    The problem is that in Germany every small town wants an ICE stop, because every local administration thinks that their town would be so special and important for the world. This means you have very short distances between the stations which makes it uneconomical to accelerate to 300 km/h and slowing down already after a few minutes. Between Munich and Berlin you have also "ICE Sprinter" trains operated by ICE 3. They only stop in Nuremberg, Erfurt and Halle, what makes it possible for them to run with 300 km/h.

    it is the same in all europe i guess! every little town wants to have connection to high speed rail: when HSP exist to compete with planes. if you dont have major IN airport you dont need HST... it just prejudice against big cities and its useres. these trip munich berlim should be 1.30h tops non stop. same way for lisbon madrid, paris bordeus, london glasgow, warsow riga

    I don't see much of a problem in the network; Sometimes even smaller places are connected to HSR purely for the fact of their location, not due to the size of the place; Thus the only 13k inhabitants counting town of Plattling is connected to ICE HSR, while the 120k inhabitants counting nearby city of Deggendorf isn't connected, as it's simply on the wrong side of the river, with the through-going track being on the other side. On many routes there's a shared track concept combining all sorts of trains, from HSR to freight trains, from international to local commuter trains; Of course HSR won't be at actual high speed there

    Funny that here in Italy most people make fun of Trenitalia (our national train company) like there in Germany seems that you make fun of DB,expecially elder italian people are convinced that DB trains are like japanese trains that doesn't do delays ecc. just because is Germany so its all perfect for them. I think that both Trenitalia and DB are good even if sometimes they have delays, and then it doesn't exist a perfect train company, probably only japanese are capable to arrive perfect in time like a Swiss clock.

    Germany has very few segments of lines for speeds greater than 250 km/h, less than 1.000km. It possibilites to use less powerful stock and increase savings. For example, series capable of 300 km/h (406 and 407) spend more time at max speed outside of Germany (in LGV Est to Paris) than inside.

    @@NonstopEurotrip The reason for that s that Germany has, in contrast to for example France, many bigger cities relatively close to each other. This means more frequent stops resulting in less time a train can travel at top speed of 300km/h. Therefore, most HSL are "only" equipped for 250 or 280 km/h.

  • @lausimeyer6558

    @lausimeyer6558

    3 жыл бұрын

    250 km/h are enough, most distances between stops are below 100km (on Munich-Nürnberg only 80km are for 300km/h), so 300km/h don't make sense, it only uses more electric energy wich became horribly expensive in Germany the last few years. One more point is the competition. The low-cost bus system is successful with 100 km/h max-speed. So, lower fares thanks to a lower energy consumption are more important in competition than 2 minutes less travel time from Munich to Nürnberg.

    I'm bias on this one. My first ever trip on a train was on an ICE2 in 2008. My first ever trip to Europe. I felt in love, of course. After that I had the opportunity to use several other trains, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland but the ICE was always in my heart. After living there and not visiting, the Regional Banh was my daily driver and I also love them. Single deck, double deckers, diesel or electric. I bought for my kids (🤔😁) the miniatures from Marklin. So, again, I'm bias... 🤣🤣🤣

    I just recently got to make a two-way trip in the ICE 4 going from Hannover to Karlsruhe and back. This was actually my first time riding an ICE 4. It was very interesting for a number of reasons: - I also haven't been in an ICE 3 since the interior redesign in 2016 (it is now virtually the same as the ICE 4), so it was the first time I got to see that. Beyond what is said in the video, I really like the ceiling monitors that are easily visible from every seat, especially because they also occasionally show the current speed and position. - On the trip there, I got to sit in a new seat, but on the return trip, it was an old one. For those who don't know: After the redesigned (and ICE 4) interior was introduced, many people complained about uncomfortable seats, so the DB actually redesigned them and is rolling out new trains with the new design and upgrading ICE 3s and older ICE 4s on a per-car basis at regular inspections. I agree both with the verdict that the old seats aren't all that comfortable, but also with the notion that the new design perfectly addresses and eliminates the issue. In the video, I'm pretty sure it's a train entirely featuring the new design, and it really is perfectly comfortable. - On the trip there, there was ultimately a small, but acceptable delay. On the trip back, however, we originally had an 8 minute delay, then had to go on the regional rather than the high speed track for a bit, during which we somehow got the delay below 5 minutes _(even though the DB Navigator app said to expect _*_15 minutes of additional delay),_* and when we arrived in Hannover, we were *20 seconds early!* I still don't understand how this is possible, apparently the ICE 4 has a quantum device on board that can break a hole into the space-time continuum or something. Oh, and as for why I was going to Karlsruhe, I was there for a psychological and medical evaluation. I passed, and will start my apprenticeship as a train driver for the DB Fernverkehr AG this September.

