I'm lucky than because I've had two successful relationships off Grindr..didn't work long term now I'm single but each relationship got longer and longer... I switched my approach though

Oh man, I get it. I made some crazy decisions in my late teens as a Baby Gay. Early 20's were cringey at times too but hey we're young and don't know any better at that time. Thank you for sharing your story!

For the fact you knew you were not up for "friends with benefits" at that age shows you knew your worth.

We were all naive at one point and now with the advances in the internet it's good to let younger singles know what's up! This actually reminded me of the concept of "Queer Time Theory" which states that queer people do not experience time in a linear way as straight people do. In other words, the life events that are supposed to happen to people at a certain age do not happen to us. An example would be dating someone of the same sex as we after coming out or not being able to talk about crushes as straight people would normally do earlier in life. There's a great video called Queer by the channel Philosophy Tube that explains all this way better than me. Anyway, loved the story and your takeaways are on point. I'm sure most of us have experienced something like this and lived to tell the tale hahaha.

We've all experienced all of this. These people are sad. Being innocent and open-hearted is not dumb. The right guy will value who you are. It happened to me across 5000 miles. Now we're married. And I'm grateful every day for him. And, BTW, we met on Scruff. I wish he had a BFF like himself. I'd introduce you. But, stay positive, be yourself, don't settle, and eventually you'll meet the one. In the meantime, welcome what the universe brings you in life to grow, and enjoy living in the moment.

I didn't understand that the purpose of dating is "information gathering" (also called, "getting to know someone"). Also, that dates should be fun and not too serious. I would have enjoyed my 20s much more if I'd known this.

When I travelled to Egypt for holiday, I was a bit scared to even open Grinder, let alone using it for dating. You did both in a country where you can get a death sentence if you're caught with another guy. I don't know what to say other than the whole thing you've been put through was pretty f*ed up lol. Turkey was a different story, though - I held hands with a dude when we walked in the most crowded parts of Istanbul - something I could not even do in my own country back then. It'd be interesting the hear how cultural, religious and legal environment in Iran affects how gay men behave when they date, I mean what the safeguards are, how it distorts normal human thoughts and behaviors, do you even think about potential consequences, and so on.
