My Instruction Plan Didn't Work! Moving the LEGO City!

Ойын-сауық

What do you know... Bricksie made another MISTAKE! Nothing that can't be fixed though and with every negative there is a positive! In this video, we come up with a new storage solution for the instruction manuals and in doing so open up more space in the LEGO room. In addition to the storage changes, we also move the entire city over!

I would say get a base for it with wheels on it so it can roll relatively easily, but then again having the instructions in the shed isn’t the end of the world.

Ultimately I decided that the cabinet with the instructions is better off in the garage because it allows us to put a shelf in the furnace room that can be used to store stuff we actually need such as backlog, part bins, etc. If I ever need to reference instructions after a set is built I usually download them - so having the instructions close by is unnecessary. So the negative turned into a positive!

Wow managing space in the Lego room is almost a fulltime job! Great idea to get a filing cabinet for the instructions! For the link between the city and the residential area, you could build a small bridge to link the two tables cluster, I think it would look great!!

Glad 'project filing cabinet' was a success in the end, you're right about not needing the instructions close to hand because it's so easy to download them when needed for a quick reference. Looking forward to your AC being done so you can connect up the two MILS road systems, really enjoying building MILS myself and find it very therapeutic, still delaying my Assembly Square transfer though...! 🤪

I would say periodically check your instructions for moisture or “warping” I guess with them in the garage. Seeing as our temps fluctuate like a yo-yo. Lol. I don’t know how bad the humidity gets for you out west, but here in Ontario it’s all over the map in the summer. Plus on a side note, you should do a video of your cleaning/dusting routine for the city and shelf sets as I’m very curious as are many others I bet. :)

I'm also very curious about dusting. I have a tiny fraction of the sets he does and can't keep them clean. I ended up only putting sets inside cabinets with glass doors to manage it. His room, sets, and shelves don't look dirty at all!

Not sure if anybody mentioned already but could always make a quick plywood box/platform on locking casters to set that file cabinet on so all your need to do is roll it forward when you need to clean filter. Lots of casters hold 100’s of pounds and if concerned with cabinet sliding on plywood, could always fire a couple metal to wood screws thru bottom of file cabinet into plywood. Just a thought for this or if you run into another situation down the road. Looks great as always, keep it up!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Suggestion!!!!!! Just a suggestion. But for the downtown city area I would move the corner garage to where you have assembly square, at the end of the table where you connecting the tables. Then you could take out that random road plate and have more room for more buildings or a park. Just a suggestion.

I'd advise against storing paper in a garage in both harsh Canadian winters and humid summers as things like excessive moisture, pests and insects will destroy those items quicker than you think in a filing cabinet. Air tight plastic sealed containers are your best bet and even then there are risks. I'd find a corner of an office or spare bedroom to keep the cabinet in or like someone said, get a caster base for it so you can move it when needed. Just my toonie cents. 😉
