This is an amazing idea. I used to play a game like this with my friends (much simpler). But if the game is successful, you could probably expand to add more animals in the same environment to add variation and make it harder for the hunter. I think the base idea is definitely enough though.

Like previous comments, the deer needs a health bar. With a one hit kill applying to the brain and heart and perhaps an option to heal if you escape the hunter after being hit with a non fatal shot. Like the deer has to lick it wounds to heal that takes time and only applies to playable deers if they do not stop to lick their wounds eventually they bleed out? Also maybe a cap on the amount of arrows the hunter can use so they can’t just run around shooting every deer in sight until they win. I might have a few more suggestions in the future but you guys are nailing the base game! Can’t wait to play.

Some ideas that I have that you guys may be working on already is: Death Cam should have 2 modes following player or free roam. Mainly because some players want to lay back after dying and just watch the action by changing camera view. As well perhaps only allowing death cam to see through objects just in case. Spawns should be randomized (only if the map is huge) since seekers may start strategizing and develop routes by memorizing AI spawn points to win faster instead of seeking. This would obviously not be needed if the map is smaller and hiders can reach all across the map A fun addition to the deer would be some taunts, I see you already added the farts. Perhaps when the countdown for the hunter is still up, let the deer be able to hit the house with their hooves just to create a loud and obnoxious banging I would also try to add some decoy abilities (with cooldowns) to the deer just so they can blend in more in case they get caught with the sound. Perhaps small pellets that represent poop, and have AI deer poop as well once in a while Maybe adding some objectives to the deer so they can win or have some condition that they have to hold out to a certain time to then be able to attack the hunter, somewhere around those lines And of course these next few ideas will come with time; more maps, more customization, emotes,

Ah yeah, new asymmetrical game! Never enough of those. My suggestions- maybe have stuff like hunting towers where the hunter can climb to get a better view of the area, at the cost of needing to actually take the time to climb up and down. Maybe different type of bows? Like a crossbow that would fire instantly, instead of needing a second or two to be drawn, allowing the hunter to shoot the deer as soon as they see it, but taking some time to reload between shots. Punishing missed shots, or shooting the wrong deer, more than the standard bow. ...speaking of which, maybe make the draw speed of the standard bow a tad slower? Or maybe a fucking gun, allowing the hunter to shoot multiple bullets in succession, but- y'know... Gun is loud, go bang, deer know exactly where not to be now when they start hearing bang. Maybe a limit on the hunter's ammunition, needing to return to the house, or head to some other resupply spot, every few shots, so they can't just easily mow down the entire population of deer without consequence. Maybe the resupply spot can be the aforementioned hunting tower. Also, noting the clip at the end- Maybe having a slight animation when a deer's stomach growls? Like, a slight visualization of the rumbling of the stomach or something, if it gets too easy to just... hide in a crowd of deer and not worry about your stomach growling, that would be a way to assist the hunter in finding out which deer's stomach is growling. Because as-is, it seems the growling really just serves to show the general area the deer is in. Alternatively, maybe have the deer eventually starve if they go too long without eating food. It can be a decent amount of time to not add too much pressure, maybe a minute or two, or at least as long as it took to go from full to hungry, but it would prevent a deer from just... Hiding in a bush all game and hoping the hunter just can't figure out where you are, even if they know the general area thanks to the growling. Also, maybe allow the hunter to place some food on the ground? Like, as bait, hoping the deer goes in the area to eat it. Any new, unique mechanic that could give a player a different way to try and play the game, or just mess around with, can help. Since we're going with modern tech- hence, the trail cams. Then probably give the hunter an orange vest. Literally just look up 'hunting vest'. Safety is important, after all. Maybe reward accuracy, having shooting a different spot do different things, rewarding accuracy. A vital shot~ head, heart, neck, whatever ~all being the instant death, perhaps shooting a leg~ especially a back leg, considering how it runs ~would just significantly slow the deer, And anywhere else would just injure the deer, requiring maybe two shots to down if you hit bodyshots. Maybe add in some ambiance noise. Birds chirping, perhaps some sort of sound for footsteps~ of both the hunter and the deer. You said yourself, 5:59 "Sound design plays a big role in this game, because it's one of the ways the hunter can hunt you down." So, having other sounds to potentially distract the players, making them having to actually listen a bit more closely for those chomp sounds, might help a bit. Plus, ambiance just makes things that much more immersive. I don't know, I'm just throwing out all of the ideas I can think of off the top of my head. Hope any of them help.

Those are pretty good ideas. Maybe if they ever go the gun route for the game, if you shoot the gun all the deer around you run away for a few seconds until they are out of range. This would help the player get away with more moving deer on the hunters screen to distract him a bit.

@@stateflower3213 That would definitely be a great way to add further drawback to choosing to use a gun instead of a bow. Especially if the deer run in the same way as the player does. A strong weapon, able to take shot after shot, but with some heavy drawbacks to make it worth considering just sticking to a bow instead.

Different maps with different seasons of the year in real-life could add some hype and spice to the game!

