Man, I remember going to music shops in London and just drooling over the 707 and 727. Regardless of their influence on 80s/90s pop... They just looked gorgeous together. As a tribute to Roland I included the panels of both machines (drawn by hand mind) in a video game I worked on. They appeared as control interfaces in a Russian Typhoon class submarine. I have a couple of sample libraries, including UVIs that have the the sounds. But I'd love to have the originals side by side in the studio.

Nice!👍 I have a Diabolical TR-707. It's a sweet machine for quick glitchy sounds and sequences, plus those classic 707 sounds. The bottom LEDs on mine are little bit too bright. You can stack those banana plugs for extra random glitchy-ness.

I have both - a modded 707 with the HKA design 8 bank ROM mod, and the TR-8S - and in all honesty, I find I’m on the 707 more these days. Just feels more “fun”, and still integrates really well with things like the SE-02 and System 8. It’s likely just a nostalgia thing. It is great Roland finally gave us an editor - still hoping for easier sample loading :)

Funny, these mods and circuit bends on your 707 got you a few sounds of the 727 (sort of, steam punk like-ish). Anyway, I always loved my 727, so different from all the regular groove-boxes, drum-rhythm machines of the 80s. Severely and IMO unjustly under-rated

The last two - crash and ride - I don’t think they can be controlled as well as they’re on their own separate ROMs (they’re not on IC-34 or IC-35 like the rest of the PCM samples). It’s a limitation/feature of Harry Axten’s ROM upgrade for the 707/727 too, but he’s looking at a possible add on board for those sounds. Unsure why Roland have the last two sounds on separate ROMs, but this is Roland we’re talking about. Wonder if that could work alongside this mod and then we’d have LM-1, 808, 909, LinnDrum, DMX, 707 and 727 sounds all on one messed up 8 bank house monster… :)
