Great video Lee! Just started on my machining journey and found your channel really useful. Subscribed and looking forward to more content. The face mill you bought, are you able to provide a link to where you got it? Many thanks

Hi. Glad I could help a bit. I got my Facemill from arceurotrade in the uk. www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Cutting-Tools/Indexable-Carbide-Shell-Mills

others have commented on the milling safety and bits, but on the blacking/blueing ideally you need to clean everything down very well with acetone, and the industrial stuff, not nail varnish remover lol, and to test if you have a matched pair, put the bar with the 2 V blocks at either end, then run the DTI along the length and it will show the diference, as holding it with your finger puts too much variance into the equation, other than that, nice job :)

Thanks for the tip on measuring the v blocks. I will give that a go. I did use proper acetone to clean but have since read on the blueing bottle it recommends full immersion of parts. I will do that next time. I have just seen some other KZread videos where they just brush it on and it works immediately! I’m assuming that’s a different brand.

Nail varnish remover *is* acetone. While some may come with nail and skin conditioners, it can be found as 100% acetone...which is how I buy mine.

@@mk6595 not all nail varnish remover is acetone, and not even professional nail technicians use pure acetone as it would ruin girls hands very fast as it strips all the oil out of them, industrial acetone is totally different stuff, but if you are happy using what you are, and it's working for you great

Looks like your grove for the clamps are not on the right side of the block

Yeah someone else mentioned that. Just wasn’t really thinking about design. But on reflection I should have cut slots all the way round. Was more of a practice piece. But was really fun learning.

Nice work! Please don’t wear those gloves on any spinning machine, they grab so easy and it’s hard to machine with one hand. Why did you position the slots that way, they usually sit in line with the V?

Thanks. Yeah I should have put slots all the way round. But it’s just practicing. Didn’t put that much thought in the design. Once I’ve got a little more used to the machine I will try put more thought into the design of my next projects.
