And they claimed that they did this because they were "being silly", and that palworld "encourages animal abuse" it had nothing to do with anger about stealing. They deleted their accusation, but are still trying to claim that the silhouettes are 'vaguely similar' Yeah, the wolf and this other wolf have vaguely similar silhouettes. I wonder why?

I'm confused from that story. So many absurd details, and you expect me to believe they pulled out this many HQ models with nobody who knew how 3D modeling (hence animation) worked for a majority of the project, with no regard for budget, etc etc etc? That doesn't sound ridiculous to you? Because it feels like a mass of contrived circumstances thrown on top of each other to me. Most novice companies trying this would have the limbs overlapping clunkily and god forbid snake-like designs looking atrocious, and that's on the visuals front. I could buy they used a lot of pre-made engine resources for gameplay and stuff, but it's still amazing the game works at all.

Regardless of the scaling -- the models are not 1:1 copies. Every aspect of them is different. Feet, legs, tail, torso, head, the whole thing. Still, people will try and say "They stole the models and then changed everything so nothing matches. They still stole!!!" (how would you know they stole it, rather than just made their own model?) At worst, they used the models as a point of reference to get proportions right. This is a far cry from "they stole the models, which are 1:1 exact copies"

To me the smoking gun is someone found a pal that’s basically a pallet swapped Mega Mewtwo Y with some small cosmetic tweaks, but if it’s not the same model it’s damn close. I think probably what happened and what people are seeing is that at least some of the pals started life as Pokémon models that got ripped and then tweaked in a model editor to create original monsters. It’s a nice way to cut corners, a large chunk of the modeling and animation was already done for you, you just have to change the meshes enough people won’t notice and of course reskin them.

Palword does what many AAA games and game devs fail to do; create and nurture a fun experience. Many companies try to be "edge-y" and different, but that's not what people want. Also, the feels good of an underdog team putting this all together makes it even better. Nintendo is definitely only looking at it now due to its success. I was skeptical of it when I heard of it a couple of years ago, but I can't get enough of it now. Also, the sales don't count Xbox and Windows (Xbox) sales or Game Pass numbers. I am buying out my copy to support the devs, even though I started with Game Pass.

Palworld actually sold more than 20 million copies already but because of the immense hate they were receiving, they had to hush the numbers. I love the irony of how the people who champion no hate to devs, go ahead and send death threats to an indie game company. Palworld is proof that passion projects with the correct direction will succeed and they deserve every bit of it.

I haven't played PalWorld yet, but it looks awesome. All the points made in the video are great. I remember seeing the trailer way back thinking there was no way Pokemon Company and Nintendo would let it get through development like sooooo many ROM hacks of the past and general Nintendo lawyer history. The fact it got this far made me think there was no case for Nintendo to go after it. I guess stolen assests (if true) would allow them to. Figures. To Mizobe, I hope you continue to take your path. You and others have made an amazing game. If Nintendo brings that down, so be it. But even if they do manage it, take pride in the product you made. The care you put into it even now is evident. Im so glad this worked out to this degree for this game.

Thank you so much for this dude, so much here I never realised about Pocket Pair. As for the AI discussion, people need to appreciate what AI actually means and stop tacking on to buzzwords and phrases as blanket statements. I am a software dev, AI is used in literally every single tool I use in my day to day job. Whether it's code completion suggestions, Pull Request summaries or asset generation. AI IS used, in almost every single game developed. Think we need to differentiate and specify what we mean when we talk about not wanting AI. AI itself isn't inherently bad, it WILL be (and already is) a valuable tool for a number of use cases. It's not all used for asset generation (which is where I believe the objection with it lies, and I agree)
