My Insane Cassette Collection From The 80's - What Influenced Me As A Kid!

Музыка

In this video I decided to show my cassette collection from the 80's which for some reason I still have in my possession. While going through a huge storage trunk I came across all these old Cassettes and decided it might make an interesting video to go back in time and look at this stuff. It was a trip for me to go back in time, and remember when I used to listen to this stuff on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy the journey with me. This music had a huge impact on my musicianship and influenced me greatly.

As a 23-year-old who just bought a 27-year-old car with a cassette player I’ve been getting into cassettes I currently have made a few mixtapes with a shoebox cassette recorder and I own one professionally recorded tape(Tracy Chapman) thank you for this video I’ve been geeking out over cassettes lately. But this isn’t my first obsession with analog media.

OK, so I grew up with parents that are now 60 and Im 40 and they are rock n roll nuts and they had a vacation house in a warm part of WA state that is 3+ hrs each way, we went most weekends and always listened to records (on cassette tape). We listened so much they wore out, got wet in convertible and more but mostly still work today. Modern technology doesnt carry the same feel, where you are building a collection that represents who you are and will become, its not a limiting representation but one that you rocked loudly through the neighborhood, saying, lets rock n roll. Jethro Tull is among the stuff we loved most as a family, ans Styx edge of the century, as well as Bad Company, Bad Co VH I and VH II and all day all long they would rock the band RAIL!!

I found a case full of cassettes at an old worn down house we were cleaning out for a demolition team (I worked for the dump at the time and we were called in to clear out houses due for demolition) we got to keep whatever caught our interest and usually that's stuff like books, magazines, comic books, newspapers etc; anything that will last a long time in storage, as most of the other items were destroyed with the passing of time, and cassettes are one of those things that last forever. I took home some cassettes dating to the late 70s and early 80s at the oldest, and they still sounded like they were brand new.

That is one awesome collection of cassettes there dude. I grew up through the 80's listening to most of my music on vinyl and cassettes. I didn't really start buying CDs until about the early 90's when I got my first CD player. One of my favourite cassettes I had bought in 1987 when it first came out was Appetite For Destruction by Guns N Roses. I played it over and over back then when I was about 12 years old. Sadly a few years after that the cassette deck on my hifi system rather badly chewed it up. I think I wore it out in the end. I have it on CD and vinyl now. I still buy CDs and I love collecting vinyl but I've also started getting back into cassettes again recently since a friend of mine gave me a hifi they no longer wanted with a twin cassette deck on it. I have bought some really good tapes from a local charity shop I work in and have also got a lot of the Beatles albums on tape off ebay too so I now have one of my favourite bands on vinyl, CD's and tape. Cassette tapes have seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years which I think is great. Watching this really was a trip down memory lane. Great memories.

Van Halen from when I saw them. Part 2, there's a part?! The excitement in your voice at that very moment. It was like you were a kid again being drawn in by Eddie. Awesome Marty, just friggin' awesome!!! I actually miss old cassettes man. You could rewind em with a pencil while listening to another tape. The music almost never had to stop! It's convenient nowadays but it's just not the same as interacting with cassettes or vinyl... I'm not much for cd's but man some old cassettes and vinyls I can get down with!!! 🤘🤘🤘

Lol! It was exciting to find that cassette. 😁. I think cassettes and Lp's made us listen to all the songs. And discover tunes we liked better than the "hits". It was truly enjoying the art and music for its entirety. When CDs were invented it became too easy to skip through an album or song. I feel like it became too sterile and "immediate".

Thought that was a very cool vid! It’s fun to go back in time and I don’t know anything that can take you back in time more than music. It’s like you hear an old song that takes you back to a certain time spent with an old girl friend or hanging with buddy’s! I got to say to the youth of the 80s definitely had some of the best music growing up!

Thanks Joseph! You know, when I do videos like this, it really takes me back too. We had some great music in the 80's. I think music from anyones "coming of age" period of their life evokes fond emotions and memories. That's why music and art are so important. It makes me kinda sad that most everything these days is digital. I feel like tangible product and materials adds to the experience. It's less synthetic and real. Thanks for watching man!

Been recording music from the radio since 1968. Been converting them to MP3's for the last 9 years (I have 98 of them). Lost interest in doing that for a while, then a sense of urgency was initiated. Cassettes have a limited life-span, estimated to be 30 years. Eventually, MOLD takes place on the tape itself. Yes, mold. Even in the case, good conditions, etc. If you're using cassettes, copy them to some other type of medium ASAP. You don't want to lose what's on them.

I had three cases filled just like that. My wife sold them at a yard sale because I didn't have a cassette player anymore. Now I've got an old Harley with a cassette deck and nothing to play in it. Can't buy them at the convenience store anymore. Bummer
