Time to say goodbye to my 650 but before I do I figured I'd put up a quick video and document what all I did to this thing. Thanks for watching. JC.

@@Volkswear That is a good idea. And one I have thought about a lot. I Got My first Bike when I was 20 Years old in 1980 and rode until about 15 Years ago. Now with Arthritis getting worse every Year and as of 3 weeks ago I have a Pinched Nerve in My back. I think My riding days are over.. Will see how the rest of this Year goes..

They are fun bikes. There is a 2016 XR650L on Idaho Falls Marketplace that was built by Rocky Mountain ATV. I think the ask price is $4900.00. Happy Hunting. JC.

I was sick of the stock gearing on mine so I instantly dropped to a 13 tooth on the countershaft and went from 48 to 52 on the rear. Turned it into a fantastic woods bike but def not for lots of highway lol

are the racks worth the weight they come with. i bought the same racks but cant pull myself to put that much weight on the bike. thanks man lmk

  • @Volkswear

I go back and forth on the racks. They help strengthen the rear frame and provide options for packing gear. I wasn’t sure about the added weight at first either. I’ve been building an 89 Transalp this past year and decided to add racks to it too. The racks give me more options for packing gear and add some protection in the event I drop the bike. I have friends who run the rack-less bags though and swear by them. I guess it comes down to personal style. JC.

You got a wet clutch which needs friction modifier which castrol gtx car oil not has. Switch now before your clutch gives up.

Heiko's Garage I think you have it backwards, you DON’T want friction modifiers in the oil…making things more fric-ticious and causing clutch slippage?! Kind of a moot point with passenger car oil anyways as most of the FM add-pack is achieved through the use of moly…now most people will cringe when hearing that because moly has a rep for being super slippery (O’Doyle Rules) and ‘back in the day’ would cause wet clutches to slip. What most people don't know is that the moly ingredient shown to cause clutch slip is Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) while the moly in most all off-the-shelf oils is Molybdenum DialkyldiThioCarbamate (MoDTC). Now MoDTC can possibly be a problem in a wet clutch application if the carrier oil is sub-20 on the high side. What I suspect is that most people aren’t changing their oil often enough to keep it from shearing out of grade…and the ‘watered down’ oil coupled with the lack of lubrication, increase in heat and maybe even the moly is what’s causing that clutch to slip,,,but I could be wrong.

The tank is way too big for off the road... I have a 4 gallon and it’s doing the job.. but my xr650l seems to run better than most other ones I have seen.. I can hit 65 mph in 2nd gear.. crazy right?

I cannot bring myself, to like those large capacity fuel tanks. They look so over sized for the bike. Butt ugly blockeee design. I might have to custom make my own. Give it some better design/style. Don't seem to be any thing else out there. Except these Butt ugly one's. And Yea! Those side bag system is extremely wide. Might as well drive a Gold Wing.
