show in Denver Sept./2019!