Randomly saw your game through yt shorts. And came here to have a look. Great job making this game and hoping it's a great success to this as a start.

I instantly remembered Deer Simulator when I saw this video

An open mic system could be fun. Trying to be quiet in mic with a proximity chat would cause chaos.

Just a suggestion but if the deer wins at midnight they could box the player (You know since deers Can rear up and throw hoofs during mating season while I not integrate that into the game)

I love the idea so much. It’s very similar to a game I used to play called Panoptic. I think that a couple things should be added though. The only things I think should be added are a punishment to the hunter if he shoots the wrong deer so that way he doesn’t just kill every single deer until it’s just the players left and an end goal for the deer should be available so that way the deer can win, rather than winning by time.

Those are definitely good suggestions! But Instead of giving the hunter a deduction for killing random deer, we've made an arrow recharge system that makes the hunter want to conserve arrows for when they know there is a player. Shooting random deer is a great way to not have arrows for when a real player is spotted.

Such a unique and fun game idea. Im so excited for its release

Looks like fun, added to my wish list! I second the suggestions of increasing the challenge for the hunter by having the AI deer rush and punish the hunter like chickens in Zelda when they hurt too many wrong ones.

That’s a super sick idea! Maybe after shooting the wrong deer the other AI could get angry and hurt the hunter a bit. Too much damage and he loses. Thanks for the idea we’ll definitely consider this. Also thanks for the wishlist!

Amazing idea but I feel like the deer should have multiple lives and maybe some power ups to make it so being seen isn’t the end

You should make it to where if you eat enough mushrooms, you can hunt the hunter as the deer

You're on to something with this! The art style works well from what I've seen. The frankly jank (i mean this is the best way possible) run animation of the deer is hilarious. I get the feeling you already have plans to add more to the game but perhaps other playable species would work? At least other deer species. Hostile AI may even add to the challenge for both hunter and deer alike. Like say you're a deer just vibing as you do then suddenly wolves. You have to run now or get killed by said wolves.

You could add a second food that the deer can eat. It restores less hunger, but AI Deer can also eat it. Maybe like an apple?

As an idea, what if the hunter can have other gagets. Like they can switch out the tram for something like a rope trap or a bear trap that are slightly to the deer. It's kind of like dead by daylight with multiple hunters with different abilities. But overall i love the progress you made and i can't wait to play it with my friends, good job!❤❤

Wow this is awesome! Wislisted :D Would be a great party game! I do have some suggestions, for example running as a dear reduce more hunger, and adding some "poisonous" foods that'd make the deer fart, so like the chomp noise and then the fart noise combined, and leaving like a stink cloud for a couple seconds too. Also I don't think each food item should fill up to full hunger though. Love this concept too, legit cannot wait!!! Good luck!!!!

We're glad you like the idea! 1. We use Unreal Engine 5.3 2. I (Andrew) started with Unity but found that Unreal Engine scales so much better overall (for me) with development. It was difficult to learn at first but I would 100% just recommend watching KZread tutorials on random things, following along even if it may be hard, and just learning the engine. I wouldn't try to make a full scale game for a while because you will hit a lot of roadblocks, like I did, but with enough practice and learning eventually you can. Starting with small games and ideas will help you improve so much faster. 3. Mason's favorite game is currently The Finals and mine is Cities Skylines 2. I also play a lot of FPS games. 4. 100% Starting is the hardest part so just doing little by little, you will set yourself up for success.

Looking great so far! The hunter should definitely have some punishment for shooting the wrong deer too much, or just add a limited ammo mechanic. Maybe the hunter can only carry 3 arrows, and has to go back to the cabin to reload. And the deer should have a win condition, either a timer or an objective. Like maybe a bar fills up when the deer is near the hunter for a certain amount of time, and once the bar fills up you can run out of the map to escape. Also you might want to look in to having a "friend pass" system for your game that could make people more likely to buy the game. Basically you upload a free demo version of the game that can join a friends lobby but not host one. So if one person buys the game their friends can join for free.

Good ideas! We're currently messing around with the arrow system for the hunter & trying to find something that feels balanced.

Idea for maps One map has a lot of food but low hiding spot and another that is vice versa Another idea is do a map where the deer constantly switch from offense to hiding from them

I am *_PRAYING_* this gets popular. Like SERIOUSLY IT HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL!

Would be cool to have something to change it up as it get repetitive after a while. Different animals (rabbits, birds etc) that you can turn into. Different types of hunters. Different maps. Variable weather. Something like that might give it more playability. After about 30 minutes we just started trolling the hunter by running circles around him or just trying to get the other deers killed by eating near them

I'd say in the current state its too expensive. Would happily buy it for $5 and play for an hour and leave it forever. At $15 canadian I cant reccomend it without something more to give me atleast another few hours of play time

Great game idea! The hunter should get affected if they shoot the wrong deer. Maybe they can only shoot a certain amount of AI deer before they lose? Or have a certain amount of arrows. Otherwise you can just run around and kill the AI without any issues
