They all compose and arrange, which is how they're able to weave a flawless tapestry that highlights all their abilities in a clean, complementary fashion without devolving into a muddy mess. I've easily listened to this song a hundred times and it just never gets old.

Gacharic Spin, they're the GOAT's for me! Love musicians who can write a fun catchy song and still make it musically interesting without descending into the dreary endless self-indulgence that can so unfortunately blight ultra-high-level musicians. Their instrumental breaks are often short and feature complex trade offs, counter-point and other fun ideas, letting them pack a huge amount into a brief interlude, without letting it become a distraction from the core of a catchy and fun song. They do all sorts of music; funk, rock, metal, jazz, latin, EDM, prog, pop, usually in various combinations as you picked up on in this song. They may be too eclectic and wild for some peoples tastes, but I love it myself! They're also famed for their incredible live performances, both for the quality of their playing and the near super-human levels of energy they expend whilst performing. I've been to their concerts before and am always exhausted afterwards for a few days. I've no idea how they keep it up for whole tours... I once saw them perform two concerts in a single day, first a 2 hour concert as their metal side-project DOLL$BOXX, then a 3 hour concert as their main band Gacharic Spin, with both shows filmed for DVD's. Anyway, thanks for the excellent reaction and analysis, your music sounds great!

Really enjoyed the reaction/breakdown. Gachapin is a really versatile and inventive band. Plus, they have the MOST hyped stage show I have ever seen. It's exhausting just to watch it. I hope you venture into the Japanese scene more often. It's been over a year since you visited BAND-MAID, and it just so happens they have a new-ish single out, 'From now on'. Pure instrumental greatness.

Great review and thanks for your insight. Actually it was the live version of this song which introduced me to Gacharic Spin and to be honest when it was over I literally thought "WTF did I just listen to?" What an amazing group of talented musicians. The solo reminded me of the short-lived jazz rock fusion period back in the 70's although I couldn't place a finger on the Latin drum influence in that one section until you mentioned it. Gacharic Spin is well known for putting a variety of genres into their songwriting blender and somehow what comes out works. It is hard to classify them as one genre other than they are Gacharic Spin. These women also put on real high energy live shows and they have become one of my favorite bands.

Gacharic Spin has taken quite a few years to find their identity. I believe with the early 2019 addition of yuri on drums and especially Angeline 1/3 as vocalist (at only age 17) to go with the core four, Gacharic Spin has finally discovered the magic sauce. As shown in the video, Angie has charisma to spare in a band full of members with charisma to spare.

Thanks, I wanted to see your take on GS. And, when you said this was your first time hearing them, I thought 'buckle up bud'. Can't remember ever seeing anyone enjoy a piece of music more than you did to such unexpectedly glorious music. I'm pretty sure that the musicianship, composition, and creativity on display had a lot to do with your smile and good mood. GS has been together since 2009, they are THE MOST energetic band I've ever seen. I see some excursions into Gacharic Spin in your future. With 13 years behind them you can watch all you want and still always have a new one if you want to do a React.

'I Wish I' is another brilliant song by them, but I think you should also consider an analysis of their song 'Gold Dash' - multiple alternating time signatures, style adjustments, and genre changes all within one great composition. I enjoyed this reaction/analysis. Nice job JW.

Welcome to the insanity of Gacharic Spin... lol. Another female band out of Japan made up of absolutely skilled musicians. They've been around for a while been through a few line up changes but seem to have settled into the current one. The only one missing is the other drummer, who was out after having given birth. The current drummer in the MV was the original drummer and is now the 2nd guitarist when the other comes back. You've now discovered one of my other favorite bassists as well, F Choppa Koga or FCK. She's amazing, has her own style of strum/slapping and even has published her style as lessons. Always has a huge smile on her face and just a joy to watch play... well all of them actually.. LOL. Enjoy the journey, its worth it.

Most of their songs are upbeat and pep you up. I always have a tough time to stay in my seat while listening to this song, it's also the song that made me take a closer look at them and I actually pre-ordered their full album a couple of days later after listening to this song multiple times per day for the first couple of weeks after I heard it. I was still not completely sold on most of their stuff in the beginning with a couple of songs as exception (they can be quite poppy on their older songs, which isn't always for me), but watching their live videos and the pure energy they push onto the crowd on stage is what won me over. They have changed up their lineups a couple of times over the years, although the main musicians mainly stayed the same. They lost their main vocalist relatively early, switched over to the drummer and keyboard player as main vocalists with dancers/performers in the front to fill up the stage (3 in total over the years). Their current lineup has the drummer from this video as guitarist (she plays a lot of different instruments), a new drummer (who was on maternity leave for this album and video) and the pink haired vocalist/performer in front. A couple of recommendations as far as Live songs go: - An instrumental (ニコリン星の通勤ラッシュ -> Commuting rush of planet Nicorin): kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIx1pJpsopPSkrQ.html (shows of their skills on their instruments) - Tamashii: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKhrj6mAgsSZnsY.html (they have also played this with toy instruments kzread.info/dash/bejne/dq6j2rCQftGsoNo.html) - Ganbanba Dancer (ガンバンバダンサー): kzread.info/dash/bejne/lp-Gutt6oNHalbg.html (2016 version with 2 dancers one of them swapped with the keyboard player since she is the main vocalist on this track) - Hunting Summer (ハンティングサマー): kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIuE27qTqsi8Y7w.html (2017 version, with the same 2 dancers) - Redline: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6Zqu8eMkde1kcY.html (2019 version with the current lineup, the other live ones are good as well) - Sekira Liar (赤裸ライアー): kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYGmyLOkfra7c6Q.html (2017 version, but they also have a 2022 version fresh off of their channel) There are a couple of others (Gold Dash, Winner, More Power, ...) that are great, but I obviously can't keep posting all their amazing stuff. They usually also have different versions of each which are great in their own right because of the changes in lineup over time. The funny thing is that I am mainly recommending songs off of their older catalogue (some with a lot of vocal effects, which I generally am not a huge fan of). I didn't really like a lot of those at first, but the energy and stage presence on a lot of these is what makes me like those videos so much.

