Miss Trudy,one day at a time.When a woman loses her mum at a tender age,its not easy reffering to another persons mum as "MUM".You get used to adressing other peoples mums as so and so,s mum.Only girls who have lost their mothers at a tender age like Miss Trudy understand this predicament.Little sister,pole pole tuu and you will finally call her "Mum" although you can try "Aunty Maggie" like everyone else.The best thing is that you were brought up well and very respectful to your in-laws.

I found this to be very awkward act to let their parents to meet in this manner. I noted a luck of wisdom and maturity to both Wode Maya and Trudy.

I dont think we as Africans do surprises very well perhaps for the younger generation but not so much for the older generation because the older generation usually have a traditional and prescribed protocol that they are accustomed to when meeting the inlaws. I think Trudy could have maintained the surprise but help prepare her father by telling him she had a surprise for him and that he should eat and dress by a certain time or offer him some other explanation but at least instruct him to eat and dress before she arrive by the time she got there. Surprises can go too far and lead to embarrassment when in certain context the cultural norms are not considered.

Agreed. It would have been nice to give Dad an opportunity to properly prepare, from dressing up, to a welcome meal, a few close relatives, etc. Meeting of senior in-laws should not be on surprise basis, unless avoidable. Nonetheless, it is great that the in-laws have met in person.

I understand where Trudy is coming from, I lost my mom when I was 6 and trust me calling anyone else mom has been the most difficult thing for me, I last pronounced those words when I was 6, it's not like I don't want or like to call them mom but it's just heavy on my lips😭

First of all, I am so happy that Maya was able to surprise you on your Birthday. The fact that Maya's mum got on the plane to come see you, despite that she doesn't like to fly is incredible. It shows that she really love and adore you. As, you know, having a mother in-law that loves and accepts you is such a blessing🙏🏿, especially in African cultures, where an in law can literally destroy your marriages if she doesnt like you. I'm sure Maya's mum sees you as a daughter and loves you very much. I think its only fitting that you refer to her as mum, as a sign of respect, even though, it might be tough for you to say so. In Jamaica it's done both ways. Some people like the crunch of the onions in their eggs and some prefer the onions cooked first for one of two reasons including having the onion flavour fused in the oil first and softening the crunch of the onions. For some people, it doesn't matter. They just do whichever style they're in the mood for at that moment. I'm glad to see Wode enjoying some relaxation time with his family. Perfect timing too. Some things are said to avoid confusion. If she is talking to her audience, mother in law is fine. If she is addressing her mother in law, mummy is fine. Mum should be exclusively for her birth mum, especially in the presence of her father. Some things can be personal.

This was so beautiful. I wondered when and where this would happen…finally 😉 I ❤️ Ghanaian style eggs but I had them with tomato in them as well as onions.
