Finasteride is most useful if you're just starting to lose your hair. If you take it, it will help you keep the hair you have and greatly slow down the thinning process. Some men experience a loss in libido, but it does tend to come back as your body adjusts. For those who just cannot adjust, then finasteride isn't a good option. I personally take finasteride and I adjusted after about 2 weeks. Also if you want to experience a "boost", try testofen. That stuff is great. I buy mine from Swanson Vitamins (no I am not affiliated with them in any way), they have a good product for a reasonable price. But shop around, doesn't hurt to look at other vendors. I personally am working on my own product, but I would like to experiment with it. But after I am done formulating it, I'll let you know.

*Just a heads up guys* -- Hair loss can come in many different forms. Most often it is male pattern baldness and is irreversible once it has run its course. *However* , there are other conditions which can inflame your scalp and cause temporary hair loss. Severe dandruff can cause an itchy scalp and hair loss, for instance. *Telogen Effluvium* or "shock loss" is what I experienced after my first girlfriend/first love cheated on me and broke my heart. I was so depressed and anxious that my hair literally started falling out. I was 23 at the time and thought I was going bald. I even had a dermatologist confirm it and put me on propecia. However, it never proceeded past the thinning phase. I got a second opinion and she said it was shock loss, not male pattern balding. She put me on new shampoos and had me go to counseling to address my emotional problems. My hair ended up growing back, and I'm 37 now and still have a full head of hair. I was one of the lucky ones -- but I just wanted to let guys know that you may have another condition causing temporary hair loss. Best of luck.

I think I'm dealing with something similar... started a few months back...I've been tracking my hairloss each week in baggies. Dr confirmed its thinning but not bald spots...do you have a hair specialist that you recommend? Perhaps I can get a referral from them in my area

@@thedudeandstuff169 Sorry to hear that. I never went to a hair specialist -- merely got 2 opinions from separate dermatologists. They will look at your scalp and check for inflammation. Men can go bald in several ways with pattern balding. It can start on the back of the crown and spread (classic bald spot), or can start at your temples and progress (classic widow's peak), or it can be all over the scalp (diffuse thinning). I had diffuse thinning. Do you have a noticeable scalp itch? What I would recommend is to go see a dermatologist in your area if you haven't already. They diagnose hair loss all the time, not just acne and other stuff. Then see if you can get a script for propecia. There are also ways to order finasteride (generic propecia, much cheaper) online. Once you do that, start trying different therapeutic shampoos to help with scalp inflammation. A key to slowing hair loss is managing scalp itch/inflammation.

@@persona-non-grata Yes I experience notable scalp itching and burning sensations that seem to ebb and flow throughout the day. I did have a Dr look and said it was thinning all over with no current bald spots..he prescribed Proscar (generic finasteride) but I hate taking drugs. Yes I will reach out to a dermatologist. I can't even wash my hair because any friction from scalp massage causes my hair to fall out in huge clumps in the shower. Thank you for the info RyGuy!

Using minoxidil and a light anti-androgen wont do shit for someone with aggressive hair loss like Rich. A 5AR inhibitor like finasteride should be the first thing you use. Using minox without dealing with the source of the problem (Inhibiting DHT and other Androgens) is just covering up the issue. Minox encourages hair growth but it doesn't stop follicle miniaturization

I remember when I graduated high school, I always had longer hair so it hid my balding hair line. My hair was finally long enough to pull back in a ponytail. I pulled it back and looked in the mirror and was horrified at how far back my hairline went back from my senior pic. I was looking at all my friends in the year book who were balding and looked goofy trying to hide it. Right then and there I shaved my head, and it was a sigh of relief. I looked great bald. Im 35, and don't give a shit about hair and am killing it in life. Its just hair guys, plenty things you bring to the table without it.

I’ve shaved my head for the last 5 years, but I recently discovered MSP and I’m currently busy with the MSP (micro skin pigmentation or head tattoo) and it’s a game changer. It’s not the same as a tattoo as they use a technique with a 3D effect over about 5 different sessions using using different tones. The ink is also completely different to tattoo ink. It’s organic and the needles are designed differently to make the ink mark look like an actual short hair follicle. My head looks like I shave it to a no.1 and nobody can tell the difference. I do recommend it, but Very important to use a PROFESSIONAL MSP therapist and NOT a tattoo artist. It is Completely different.

1999 I was 28, and in the early stages of a comb over, of course my buddies were taking the piss out of me, making it even way easier to cope as your buddies always do. I remember the nights looking at hair club for men or Bosely's transplants, all the stupid rug salesmen on tv or the net and started to think this was my option, there was daily stress and wind and rain was the most feared enemy. One day I was in a clothing store trying on jeans, I went to the change room and it had 4 mirrors on each wall, and a bright pot light shining down from the top onto my head. There in all its horrible glory was reality staring right at me in all four dimensions, and it was truth, truth I tried to convince my self by strategically arranging my hair that no one would notice, and so I stared at my reality, skin shining through thinning wisp of hair borrowed from the sides to bolster what was clearly fading from the top all frozen in place with gobs of hair spray, and this goes through my mind " fuck no girl is ever going to eff me like this ". I went home and all I had was a beard trimmer, but it was enough. I placed it a no guard and like a lawn mower I sheared through it all, every patch, some of the hair on the side was over six inches or more long, but sheared it all off. When I was done their was pile of hair in the sink and on the floor, and I looked up, and to my amazement I was like ok, that looks good, I can do this, and this complete sense of relief came over me, this demon that was on my back, making me insecure and week was now a pile of lifeless hair discarded on the floor, it ruled my thoughts for years and kept me down, and now I was about the suck it up a vacuum, all its dark power gone, I was effing free. The weekend came, I went to a club with my friend and met a polish girl, really cute, we hung out and talk and as was leaving with friend she told me her number and said if you can remember this when you get home I will come over, this was before cells were common, so I repeated it over and over in my head until I could get to 7 11 and write it down. I called her when I got home and she took a cab over. That weekend was amazing all my insecure demons gone, I've haven't owned a comb or hair product in 21 year and have hit the gym regularly, even if I could grow it back now id keep it cropped to 0 or 1 guard. Hair will never make you a man, I understand especially you younger guys the pain, but trust me let it go and hit the gym and succeed in life, this will give you your power.