GACHAPIN have been in the game for some 14 years. As the lineup has morphed and changed, blue-haired HANA (Dr., Vo., Gu.), F-CHOPPER KOGA (Ba.), and TOMOZO (Gu.), have been constants. Their music has evolved considerably to reach the point you heard here. But, most of all, GACHAPIN are a performing band. Follow this up with the live version. For the next song, do “I wish I,” the opening track of the same album, with a totally different sound. Watch the MV first, then the the live, which includes an excellent translation of the lyrics.

I've seen these girls live twice, and they are performers through and through -- not to mention extremely down to earth and fun people. I've been a fan of their music for over a decade and they never cease to amaze me with what they can produce. They do so much to compliment each others play style not to mention they also try out many different types of arrangements. They all take have taken lead vocals of at least one song, and Hana (drummer in this video) can play like 10+ instruments. Truly masters of their craft.

When I first came across this song in 2021, it blew me away. What an introduction, not just to this band but to the Japanese music scene, especially metal. Gacharic Spin is an extraordinary band. Their live performances have to be seen to be believed. Through Gacharic Spin I got introduced to Doll$Boxx, made up of the four core musicians from GS with lead singer Fuki added, and then to Fuki's band Unlucky Morpheus -- undoubtedly one of the best metal bands in the world. Again, an outstanding live band, even better sounding than their studio albums. Well worth checking them out.

Great job breaking it down. Love these ladies, sincere yet hilarious, talented whilst always entertaining, supremely diverse yet always touching & pop. You mentioned Rush, so I'll suggest you check out title track from Gold Dash (inspirational album commisioned for the Paralympics), for me it's like if Rush took an angry teen rapper to a rave. Might seem different from the it's followup Mindset, but you'll then see, it's the same, except with the RHCP / funk dialed way back, and plenty of 3s, 7s, even some 5s thrown in (iirc) to mess up the funky 4/4s, alternate major chords, per their norm form, leads you around... Plenty of English sprinked in btw, "Never losing to myself ... Go my way... Number One", and 'rapped': "i'm in a foul mood, shut up i don't give a damn... that's how we roll, don't talk to me" kzread.info/dash/bejne/nmycp5mRnLXRhaQ.html

I love everything about this piece. The intro that leads into the driving rhythmic force, this is same rhythmic theme from Kink’s You Really Got Me. All the interplay. I was reminded of Chic Corea’s first fusion recordings from Leprechaun to Spain. The keyboard player i think very influenced by use of synthesizer and piano interplay. Even though I don’t speak or read Japanese, it was easy to know the song about teenage alienation and rebellion. I think the music really hammers this home. It’s finally good to see reaction video that can breakdown and do a really well done musical analysis. As retired former jazz musician who ended my career as timpanist for philharmonic, I appreciate what you’re doing. Great job.

A bit more history for the band; they have gone through quite a few changes even whilst most of the core members have stayed: I have tried to summarize the band line up chronologically. I've not included every detail. I have now updated some things based on some helpful comments on previous postings After leaving her old band and considering leaving music altogether, Koga instead started the band with former classmate Hana. F Chopper Koga: Bass, band leader (2009-present) Hana: Drums, Vocals (2009-present) Tomo-Zo: Guitar, Vocals (2009-present) Armmy: Vocals (2009-2012, died October 15, 2015) Armmy left in 2012 for health reasons, and later passed away in 2015. Oreo Reona was a touring support musician who stepped up to full-time after Armmy left. Vocals were split mainly between Hana and Oreo. Tomo-zo also has lead vocals on some songs, normally upbeat and poppy songs. Oreo Reona: Keyboards, Vocals (2012-present) From 2013 the band employed a couple of performers to improve the stage show Mainly dancing, they also took on some other duties, including main vocal on at least one song Arisa: Performer, vocals (2013-2015) Mai: Performer, vocals, some percussion and guitar (2013-2018) Nenne: Performer, vocals, some keyboard (2015-2017) After the last performer left, Hana switched to guitar to better front the band, The band hired Yuri on drums and Angelina (pink hair) as performer (and gradually becoming more lead vocal for some tracks) Yuri: Drums (2019-present) Angelina: Performer, vocals (2019-present) Hana (the original drummer) is still on drums in this video. Their new drummer Yuri was away maternity at the time but is now back and can be seen in newer live videos. In older videos when Hana was the full time drummer she had bright blue hair, now on guitar she goes natural but put a blue streak in to be behind the drums in the video.

Awesome reaction as usual. This is such a good song, I love it. I heard that you'd checked out Galneryus as well. Hoping to see that soon. And you shoud revisit Lovebites as well.

I love Polyphia, dude. I seen them live several years ago and they are the real deal. There's something special I've been working on for the last couple of months that is close to completion regarding one of those songs you mentioned so make sure you're subscribed to catch it when I publish! 😁

everytime i see musicians smashing instruments I become instantly uninterested on their music. then i kept listening and sounds like a ton of anime openings, so yeah, completely not interested. I already have motoi sakuraba for this type of rocky prog funky music. Nice video as usual anyway.
