Mimic was my sister's second pony ever as a kid in the 80s. I think the reason why so many people want her is because in the 80s My little Pony tv show, she was the star of the episodes called "The Golden Horseshoes". Mimic comes down with an illness that requires the other ponies to find and retrieve four golden horseshoes. When Mimic is given the golden horseshoes to wear, her illness is cured and she gains the ability to use each shoe's magical abilities. I remember those episodes because those were my fav episodes from MLP back in the 80s

After seeing this comment I looked up the episode and it's available on KZread. I forgot how bad the animation was, but it was extremely nostalgic and I enjoyed every second of it! That being said, that makes me sad that Mimic is so sought after making her almost unattainable because of how expensive she is... I hope I can own her in my collection someday.

That Mary Blair Alice doll is grail for me!

I love this video. It's fun to see what other people love. There is so much diversity of interest in the doll world and I love that. The one I love the most from your list is the Mary Blair Alice doll. She is so incredibly gorgeous. It makes me think of a doll I would love to re-collect from my child hood: a 90s Alice Skipper doll that I bought for myself at Disneyland. I think she was a park exclusive. Somehow she got away from me and I'd love to have her again. I really get what you mean about sleeping on a doll and then being mad at yourself because my main grail dolls when it comes to play line dolls are the Cave Club dolls that I am missing from my collection. I instantly loved cave club when they first came out and I just don't know why I didn't buy more of them at the time when they were in stores. I have Emberly, Tella, Rockelle, and Lumina. My main grail from the group is Roaralai but I want all of them.

Love this video Chad! I sooo want to collect the dolls from my childhood late 70s, 80s and early 90s even. Peaches and cream, Barbie and the rockers, The Sensations, California Dreaming, etc… were my favorites! Totally hair in the early 90s! I do LOVE the classic silk stone collector dolls too. I had started collecting play lines in 2016ish, as well as Pidgin Dolls but sold them 😭😭😭 in 2020 when I lost my silly mind. 😂😂

My holy grail was Happening Hair Barbie and 2002 cloe forgot the line. But these are my grail becuz they hold core memories of my love for dolls.. oh and I recently found both at goodwill 😊 I feel mostly complete 🥰

The first Disney heirloom dolls, including the first Alice, didn't sell well because nobody new about them. That was true of all the earlier Disney collectible dolls from circa 2010-2012. Disney dolls had a reputation for being unappealing and I think a lot of collectors didn't realize they stepped up their game so much. Once they were discovered, they were super hard to get. I started collecting them in 2014, thankfully. I got so many I love, but they'd sell out in minutes at 3:00 am EST. Rough days. LOL

Oh my gosh~...you had Mimic as a child and even have a photo of you holding her😭 sooo sweeet 🥺 but that's really unfortunate for you that especially she is one of the most sought after and expensive ponies 😬 I think several reasons come together with Mimic being so expensive. The Twinkle Eyed ponies are a lot of peoples favorites sets and especially Mimic has a really special vibrant color scheme that makes her really beautiful and stand out in the line. But also, she is from the 2nd set of Twinkle Eyed Ponies which was exclusive to the US. So the rest of the world did not get those ponies like Bright Eyes, Quackers or Mimic.(We got Tic Tac Toe included in the EU Twinkle Eyed pony set so she is not that rare or expensive for that reason) So that means there is way less of Mimic in the world since she was just produced for the US market and you have to compete with us Europeans for example for the few Mimics on ebay etc.😣 and I heard from others that Mimic also had a very low production run compared to the other ponies in her set. But not sure how they could know that🤷🏼‍♀️ I keep my fingers crossed that one day you will walk into a thrift store and there is a bag of G1 ponies waiting for you and in there is Mimic. You deserve it since she was your childhood pony💗 But very interesting overall to hear about your grail dolls. I 100% understand that your list got so long. I also have a hard time defining my grail toys. There is just so many that I want 😭

Oh yes. . the funny thing about grail dolls is that the list never ends ... Ohhh I sort of forgot about Cerise Wolf... She is amazing!!! One of your grail dolls just arrived here this week for my daughter, the Catty Noir in the pink dress!! Found it for a great price loose on Vinted and we washed her hair today!!! 🖤🖤

Sometimes you can find the Neptune one for about $150 Canadian dollars on eBay on auctions, look for the plastic cover on her hair bun and make sure her dress is GREEN. Then never let her see sunlight or her dress will turn maroon in colour- she has real velvet for her dress and velvet has never worked out well in sunlight. Still- a very beautiful doll to own. She has very striking green eyes and red lips, and her dress has a very intricate beading sewn into a very delicate sheer fabric- it’s a sight to see that’s for sure! This is all from memory she is in her box in the closet, and I am very proud to own her, and it’s also neat she has a Greek mythology tie💗

I am really wanting big gold label Greek goddess Barbie’s but they are sooo expensive. I adore Greek mythology, and a lot of my collection is made up of historical people or characters from books or movies, so those are definitely at the top of my list. They made medusa, Athena, and Aphrodite, and I really want them.

I've been in the bjd collector community for years and having a "grail doll" is a big thing in that community. I already have one of my grail bjd dolls which is a Doll In Mind Laia head which I made a boy doll on a DollZone body. My other grail bjd is a total pipe dream because I'm sure I will never find one: a NotDoll Labs Aletheia which is a vampire doll. I just love her face so much with her cute little lips and teeth. She is the perfect vampire doll to me and I have always loved vampires. I also have a Smart Doll (Oceana in Tea) and would like to collect more. My grail Smart Dolls are Fortitude in Cinnamon and Ruby in Cocoa.

The Alices are beautiful I can absolutely see why they’re at such a high positions in your list! If I’d had the foresight to keep all the Ginger spices that people kept buying me as a ‘joke’ present I’d happily have gifted them. Alas my young self was just hugely annoyed at my ever growing collection of small ginger women and away they went.

My goodness I remember the glitter hair barbies my sister and I got them as kids at Christmas here in Australia (think I wasn’t too fond of it as my sisters were though because the glitter was too messy for my taste not sure what my sisters did with theirs but they had lots of fun with barbie dolls ) Nice bit of nostalgia there Also I would love to get a katty Noir monster high doll but haven’t seen her down under Australia 🇦🇺 (plus I’m afraid I came into monster high dolls too late to get one)

Just thought you should know that there is a Briar doll on Mercari for $50. She isn't new and I don't know if she comes with everything, but I saw her just today because I remember those dolls, but never owned any. Just thought that I would give you a heads up if you are still looking for her even though this video is older already. :)

For me, I have one ultimate grail doll, and three dolls that I really want. Ultimate Grail Doll: Bratz Shrek Yasmin. Want Dolls: Bratz Ooh La La Dana, Snowkissed Jade and 20 Yearz Yasmin. Shrek Yasmin is my ultimate grail because it’s a combination of my two favourite things, (Bratz and Shrek) I want the other three because, they will complete lines for me.

Mimic is very expensive on ebay.

Why do some Barbies cost so much? Neptune Fantasy came out in 1992 and is still expensive.

It just depends on supply and demand. Usually, if there is less of a particular doll available, or they are hard to find then the sellers will charge more because they have a monopoly on the availability of the doll... But even if a doll is easy to find, that doesn't always make it less expensive. The sellers are going to charge what people are willing to pay in most cases. Most sellers on eBay will look at how much other items that are similar have sold for already, and sometimes that drives the prices up
