The Polyphia fans of the Discord including myself and NintendoJames (the original requester) salute you! Polyphia is just about its own genre but if you have to stick them in an existing category they're on the edge of Prog Rock and Math Rock (Math Rock is typified by its complexity and use of odd time signatures.) I first became aware of this whole genre with Jared Dines' shred compilation 3 in which Tim Henson did something I'd never heard before and as a complexity junkie I had to dive in. It really opened my mind to a whole new vista of music and I've been a Polyphia fan since then. Thanks for doing this request! Polyphia is Tim Henson and Scott LePage on guitars, bassist Clay Gober, and drummer Clay Aeschliman. The Clays are so incredibly locked in it's fitting they share the same first name. :D

I've heard polyphia described as metal, progressive rock, math rock, and trap-metal. They've got a super unique sound and a tendency to blend multiple genres into a single song. IF you're looking for more of their various genre-bent styles I can happily recommend Playing God, Neurotica, G.O.A.T. (honestly just a compositional masterpiece more than anything), and Saucy. Glad you enjoyed and and that you continue to keep an open mind!

This song came off Polyphia's latest 2022 album drop. On it, they were said to finally grab up some collabs they wanted to explore. Sophia Black on ABC, Lil West here, Steve Vai on Ego Death, even a trumpet player, etc. Polyphia already was a genre bending, polyrhytmic harmonic forerunning machine, and on this album...they really diversify it further..just as you were saying in your reaction. If you liked the parts of this song you did...I think the rest of the album will give you a LOT to chew on! Also! Check out Unprocessed, too! They collab and tour with Polyphia a lot. And Unprocessed just released a new album like THIS WEEK! One song of it has a ft. from both Polyphia guitarists you just heard. That song is: Die on the Cross of the Martyr! Enjoy!

Chimera: (in Greek mythology) a fire-breathing female monster with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail. Thematically, this makes sense for a song that blurs genre lines and they do this sorta thing pretty consistently with their music.

The clean guitar is one of Polyphia's signature Ibanez models. Tim Henson saw one in a music shop and loved it. They've been discontinued for years, he got Ibanez to re-issue it with new specs and now he has a signature model and so does their other guitarist Scotty Lepage. Also, the "metal" sounding guitars are their signature Ibanez 8 strings, which add two lower strings from what a typical 6 string have.

I think progressive is probably an even better fit since prog really isn't shy about experimenting with different styles and song structure. Interestingly enough, their drummer does largely trap style drums on quite a few of their songs. Their album The Most Hated has a pretty heavy hip hop influence. My favorite song of theirs, Icronic, is from that album (and so is Goose that you mentioned). I also suggest Neurotica and 40oz. If you want to hear another hip hop artist collab with them you can try Fuck Around and Find Out ft. Snot.

So, Polyphia is mostly instrumental music, no vocals. However, every now and then they'll have a guest vocalist. I highly suggest ABC featuring Sophia Black. Absolute banger of a song.

as a guitarist of many tastes, polyphia is quite literally everything every genre fusion u can think of pretty much, and are with out a doubt maybe the most signature sound ever if u copy this ur copying polyphia thats where they stand rn, and in a musical sense reinventing the guitar for the first time in years

BTW it's absolutely strange to see someone who just listenes to hip hop... I totally agree with the auto tune, I'm a multi instrumentalist and I have a hard time with any electronic music traditionally but getting older I've learned to appreciate almost all genres but I'm 32 and you seem like a youngsta 😂. Dude I remember kids saying rap is crap in middle school and I grew up in the new England prog, emo, hardcore scene but also went back and forth to queens NY so I had a lot of old school hip hop influences like biggie, diabolic and dead Prez. But to be honest man as a musician I find rap the most difficult music to get into because when I'm listening to music I'm looking for melody and complexity in beat and rhythm and words are at the absolute bottom of my curiosity. I'd rather the words sound creative af through melody and have no substance but I do appreciate when great lyrics are met with a catchy hook. Like anything by Coheed and Cambria, streetlight manifesto or The dear hunter. Side note : Check out immortal technique with diabolic - hidden track. If you want some fun rap. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2SCzsSzZNLdZqg.htmlsi=C5njUXOb5GvwfdYI

Hey Roger that I haven’t heard that track by them. Definitely will check it out. I’ve learned to broaden my perspective with music the older I get. Definitely comes down to not judging things right away. Some people get that with age. Others become more entrenched. I like it family. I’ll have to do some more polyphia

@@notrashtolerated samee bro I listen to everything these days and it's funny, this dude I jam with is very beat and lyric focused and our styles compliment each other so well because of that. I just find these things interesting 😊 the beauty of music is how varied and nuanced it is. And that's why I enjoyed your reaction so much that I had to comment. Getting a perspective from someone who has such a different innital musical perspective is just fascinating 😅 but yeah good song. Some of my favorite rap lyrics In it. It's so fun and old school ny
