Was done a few months ago yes, a lot of time went into getting multiplayer to work OK. You can now build cars n everything with others :)

u can find multiplayer in the first menu & u have to use one of ur savegame file if u gonna host

No tips today...other than disabling traffic for multiplayer is a good idea. The gas can being under the car in your view is because the dev can't sync items in vehicles, sadly. If you put something in car then it will stay in car in your view, for others it will be under car sadly. Location will sync once you pick it up again