    Hi, great review! ICE4s were developed to not compete with ICE3s running mostly on a full HS railways but instead to provide an upgrade to current 200 km/h IC sets consisting of rather older coaches (that Regiojet will most probably buy.. haha). The ICE4s were built this way to keep the operational and service costs lower, the overall cost was also lowered resulting in a cheaper plastic materials often used in the interior. I must say that considering all the savings, these trains still look great inside and outside but I don't find them comfortable at all (I'm used to our Czech Pendolinos).

    Well on that route the top speed of the line is even 300 km/h for most of the way but DB decided that it's more economical to buy trains that only go 250 km/h cause most of the german high speed network only allows speeds up to 250 km/h. But as they also recognized that 250 is a bit slow on some lines, these trains are currently being upgraded to reach speeds of 265 km/h, also they are going to buy more train sets of modernized version of the class 407 ICE, which has a top speed of 320 km/h, for the use on faster lines.

    You know you travel a route way too much when you recognize every single scene in a Tripreport lol! Munich - Berlin is by far the route I use the most (usually one round trip every 2 months), and since 2019 the ICE4 is the train type I use the most! And I actually like the ICE4’s and don’t understand why they get so much hate. Of course it would be nice if they were faster, but I think they are reliable and comfortable. The ICE4 wasn’t built to be faster because most routes in Germany only allow speeds up to 230 or 250 km/h. Also energy consumption increases dramatically when reaching speeds around 300 km/h, and the time saved is less worth than the extra cost of energy, at least that’s what DB said. Also the certification process was faster/easier to do. But DB realized that it would be nice if the ICE4’s would be a bit faster, and therefore they will get an upgrade to 265 km/h soon (that’s the fastest they can go without changing parts). Are you traveling in Germany so often that the BahnCard 25 is worth it? :O Btw as a recommendation, if you are younger than 28, you can use a so-called Sommerticket during the summer months. It costs 90€ and allows you to do 4 trips across all of Germany. Usually it was a paper ticket where you write the date and from/to on it (so completely flexible, you were allowed to take any ICE or IC train on that route on that day). Unfortunately thanks to Covid you had to pre-select your train online in 2020 though, so not so flexible anymore. Side note: The Meridian was rebranded to BRB (Bayrische Regiobahn) last year, which also includes the former BOB services south of Munich. edit: typo

    You will not be left stranded. At least not in the sense of being left to your fate. DB will book you into a hotel (with complimentary breakfast to boot!) at no cost. If a taxi ride will not get you to your destination. Had it happen to me more times than I like to remember. On one occasion they intended to send me and two other travellers by taxi cab from Hanover to Bonn. More than 320km! I rejected that torture because I wanted to ride in a safe train and not an automobile with whomever as driver. So I spent the night at a good hotel, had breakfast the next morning and took a train of my choice for the remainder of my journey all on DB. If your schedule allows it I would recommend that option all the time.

Yes, i would make 3rd class just 10 euros cheaper, to see who is greedy enough to accept no comfort whatsoever for a 10 euro deduction. No seats, only standing. No windows. Just got back from 12 days in Germany where we took 4 ICE trains, and I, honestly, loved the experience. Some of the rides are long, but they are much more comfortable than a plane ride so it was fine. Being able to get from Hamburg to Berlin in about an hour and forty-five minutes was incredible. If you are from outside of Germany I really suggest the German Rail Pass. My wife and I got the German Rail Twin pass for four seperate days of travel for around $415 dollars. You can get it online, but it only took us about 5 minutes to get it in the Frankfurt Airport. This pass allowed us to get on any train on those days, and it really saved us quite a bit of money as many of the trips we took would have cost 200 Euro per person each. I would highly suggest Americans, or people who come from other places with limited train access, to really look into riding these as opposed to renting a car.

    Yeah, they're great trains! I know Australia hasn't got much of a rail network but you do have old HSTs 👍🏻☺️

    I put my comments on the Berlin-Munich journey by mistake. I watched this video because I wanted to re-experience the journey I had made in 2005, hoping to re-visit all those places, but this video disappointed me AND delighted me. Disappointed because the train didn’t go via Göttingen, Braunschweig, Magdeburg etc all, but went through Thuringia, via Erfurt and Leipzig! That delighted me, too, I got to see new places!

    Great video! Actually, I don't know why I never tried this route on ICE. Berlin to Munich I have traveled many times, but always by plane :-D Btw. now I understand why you have so many views, that's because this video is really great!
