Jason--DRY your PASTE! Press out all the flux in a paper towel, then press it out some more. It should be like playdoh, no shine at all. Try it, it will be a game changer.

Jason I've become a huge fan of your work and videos. I watched a video of you talking about ohms law and living by it. I totally agree with ya and I'm old school to about using ohms on your multi tester too. I didn't go to school for electronics and I was a school drop out but I had to learn myself too about electronics and I highly respect you for how you learned everything, you and I also learned more by doing that way than school could ever do. You have inspired me to try to do iPhone repair, I live in the upstate of s.c they aren't anyone doing that type of work here. Thank you for all you do and your time for videos. I remember the first reball I did was on an eMMC. I did it all wrong, The paste was too wet, I lifted the stencil off before applying hot air. The wet solder paste spread out into an almost uniform film as soon as I applied heat. The janky silicone mat got a bubble of hot air under it lifting everything up and out of focus. Then all of a sudden the solder paste melted, surface tension kicked in and created a perfect set of balls.

HDD Recovery Services channel uses a drier paste, and he removes the stencil before heating up the paste. Watch a few of his videos. He also uses a exacto blade to spread the paste instead of thick plastic.

with the wet paste after application try running a clean wipe over the stencil to mop up the excess flux, also helps pack the paste and stencil down a bit too. Just a suggestion that works for me, I dont worry about dry or wet paste anymore.

Dry your Paste using tissue and put it on using soft hand, use bend tweezer to press down the stencil. Good one 👍🏽

Don't heat too slow as the heat will go deeper in to the cup. Also the cup is cooling all the time. But you did good Jason. Also some people have good work with the solder balls you can buy

I prefer to use solder balls for reballing ICs in general but judging by the size of these, paste might be the only way to go or ?!

What i learned; Paste it. heat it; re-paste to fill what needs more heat it; scrape all balls flat to the stencil; and channel your inner louis and flux it up nicely heat it should be able to separate the stencil after the balls harden but before the flux cools. then you can clean it up from all the loose balls and fly forward with re-heating or whatever it may need (visually).

hi i have a question for you, you aren't using soldering flume extractor/cleaner when soldering?

13:07 fuck is right Jason 🤣 I am trying to change my first Macbook T2 chip, so very similar to these CPU's AFAIK. I have a halfway decent magnetic holder but it still does not sit flush in the centre of the chip. I have tried dry paste, wet paste but it's a disaster either way. Trying this shit yourself gives me massive respect for guys who do this with ease, that's for sure.

Yikes, that T2 is significantly large! It would be a challenge to re-ball for sure. I'm doing it regularly now on phones and it still makes me sweat! I am scared to go back and watch what awful things I did to the poor boards in these "my first cpu" videos.... lol I will post new stuff soon.

badboybarber1 hard to say. would say 1.30 minutes. I take the Stancil without a bracket. I put two layers of toilet paper under the CPU. then it does not deform the stancil. and with 2% airflow you don't have these big balls.

Jason remove the silicone on the board, it can cause a lot of trouble if you dont.

Yes, aside from doing the RAM separately I think. After this, not many phone ICs will seem intimidating.

Your current draw without the CPU will be around .06 - .08 mAh. Similar to any brain dead phone. Solid try for your first CPU reball.

Hi Jason , I ve try many solder paste and same like u , they are always too wet .. When I leave it on my plastic thing ( for reballing ) for like 1-2 days at ambiant air , it s just perfect . So what i do it s make a cycle you know with 3 thing for reball (have to find the word for that ^^) . Or "maybe" the solution it s to put in the fridge , i see somewhere the degres of conservation of solder paste is like 1-4 ° but i ve not experimente it . If someone can bring the light here ^^ (Sorry for my english )
