MY FUHRER - Grunbaum is summoned by Goebbels

Фильм және анимация

Watch the full film now!: vimeo.com/ondemand/myfuhrer
In writer-director Dani Levy's "My Fuhrer," the Reich’s propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels (Sylvester Groth, "Inglourious Basterds"), is seeing the grim writing on the country’s pre-Berlin wall of late 1944: Germany is losing the war, and a weary Hitler is losing steam and fire. Goebbels thinks he has the answer. Hitler, almost as defeated as his country, must get his mojo back and deliver to the German people an all-important morale-boosting speech that will recharge the nation.
The one who can jazz Hitler back into charismatic action is Jewish professor Adolf Grunbaum (the late Ulrich Muhe, award-winning star of the foreign-language Oscar winner “The Lives of Others”), a former drama coach and prewar top theater personality who has been detained but is now sprung by Goebbels from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Grunbaum, of course, accepts the job to retool Hitler but on the condition that his wife, Elsa, and the little Grunbaums be allowed to come along. Thus, the family is given livable but grim quarters in the notorious Chancellery. The once-renowned titan of German theater has only a few days to work his magic. Employing a combination of ego-boosting exercises and psychotherapy, Grunbaum tutors his ward as the Nazi bigwigs observe via a two-way mirror. A mutual respect emerges between the professor and the Nazi leader, even to the point of Hitler commanding Goebbels to bring the professor back after he has lost favor with the propaganda minister. The big day of Hitler’s speech arrives and so does a terrible circumstance that tests Grunbaum’s talents as never before (from The Hollywood Reporter).
"A pointed satire on Hitler and the Nazi elite...A biting look at the Third Reich." - Jewish Journal
"Laughs, good performances and and lots of fun for history buffs!" - Hollywood Reporter
"Preposterously successful! Miraculously straddles the matzo-thin border between daring and tasteless." - Slant Magazine
"A stellar cast and a neat storyline with a cheeky twist." - Variety

It sounds like "My Führer" successfully combines dark humor and satire to provide a unique perspective on a historical period filled with gravity. Many films use humor as a way to approach serious topics, offering audiences a fresh and thought-provoking way to engage with history. It's not uncommon for such films to start with a serious tone and then gradually introduce humor to make their point. Humor can be a powerful tool in storytelling, allowing us to explore complex and difficult subjects from a different angle. If you found the film entertaining and thought-provoking, it likely achieved its goal of engaging the audience in a unique way.

In the movie "My Führer - The Really Truest Truth about Adolf Hitler," there is a storyline where Grünbaum, a Jewish renowned actor, is summoned by Joseph Goebbels, the Reich Propaganda Minister [1]. Here is a summary of the relevant plot points: The setting of the film is World War II, around New Year's of 1944. Adolf Hitler is living in the New Reich Chancellery in bombed-out Berlin, while Grünbaum is imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp with his wife and children [1]. Goebbels, along with Heinrich Himmler, the Reichsführer SS, plans an assassination attempt on Hitler during a New Year's address [1]. Grünbaum is released from the concentration camp and brought to Hitler to help motivate and support him as a teacher [1]. Initially, Grünbaum considers killing Hitler but eventually develops a conflicted relationship with him. Hitler begins to trust Grünbaum and reveals personal feelings and childhood memories to him [1]. On the day of the speech, Hitler becomes hoarse and loses his voice. Grünbaum is coerced into giving the speech while Hitler ad-libs and gesticulates. Grünbaum deviates from the planned text and begins mocking Hitler before he is shot, while Hitler flees the lectern just before a bomb explodes [1].

Some Jews could be given Reich citizenship for service to the Reich. You weren’t automatically sent to a camp but you weren’t a Reichs citizen anymore. There’s an interesting book called “Hitler’s Jewish Soldiers” that gets into the actual laws and some unusual instances that are pretty interesting.

This was based on the Nürnberger laws, by 1941 it would have been ignored in favour of the blanket policies of the final solution (same as the laws concerning "mixed" Jews). Only if they had powerful friends in the party or SS could Jews get some sort of dispensation, or hide their identity.
