i think one of the reason why they prefer boy instead a girl it is because of their culture of having a dowry when marrying. A woman gives a dowry to a man like cash, host of the event, furnitures, i think accessories and other things that are needed. So if you're from a lower class it maybe hard to find a match or some it may base it to their capacity before marriage.

@@zachzoldyck1796 actually dowry is illegal in India.. It's the people who used to do it... And lower caste people are not poor...Most of them are in big MNCs...They have reservation... They area also rich..Its the Highers caste people who have to suffer to get jobs bcs a 40% marks lower caste boy will get job but not a 90% marks high caste boy... Don't fall in west propaganda of Casteism about India... And India in 49% girl and 51% boy...Girl and boy thing doesn't matter anymore in India especially in Cities and some developed villages but yeah you can say some backward areas do practice these things...
