    @@pseudocoder78 Fail. You ascribe Matt's reaction to a mental failure due to his inability to accept new technology. In reality, it is because his experience in rescuing dozens of hybrid AWD vehicles has taught him that hybrid and EV technology is a massive failure when it comes to real world situations that involve going beyond the gravel drive-thru of the espresso hut on the way to work. Ironically, it is your brain that breaks when faced with the reality of daily life beyond the suburbs.

    Jeffe, be careful drawing your winch line into the fairlead. At 13:30 it looked like you came close to loosing a finger. Hold it on the outside of the loop. Not through it. Not even a little. Also, it might be good to put a mark on the line so it is easy to tell when to cut the winch power.

    For the birds is an idiom describing something as useless, meaningless, or only believed by the gullible. It is often used with the modifier strictly. The phrase was coined in the US military during World War II. The original phrase included a swear word, talking about birds pecking at horse manure for seeds.

    The fun begins as you tap on the gas pedal to straighten up. Each time you straighten up your speed increases. This starts out very slowly but gradually as you keep literally sliding your car straight enough and the steep hill helps keep your speed up it will suddenly become uncomfortable. Breaking is useless or dangerous so my technique is gripping the wheel super tight and sweating. Now you’re going quick and the switchbacks are coming. You might top out at 15 mph but with air for 900 feet to the left and a truck swallowing ditch on the right you might as well be attempting mock one. We were in Colorado and Canadian music stations could be received clearly at over 11000 feet near Silverton. Pucker factor nine! Sorry that went long. Love your work guys. I’m also not a big fan of muddy roads.

    Potter's wheel mud. The first time I hit a patch of it was on the Wittenoom road in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. I was cruising along sweetly enough on flinty wet ground then things turned slippy. It happened quickly and amazingly. Luckily I did not get hung up on the windrow along the edge of the dirt road and managed to drive out after spending ages trying to get lined up with the road again in the direction I wanted to travel.

The second question is big tractors, fill their tires up with fluid to give them more weight and traction. Do you think that would help any the more vera or your other vehicles?

  • @milesbartlett

    @milesbartlett

    6 ай бұрын

    This works on tractors because they operate at slow speeds (do not exceed 30mph), using this at higher speeds makes changes in direction (turning/lane changes) extremely dangerous because of the rotational mass in the wheels.

  • @rollinrat4850

    @rollinrat4850

    Yup, rock crawlers do it sometimes as well to add weight down low, for a lower CG. At higher wheel speeds (that's what you often need in mud) the water would not stay down low and make the tires harder to spin.

    If your up a nasty slipper muddy road and it’s going to be below freezing at night all you need to do is wait for the mud to freeze up and drive right out. Can’t count how many times out hunting that you go down a frozen road in the morning and can’t get out until late that night after it freezes up again. Will also keep your truck clean.

    Do I have tinted glasses on, but I remember Lizzie doing things, like putting the hubs in, instead of just sitting there like Catlin.

    What kind of mud is that? It's New Jersey mud, we have it trucked in just for these rescues. Well earned Victory Pie Matt!!

    I was up on Smith Mesa that weekend. Easy trail, fortunately. Southern Utah mud is greasy!

    As a Brit I would say offroading in the mud is the only true offloading. Scrabbling over rocks is just a difficult road

    Lol this was nuts. I'll say the mud they get in Utah is extremely greasy stuff! Holy lol. That stuff is no joke. Just straight grease man! The Jeep got more traction on the ice and snow after the tires were covered in mud than on that grease road lol.
