My first MMA training

A little tour around Prague. Visiting a few interesting places. Asking my audience about the difference between Europe and America. Trying out martial arts for the first time

My dad was in the US Army. We lived in Italy for a few years as a child. All food is so much better in Europe. Food in Europe tastes homemade and always fresh. I feel like a lot of places in the US get away with serving frozen or canned foods.

If you want to learn rolling and falling I suggest you go train with a Judo, Hapkido, or Aikido school. The generic rolling/somersault technique he was teaching is maybe OK for gymnastics or something, but it is not good martial technique. You don't roll down the center of your back because your vertebra and spinal chord is there. You may get away with it on a mat but if you try it on a hard floor or concrete you are likely to be injured. Even a forward somersault should always roll the impact force to the left or right of your vertebra, not directly on it (roll over one shoulder or the other). This is even more important if you are being thrown, because you may not be able to roll out of it if your opponent holds onto you. When stopping the roll you want your lower arm to slap the ground at the same time or a microsecond before your body hits because you want to disperse the impact over as big a surface area as possible to reduce the pressure on your body and internal organs. Make sure you keep the slapping arm straight; if you bend it you may break your elbow. Regarding your question on American bread, yes, the cheap supermarket bread is different from good French or Italian bread, but you can find those kind of good breads in bakery shops.

Yes! I was beginning to think I was the only one seeing this odd training for martial art rolls and break-falls. This was making me cringe, especially because this was being taught to a newcomer. Whether I trained judo, jujitsu, or aikido, we were always taught forwards, or backwards, to lead with right or left, and never down the centerline. Thank you.

I’ve only been to London, Paris and Scotland but I would say yes, they pastries are better in Europe on average. The US pastries, for the most part, are made in higher quantities with poor ingredients but there are smaller cafes here that make good pastries.
