Ismay Hellman, (they/she), a West Coast, non-binary singer-songwriter, has music in their veins. Their grandfather founded the long-running Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, which Ismay worked at since they were a child. Ismay tends the ranch in Petaluma, California when they’re not jamming to country and bluegrass with friends and family in the barn. Musically, they struggled with their inner voice and had trouble fitting into the typical country music they were raised with. From birthing lambs and riding horses, the sound and vibes of nature are infused into their unique voice, which brings a fresh perspective to classic bluegrass tones.
My Kind of Country is a fresh take on a competition series, breaking down barriers in country music by providing an extraordinary opportunity to diverse and innovative artists from around the world. Scouts Allen, Guyton and Peck each hand-pick a roster of exceptional up-and-coming artists and invite them to the home of country music in Nashville, Tennessee, to showcase their unique sound.
