I am loving your reactions to Rage Against the Machine. I love this track. A few other suggestions. Down rodeo, wake up, take the power back, know your enemy. I also love the live version of testify live at Finsbury Park.

First and only, to be new metal would imply there was old metal when this came out. There wasn't enough out there to classify anything like that

Prophets of Rage was a side project from a few years ago that’s real good. Not as good as Rage lol it’s the guitarist bass and drummer w/ Chuck D & B Real rapping. Hence the name Prophets of Rage. Audioslave is the same band with Chris Cornell singing. But the Magic happens with Zack on the mic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Check out some Thrash metal next! Metallica is probably the most accessible (Try "Master of Puppets") but then Anthrax did a collaboration with Public Enemy that was a big deal. (For Anthrax on their own, I like "Medusa"). Other notable acts are Megadeth and Slayer. Those are "The Big Four" of Thrash - kind of the "Founding Fathers." Thrash developed in the early 80's, as response to the decadent excess of disco and the Glam rock sound from LA (Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Cru, etc). Thrash had a resurgence in the mid 00's too, so it's still a vital part of Heavy Metal (for modern thrash, I like Havok or Hatchet).

Cube did most of the lyrics writing for NWA. Certainly not the same scope as PE or RAtM, but still deserving to be included.

I hear your point, Cube certainly illuminated the plight of inner city youths. He also had such quotables as "life ain't nothin but bitches and money". Maybe that is transformational? Maybe the world needed to know that? Straight outta Compton was my favorite album for a couple of years. I'm not lying when i tell you that NWA changed my town overnight. We were 16 year olds in a small farm town... then we were hard ass gangstas the next week. Girls we had known our whole lives were suddenly bitches and hos. My best friend starting carrying a stolen pistol. NWA certainly prompted change in my town, but not for the better. Yes, we were impressionable idiots... but they glorified fighting, killing, bitch slappin, dopeman, cop killin, etc, etc... I'm gonna check that RATM file, I don't recall much of that content in People of the Sun or Wake Up or Bulls... etc, etc. "Not in the same scope as PE and RATM"... yes, I'll AGREE with that.

@8:00 'was this shot before the riots?' SUBBED dig ur appreciation of their artistic activism! This album was released 6+ MONTHS AFTER RODNEY KING BRUTALITY the song Killing in the Name Of is specificially about the L.A Riots. i lived mile from LAX & was a sophomore in HS & remember that video being the 1st time i saw REAL people inflicting REAL pain on someone, one someone & i still don't have the words but i have the RAGE. the RAGE of it being done in 'our name' the disgust at the lack of disgust. realizing that the public reaction was nowhere near enraged enough to stop it from getting worse. Ugly Evil People PLOT, exploiting all APATHY, SUBMISSIONS TO AUTHORITY & in 1992, when Rodney King was tortured, shooting people in the back for disobedience wasn't happening! cops were not openly being so bold about forced compliance or else THE 50 folks on the Board of Directors of the 6 companies that feed us food, meds, info, etc, PUT IN WORK TO MAKE IT SO WE GOT WORSE AS A SPECIES but i'd say the exponential rise in teen suicide rates have to stand as proof of our failure as the inhumanity we let be inflicted in our name ... huh maybe they linked??
