ahh episode 7 is my personal favourite.. Thanks for pointing out Sam's subtle reaction to Mon feeling slighted, I haven't taken it in like that. Freen is such a good actor. Even Sam's face after looking at Mon when she caught the bouqet was so emotional, like it was the first moment she thought of marrying Mon.

As much as I like/appreciate showing us the memory of Sam apologizing the Jim, it did confuse me a bit too, on how much Mon actually knows then. They present it while Jim is telling the group about it but then go back to the texts, and she throws in those comments about the kiss affecting her. Mon really is clueless lol, so while the audience knew Jim was joking/just commenting on the cute friend moment, it really did spark a new type of jealousy for Mon. It does give like elementary communication, but I love it. For me, this is like validating and overdue representation in simplicity with good chemistry.

I mean Sam has literally never been allowed to be herself and communicate as herself and her upbringing as oppressive as it was, elementary communication is pretty good for her.

@@maycherryblossoms Exactly! And I think it's almost an underrated relatity in that we don't see it depicted that often but is pretty common and Sam plays it well. We can see that Sam stiil takes things in, reflect and try.

"everybody hates you" omfg girl yes Kirk is annoying af I will say in Thailand that its not as rude to propose at another person's wedding but its usually something you have to discuss with the bride and groom first to make sure its okay, otherwise it throws off the schedule and is annoying, so its not AS BAD as a faux pas as it would be in the states but since Kirk didn't tell Jim and Earth about his plan to do it, it's still insensitive. Dude is literally just like the "meritocratic nice guy" meme who thinks that just because he is 'nice' to her and does 'good' things that he deserves her.

I think the director said that he had changed the age difference because for several reasons it was too big, he preferred to put 4 years of age difference. He adapted many other small details in relation to the book. And I’m sorry for spelling and grammar mistakes I’m French and not very good in English 😅

In the source material Jim is Bisexual and had a huge crush on Sam when they were younger; you do get hints of her sexuality, but it's mostly 'blink and you'll miss it' moments. I think that a part of why Mon gets so jealous is that this has come up in their 'Sam' group chat (cannot recall the name). As another reactor pointed out, re: Sam's playing as 'chamcham', this is a noblewoman; minor royalty, making a fool of herself ~ and after a moment's thought ~ to get Mon, a commoner, to believe her. Also, does anyone else think that Yuki never made it home when Tee drove off with her at the start of ep.5? kerk ps. 2am where I am, and I am watching GAP reactions again; they are almost more addictive than the show! :-)

I know that I’ve come late to your reactions, and that a couple of months have passed since you posted this and your perspective many have changed but you keep saying that you think Sam knows she’s a lesbian, and I thought another perspective might be helpful. I don’t think Mon or Sam ever anticipated they would fall in love with a woman. I think this is a new situation for both of them and they are just trying to figure it out, as their emotions are challenging their own stereotypes as well as their own understanding of themselves. Mon’s journey is a little more transparent than Sam’s. But Sam has never been permitted to own her emotions, so when we first met her, she is totally shut down. She doesn’t allow herself to feel anything because in her grandmother’s world it is dangerous for her to feel. Feelings are punished by loss, her parents, her older sister and then her second sister. She has never known love as freedom so she has no expectation of relationships being loving, which is why she doesn’t question that with Kirk there is nothing more than an arrangement. Just my two cents worth out of my own experience of discovering my own labels in my 60s.