I'd been going bald at the age of 19-ish... I got lucky being cast in an episode of a TV series that required me to shave my head. Until that point I was so afraid of going full shaved bald even though it was very clear my hair line was in terrible shape. Shaving my head rocked! A bic'd head and a bit of beard stubble looks great! Although a few years later I got a hair transplant to fix my hairline. Another great choice as I felt I could be more bookable with a full head of hair. I currently take finesteride to halt further balding which is super cheap and is basically propecia without the branding. If you're going bald, accept it! Shave your head and start living life in bald awesomeness. Or get a transplant! They're very affordable in many countries outside the USA.

Thank you Rich for uploading a video on a subject which many young guys are genuinely insecure about. One thing that most people don't realize about MPB is that there is no permanent cure. It's not like you take some syrup or tablet and then the problem is solved. It is something that can be reduced and controlled but not completely eliminated. I myself noticed my hairs thinning around 24-25 years of age and initially I used minoxidil (10%) and finasteride to control it but it wasn't long before that I started feeling low on energy. So I dropped the finasteride and kept using the minoxidil. Saw Palmetto has the same side effects as finasteride so I use this only 1-2 times a week. There is also minoxidil fortified with finasteride which seems to be working as well but even this I apply it every alternate day as a precaution.

I’ve always had a shitty hairline and started receding in my early 20s. I’ve always kept it short because I hate how it looks when guys try to cover it up. That just screams insecurity to me. I’m in my late 30s now and I’m not completely bald on top, but there is lots of receding and I’m starting to get thin in a circle in the back. It’s exactly how my mom’s dad looked. I would much rather be bald on top because even shaved you can still see the receding hairline. I use clippers with no guard because I do have some moles, and one in particular tends to get cut if I use a razor. I’ve been thinking about getting that one removed. I had a cyst removed from my head and there’s no noticeable scar.

what I am interested to hear, is your take on the role / importance (or possibly, the lack of importance) that DHT plays in men. Yes, finasteride works by reducing DHT. And we all here know testosterone is critical for men. Question is, in an adult male, is DHT important at all? With all the talk on ways to increase T, should we also be focusing on ways increase DHT (which is a more potent form of T)? Or, does DHT just cause balding, and with no positive side effects, and is ok to suppress without reducing masculinity?

I was balding thru my early 20s. Horrified at first but an older buddy at the time said it makes no difference to women if you don't let it bother you. He was right. Just cut it super short. The 'cures' are expensive, ineffective and only make you paranoid and self conscious about the issue.

I hit the hair lottery! I'm in my late fifties with a long thick dark mane. It was down to my fanny. I ended up cutting it off due to a huge hockey puck sized knot in it after a rather tough and long day working up in the attic. For the last couple of years, I've been letting it grow out again. I don't know if it will get as long as it was (due to age). But, we'll see. All through college and most of my professional career I kept my hair military high-and-tight short before letting it grow out in my late thirties. It's nice to have but I wouldn't lose any sleep if it all fell out tomorrow. There's far more important things to devote one's worry and energy towards.

It helped only a little and I have stopped using it since I've received better treatment. However I'm almost not balding at all being 47. Grandfathers, Father and 1 brother out of 2 balding heavily, other brother lightly. Probably just coincidence, but I've heard that there is negative correlation between nisoral usage and hairloss.

I took my hair loss very badly in my early twenties. Of course, I tried to intervene. First tried this French hair potion. It turned my scalp real red and itchy. Stopped that stuff. Then turned to minoxidil. Wow. Caused me to faint sporadically. Then tried Propecia. Got the issues that a lot of people about. Thankful that it was resolved. So for decades I just dealt with hair thinning. Just decided one day to shave it down. Not bald, but really short bristles. Compliments galore. In fact they love that I look like a bad ass. Can’t guarantee that for everybody, but try it. But my most solid advice is to stay away from this stuff. If people judge you for the baldness, they aren’t worth it. What truly matters is what you think of yourself. Be strong my brothers. I wish I had been.

I bought the laser helmet and using for 3 months, no real results yet but they call for a year. Might try monoxidil, agree to totally stay away from finesteride from my research. I have a full head of hair and razor shaved it for nearly 20 years. Then I suddenly got tired of doing it and curious to see myself with hair. I've been doing the hair thing now for 3 years and I'm thinking about going back. There's just something about the simple perfection of a shaved head that other haircuts just can't duplicate. I do like a shaved fade with some hair on top, but the look only lasts for a few days because it grows out so fast. I say you don't get a fade, you rent one. On the other hand I rest my arms on the top of my head and I wasn't a fan of the afternoon sandpaper grit on my forearms when I shaved it.
