My First Solo Paragliding Flight!

Ғылым және технология

At last I have had a few moments to edit some video, so of course chose my very first flight (above 20 feet!) which was a big one off of a mountain.
I had no real fear of a wing problem on launch because:
a) I have over 100 hours with a wing over my head on the ground so know how it feels
b) Good conditions and solid desire
c) Had a great instructor watching over me
It was, obviously, an amazing and incredible experience being in full control of flight. Since then every day I jones for the feeling of being in the sky, wind in my face, and the living force of lift talking to me, taking me up.
This flight was smooth and without the bumpy thermals I would later experience, a sled ride as they say.
Thanks to everyone, all so passionately supportive, at Freedom Flight Park in BC Canada. I can't imagine life before this paragliding adventure began back in 2018!
NOTE: Eventually many of my pre-flight videos will be removed but some will be posted on the new "Sandra In The Sky" Channel.

Your joy makes me smile, feeling your excitement, what a wonderful sport well described with your emotions. Is something we all feel evertime we fly, no matter how much flying you've done. Now you're hooked, like all of us. Thank you so much!

Saw your SIV! Nice! I did one involuntarily about 10 days ago in the lee side of a mountain ridge with 40 kph coming over and was super fun with collapses (1/2) and wing 90 deg or in front suddenly. Rocket thermals too! Was just shaking off rust so was a bit much but laughed all through it any way haha. This is a sport for me for sure, nice to know ya!

This really makes me happy and joyous. It's amazing and you have so much courage wow. Great first flight stay blessed from the uk.....remember to stay away from wind rotors or is that just the power para gliders need to watch out for that? Stay blessed

Thanks! Yes we must stay away from rotor big & small, it's amazing how powerful it is. I have been in pretty strong mountain rotor (half wing collapses etc) and that sneaks up on you if you don't know the trend in the valley. You too!

@@bigsailboatproject Hiya ..Grounded and not a happy chappy , medical rubbish has knocked me for six . Really wanted to keep up with this sport as i love that feeling once airbourne ( it special you are now experiancing it so great stuff girl ) but other than this crazy time were all going through now , its a major setback , still got all the gear , still ground handling and keeping sklills alive ,and electric beast is waiting for trike to be built LOL but dodgy lungs sap all my eanergy :-( Flying is easy ,, its the walk back if i land out thats the Killer ,, not giving up easy though. Greta to hear from you , truly hope all is well with you over that side of the pond :-)

I am wondering if you went tandem flying as part of the training? I'm hoping to start training as a PG pilot this autumn and have to say that I'm looking forward to it, but am a little worried about the heights. I can only imagine the commitment required to make that first flight over the trees from that drop. What's your story?

  • @sandrainthesky1011

    @sandrainthesky1011

    3 жыл бұрын

(From new page SandraInTheSky) I went on a tandem a year earlier, then with Dave my instructor here, which was a longer flight. It's always part of the training. Don't worry about height, it's not like standing on a ladder at all, it more like VR really! You have to trust that the wing will hold you up and it's quite rigid once in flight. You don't jump off but simply run down the hill and you will be lifted. You will take mini-flights on a bunny hill first, perhaps only a few feet off the ground. This appears that you are moving very fast because you are so close to the ground, but once way up in the sky it feels motionless, like sitting on a deck chair (a comfortable one!) Go on a tandem first if you have any doubts, it's amazing, safe, and fun!
