My Friend’s FIRST BIKEPACKING TRIP!

Спорт

In this video, Kevin takes his friend Zach Bikepacking for the first time! Zach is a cyclist but has never been bikepacking, which is backpacking on bikes! Kevin gets him geared up with bags for his bike and off they go! 3 days and 120 miles of adventure in Illinois and Missouri by bike on the Little Egypt River to River bikepacking route. Watch the video to see how Zach does!
Kevin Frias is an avid cyclist, bikepacker and content creator who lives in Minneapolis, MInnesota. Kevin spends a great deal of his time getting out on two wheels, exploring, pushing his own limits, and making it easier for others to do the same.
In his words, "My name is Kevin and I am passionate about sharing the outdoors with others! Currently, I execute that by going on adventures and sharing it on Instagram (@kevdoesinsta) and KZread (KevDoes). I want to energize people, especially people of color, to get outside and live their best life. I was born in the Bronx, NY and never knew about the life-changing force that you get from being outside so now I want to share that with everyone, and make the face of the outdoors a few shades darker."

    I did the short loop there last weekend for my 2nd bikepacking trip! I rode out of Harrisburg and camped at Jackson Falls. I did not see any place to eat outside of Harrisburg on the route I rode. There were a couple of dollar generals though which I was really happy to see! Carry food and a water filter! This is a beautiful area! So glad to see this promoting the route!

    I understand the trend is no rack. But wouldn't a rack and regular panniers be easier to pack, more stable, and, I'll bet, cheaper?

  • @artemotion3022

    @artemotion3022

    2 жыл бұрын

    It’s a bit of a trend with a bit of necessity. It depends on what type of bike you use. Some bikes don’t have eyelets for racks. There are work arounds of course. I prefer for all my bags to be in-line with the exception of the handlebar bag. Typical touring setup is generally a little more cumbersome.

  • @alethearobinson8132

    @alethearobinson8132

    2 жыл бұрын

    The main difference between bikepacking and bike touring (besides the bikes) is that in touring with panniers you are generally on open roads. In bikepacking you are generally on gravel roads with some double or singletrack riding. Panniers would get hung up on the bushes. That said, REI makes a low profile bikepacking pannier in their Link system. Ortleib makes a low profile bag that attaches to the front fork ( not on carbon forks)

  • @jazzfan7491

    @jazzfan7491

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@alethearobinson8132 Makes sense. But in riding on fire roads, shouldn't make a difference, and even on single track you usually have room. I think the issue here is style -- no rack certainly looks more like a racing bike -- though the lower center of gravity of regular old rack-and-panniers is going to make them a lot more stable.
