To me, owning an XJ is more of a hobby. I've been sorting out my '01 for the past three years and the issue of heat soak was a bit of a challenge. My AC needs to be addressed which will require removing the dash to access the evaporator which may correct the problem - but in the meantime for me the 4X55 AC works, as little as I drive. I replaced the factory heat shield between the intake and exhaust manifolds, wrapped the fuel injectors and still had the heat soak issue. I put a relay switch in to be able to kick on the E fan at my will. Overheating has now been checked off the list.

Both my 2000 XJ's the electric fan only turns on at certain temp ls, not related to AC being on. Hope you don't have a heater core leak, very common, have to take dash out. If the heater core is leaking, also change the evaporator core while you are in there. Thanks for the video

@@KCars Back flushing the complete coulant system did drop the temp on my XJ a lot. I used radiator cleaner to eleminate deposits before flushing. When you smell coulant inside your car like you noticed and the coulant level is getting low all the time, the heater core is very suspicious indeed.

If you are washing out the cooling system and the heater core using a garden hose connection, be very careful not to over pressurize it, or you will have a leaky core. Ask me how I know…

If you are loosing coolant with no leak use a tester for exhaust gasses in the radiator. It can be a head gasket and burning it in the engine.

Since you're replacing the water pump, you might want to consider replacing the mechanical fan clutch at the same time. Mopar parts are the best, but they tend to be expensive. Since you seem to live in a not very hot environment, you can get away with an aftermarket fan clutch just like you seem to be doing ok with an aftermarket electric fan.

  • @KCars

If the need arises, you can look to get the "HD" fan clutch. Hd xj clutch is the same as the standard zj clutch. Looks much larger, engages at a higher ratio. Lots of air noise from it but you get used to it over time. That along with a full overhaul of good parts (hesco) has kept my jeep very happy during hot summers and cold winters, 210 consistent and driving will bring it down a bit, too. Need to get a correct thermostat on it...

Heyy love your jeep also appreciate your vids but you have to check your fuel pressure. Your fuel pressure looks kind of low on the gage. It should be in the middle when you are driving. If not then you are in danger of having a low pressure which while damage your engine. Your engine oil pump might be a reason for low pressure. You can put in a cleaner and when your doing a oil change also run thicker oil or put lucos oil stabilizer in it.if it doesn't change that means your pump is on its way out and it needs to be changed. This what happened to me and I had to get a new pump which fixed the pressure. Hope this helps you take care.

If you're smelling a maple syrup odor inside the jeep - expect a heater core leak. Or you may have a cracked head as your mysterious coolant leak. You are low on Freon - AC clutch cycling quickly. Your electric fan will operate when the ac high side reaches a certain number, 300+ psi if I'm not mistaken.

@@KCars it actually works off the high pressure sensor on the AC system, so if you let your AC run for awhile it may actually come on, prior to 2001, it worked off the climate control switch so it would turn on when the knob selected any AC setting.

@@tylerhale1696 i think so, before those mods with a new shortblock, new radiator, and new water pump, driving with my AC on in hot weather it would run 215 driving, and stop\idling it would creep till i turned the AC off. plus its just personal preference and experience that i prefer my engines to run on the cooler safe side. i come from the drag \street racing world, running above 170 is pushing it for me personally. knowing what temp your oil, and tranny fluid start to break down and lose thier effectiveness will make you think twice about thinking that running a 4.0 close to 220° is normal.

70s is not hot. Talk to me when you hit 110. Matt's off rd recovery takes their xjs out above 110 regularly ands runs them hard. Lots things can cause overheating. Throwing money at the jeep might not fix anything. You should really test the parts before replacing everything. Flowcooler water pump was worse for me. I suspect you have a bad fuel pump which was causing some stalling you mentioned in another video. The overheating could literally just been the hotter temperatures .
