To anyone curious (and just because i like rambling about my ocs lmao) here's some context: The girl representing Odysseus here is my pc Héloïse, and the guy representing Athena is named Marquis. Héloïse grew up in an orphanage but never really felt at home there aside from when she was with her best and only friend. So after she got into a fight with one of the headmasters of the orphanage over learning magic she ran away to do just that (learn magic that is). But she needed money to do so, so she joined a thieves' guild called The Den, led by Marquis. Marquis and his bf/lover/husband im not sure point is they're gay became like father figures to Héloïse and the three of them lived happily doing crimes :D until one particularly big crime came along where Héloïse and Philip found themselves in a predicament and that's what's my "i am damaged" animatic is about (shameless plug lmao) and that's why Marquis is not so fond of Héloïse anymore TL;DR: Short kid almost killed her dad and her other dad is mad at her The song doesn't fit that well into the context ik but I thought it would be fun to make an animatic and i have zero control over hyperfocusing

tbh, I think it still fits pretty well (assuming some stuff about the OCs, which of course can be wrong. I'm writing this based only on the lyrics of the song and the information you provided in this comment. Let me know if it is!) It could fit because it could be seen potentially as Marquis getting angry that his partner almost died, and seeing it as Héloïse's fault. Thus, he kicks her out (while Philip is still recovering/can't interfere maybe? intentional or not?) using the "This way you can't cross the line" as a way to say that they can't be put in more danger by her mistakes, and the "this way you won't waste my time" as a way to try and depersonalize the action, by treating her as a mentee/employee who's failed him so he's kicking them out. Héloïse of course responds with the "that's just like you, selfish and prideful and vain" line, a jab at Marquis' role as a thieves guild leader: a stereotypically selfish, prideful and often vain role. Sort of turning his employee depersonalization back around on him (which could also explains why he looks so hurt at that line: not only is he being insulted by someone he views/ed as family, but they turned his attempt at depersonalizing it into a weapon to make it *more* personal). The rest of the song is them arguing just like the original song goes: a person of power rationalizing their decision to cut off the other person, and that person trying to come to terms with it, while also trying to do as much damage to the offending person's ego/decision as they can on the way out. For a bit of my own subtext (because I'm a hopeful romantic sucker during stories like this) I'm personally hoping that Marquis isn't serious about this, and that the entire situation is just a giant lash-out during a stressful time, and will regret and try to undo the kick-out when he calms down (and/or gets yelled at by Philip). The reason I think this subtext is here is because of the "you'll keep yours and I'll keep mine" line while gesturing at the necklaces. I presume they're some sort of gift/emblem of them being a family (either as a guild or just between the three of them) and by allowing her to keep hers, he's subtly (perhaps subconsciously) saying that she's still a member of the family, even if she's now estranged. And of course, all of this could totally be wrong and I'm pulling it out my ass ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I just really like character analysis and got excited upon seeing lore for some amazing characters! I hope you don't mind my interjection here!

The tall dude could not handle being the one rejected. He looked so unsettled during the second verse.

This song works SOOOOO well for D&D characters. I like to make playlists for all of my characters and this song immediately had to go into one for my Tiefling rogue assassin. He was in an assassin’s guild where he fell in love with a cryomancer. While they were on an assignment together, they figured out their target was a group of children. And though the rogue refused to go through with it, the cryomancer didn’t hesitate to start cutting them down. To save as many as he could, he was forced to kill her during an argument that feels a lot like this song and made it resonate with me the first time I heard it.

This was nicely done! Really good movement, the scenes flowed well and the angles for some shots only felt rigid in a couple of places. All in all a really nice video to watch! My favorite moment is when you see the two characters side by side (seeing the contrast in size and design) and when the character representing Athena in this song got in close and nearly drew his weapon. Well done!

Nice! Makes me wonder if this song will ever fit one of my dnd characters. I can think of one direction it will suit but it probably won’t come up, namely between my astral elf and his relationship with Corellon. He lost faith after losing his entire family due to corruption in the royal family and their factions and became a refugee. Most recently he also lost his new hometown he has been protecting for the last 50 years. As for why it probably won’t come up, I find I want to invest more in his ranger class mechanically and the campaign will wrap up before we reach level 20. If we could go all the way to 20 I would dip into light cleric to show his renewed faith. As for the other side, this same character is actually a mentor to a good half of the party, some having known him since they were a child. He is something of a strict teacher but so far this kind of scene hasn’t come up. He has just taken on a new student though, an npc, and by taking responsibility for her, saved her from being punished for a crime somewhat unjustly (corruption is involved and he didn’t want her to be further victimized but she has committed crimes, yes, but the corrupt people would have scapegoated her instead of take responsibility). I suspect such a storyline might come up in that direction since the party is pretty self sufficient and adults so my astral elf is more hands off with them. Same can’t be said of this npc who is a teenager. Should be interesting. (Apologies for the length)

@@gi_to_the_gii oh and it just got better! Lol he just found out some information that is making him wish to flee and will put him at odds with our Paladin. Which is really juicy intrigue wise because the two actually get along really well and enjoy each other’s company. All that just happened is definitely going to put them at odds though, soon enough. I’m just so excited as we just got out of a heavy intrigue session. Lots of miscommunication and lack of communication and secrets and just soo much intrigue.

Aaaah thank you!! I've been drawing for like 8ish years so my number one tip is to just practice but I know that can be a little useless to hear the way I learned was just copying artstyles I liked and then slowly I developed my own and ye I've been practicing ever since and I still got a long long way to go so it feels a little weird to be giving advice but yeah that's that!!

It's always been hard for me to draw smooth movements. And here you have pretty much lots of them. Well-done! Do you use music from your playlists? Or something suitable/popular?

I've just basically been brainrotting over Epic the musical and I found that this song fit their dynamic pretty well!! I'd say it's kind of a mix of the two like yes it is 100% on my playlists and also it's pretty popular and suits my characters too

Try putting goat legs on a human, its impossible... That oc now spends his days in the depths of my bin, not seeing light in years.

They are both half-elf rogues!! The shorter one is my pc her name is Héloïse and she's an arcane trickster, the taller one is named Marquis and he's the leader of a thieves guild. Héloïse was part of this guild and they had a father-daughter relationship kind of like Nimona and Ballister from Nimona if you've seen it!! But after an,,,,, incident, she got kicked out that's what this animatic is about c:
