My GAP / C&O Bikepacking Adventure!
Комедия
When I started my weight loss journey I set a goal to do something big. I got into biking and picked the GAP / C&O ride as my goal. 8 months of training and a ton of weight lost: I achieved my goal!!
I lost roughly 230 pounds to go ride this trail. I was so nervous when I first started my nerves quickly melted away and we rode an amazing ride.

I heard Belt Drive and Dynamo Hub is top tier... 🤣. It was a great ride. Glad to get to ride with you!!
Congrats on your accomplishments! Just finished the C&O this week. Love it! Why doesn't anyone mention the rocks from Great Falls to DC? And that hanging your food is necessary if you are camping?

I was so surprised by the rocks! And we didn’t hang our snacks but I guess we also didn’t have real food. I heard raccoons are a problem but we never saw anything.
It was 3 years ago end of June into July I rode it solo in 5 days. I loved it all and miss it. The GAP was enjoyable but my home is the C&O. I live just 8 minutes from the Lock 29 access (between markers 51 and 50) so I slept at home the last two nights. In fact...the lockhouse you showed when talking about how you can rent them overnight....was...in fact...Lock 29!! :) It's a lot of fun to hear your perception of the different sites along the way given your unfamiliarity. For awhile at the beginning of the C&O I rode with a few great guys from Long Island. Their perceptions having never seen the old locks and the towpath I was familiar with was a blast. We separated after Little Orleans when they took the Western MD rail trail and I stayed on the C&O. Overall, great vid and commentary.

@@bradleyhorton4949 I’m jealous that you’re so close to this total gem. I live at the terminus of the Erie Canal that runs from Tuscarawas county up to Cleveland. I rode the whole thing in one day, roughly 100 miles. No lock houses (well, one little one near canal Fulton) but similar views. I will forever cherish this trip, it was a total blast. Will you ever ride the whole thing again? And thanks for the compliment.
C&O mp 107.2 (Two Locks) has an access dirt road to Dam 5 Rd that bypasses the stairs detour...but road portion is a bit narrow and has a couple hills. I'll bypass the stairs each time I'm thru there. Mp 106.8 to 106.0 towpath is closed until Fall 2025.
Wonderful video and narration! Bring your group to the Ohio to Erie Trail next!

I plan on doing that soon!! I live in eastern Ohio and ride bits and pieces of the OTET often, I want to try and do the whole thing in a single trip here soon. Make it a 4 or 5 day adventure.
