Brother I was born and raised in Tra Vinh Vietnam but came to America at the age of 4 because of the war!

Trả Vinh seems like an off the beaten path destination. I read back in the day, you had to take a ferry before bridges were built. I’ve always been fascinated by Trả Vinh and Kampuchea Krom.

​@@SteppeNomad585I've seen khmer kroms getting discriminated by khmer from cambodia. They were accused of being vietnamese and their accent puts them off from khmer from cambodia. There is lowkey a war between khmer krom ans khmer cambodia. And the tension will keep escalating.

@@SteppeNomad585 of course, I never met or heard that term before and I happened to live in the mekong delta in a city called Ben Tre and it's about 15 miles from Tra vinh. Khmer Krom population is now shrunk to a very small number. We only refer to them as Khmer which is the same people that we call in cambodia. A lot have been assimilated into the vietnamese population. Some got massacred by Pol Pot's khmer soldiers either in vietnam when they invaded vietnam or in cambodia because they were not trusted by Pol Pot's regime. Some are now living on tonle sap lake in cambodia because they don't legal document and cambodians thought they are vietnamese from the main ethnic kinh group, but they are khmer kroms who were actually offsprings of Khmer/Vietnamese or Khmer/Chinese. The mekong delta region was a place where chinese, vietnamese and original khmers came to live together in harmony and some are mixed with one another and became khmer kroms. Some that don't mix still have dark skin like a lot of cambodians and they're very few.

When i went to Vietnam the same business that rented the scooter stole it back and then extorted me for saying it was stolen. I rented it next door from my hotel, then i stupid park it in front also in front of there shop, so i know they just took it in and hid it claiming it was stolen

I rented in Tra Vinh and left it in Tra Vinh. The hotel got it for me 😊

Most foreigners who go to the Mekong delta tend to go to Can Tho for the floating market.

No matter what the regime is, communist or non-communist, Vietnam and its people will forever prevail as we have done so for many thousands of years. I’m a patriot with allegiance to America and Vietnam. I served in the American military fighting the enemies of the U.S and protect its interests. With all respect, I will not tolerate the destruction or demise of America nor Vietnam. As we speak, Vietnam and the U.S are increasingly in alignment with each other and are at the highest strategic level being friends. Go Vietnam & the U.S.A!

Because most westernize KZreadrs don’t make vlogs about it. Most the vlogs from other KZreadrs is about food and sight seeing. So it’s good that Patrick is vlogging about the Ethnic Cambodian Khmer Krom people in these provinces 👍

Trapeang is actually based from tra vinh. Tra vinh was never called tra vinh in the first place. The whole region of tra vinh used to be called vinh long when vietnamese settlers came and the nguyen lords ruled these areas. Tra vinh doesn't have anything to do with khmer. Royal chronicles of cambodia never mention "trapeang" whereas the veritable records of the nguyen dynasty does mention tra vinh. Khmer created the name "trapeang" from tra vinh in the 2000s.

That's not how debate works, something khmer can't understand. You've proven nothing and I stand by what I said. Trapeang is simply a word created in the 2000s by extremist khmer parties. Before that, it has never existed.

Your "ancestors" came here after the khmer rouge chased them away. Compared to the already existing vietnamese population that had already lived here for generations... including during south vietnam during fhe vietnam war. It's actually the vietnamese's ancestral homeland.

I lived in the Bentre near Travinh in the mekong delta of vietnam for 12 years and never seen a khmer krom in person, but I only saw chinese in vietnam.

Khmer like to hype themselves about khmer krom but in reality the majority of the population is vietnamese and chinese. Especially before vietnam war there were a lot more hoa in the mekong delta.

There are plenty of Khmers in Kampuchea Krom, but if you are Vietnamese of course you are less likely to meet Khmers. Are Khmers the majority in South Vietnam? Of course not! That is South Vietnam with mentioned in Vietnam - American War, recently, Ultra-nationalism Cambodian built the name "Kampuchea Krom" for making trouble with Vietnam. You have to know that French returned Mekong Delta and all Vietnam lands to Vietnam because they occupied from Vietnamese hands (Nguyen dynasty). Lands South Vietnam have belonged to Vietnam 300-400 ago by multiple exchanges with Chenla Kingdom for help them to solve crown conflicts and War with Siamese (Thai people). Vietnam first set up sovereignty there from 1623 under the Chen La king Chey Chettha II when the King married to Vietnamese Princess Nguyen Phuc Ngoc Van, he ceded east Nam Bộ ( aka Cochinchina) to his Father in law for gift of that marriage, counting to now 2023 it is 400 years fully. From 1623 to 1735, Chenla Kingdom have various internal conflicts for crowns and frequent wars with Siam Kingdom, Chenla court exchanged lands with Nguyen Courts then Nguyen Court Army helped them to solve their conflicts... to 1735, all current South Vietnam and parts of current Cambodian adjacent to Vietnam had belonged to Vietnam with many accords between Nguyen Court and Chen La Kingdom, then Vietnam's sovereignty there is undebatable, it is legal possession, all original accords signed between Vietnamese Nguyen lords and Nguyen dynasty with Chenla Kingdom are maintaining in good conditions in Hanoi and Paris...then no one could distorted history like your words. In 1845, a trilateral accord between three sides consist of Chenla Kingdom, Siam Kingdom, Nguyen Dynasty for defining clearly border between three sides was signed, according to that accords sides asserted all current South Vietnam and a part of current east Cambodia are Vietnam lands. French occupation Vietnam starting from 1858, in 1862 and 1874, after losing some wars with French, Vietnamese Nguyen dynasty had to signed two accords to cede South Vietnam with 6 provinces to French... After French took control all Indochina, they cut a part of the six province then move to Cambodia, making lost for Vietnam territories to Cambodia. After world war 2 and lost war with Viet Minh, French returned their colonial land in South Vietnam to their lackeys called "Nation of Vietnam" leading by puppet King Bao Dai, the return still made lost Vietnam territories comparing to time before 1858. Khmer people in South Vietnam is a legacy from Nguyen reigns when they allowing Khmer people in who were native in South Vietnam to be Vietnamese citizen and allowing Khmer refugees from Cambodia resettled in Vietnam land and became Vietnam citizen. There are only 1.3 million Khmer Vietnamese in South Vietnam but 38 milion Vietnamese Kinh, 1.2 milion Vietnamese Hoa, 0.5 milion Vietnamese Cham...before 1990, Khmer population in Vietnam was just under 0.3 million, with uncountable helps from Vietnam government then their population increase 4 times. You are so ridiculous, did French stupid as stealing properties from one guy and gifted to another guy? In 173x, whole South Vietnam and a part of current Cambodia were peaceful transferred to Vietnamese Dynasty called Nguyen court (under Le Dynasty) by the prior owner - Khmer Kings (Except the Khmer Kings, no Khmer people were land owner, then none of them have right to claim such silly demand, Khmer people were only slaves under the kings, slaves have no rights of country sovereignty)... French was much more intelligent than Cambodian, they did not do that Khmer people minds... They occupied land from Nguyen then they had to returned to Nguyen after lost of wars with Viet Minh... "Kampuchea Krom" was a term invented by Khmer Rouge then they paid extreme bitter result from those illusion... If French handed over their Africa to Vietnam, then African could only find French for claiming back their home land... same way, Cambodian should ask French for that, Vietnamese have no responsibility for that, we succeeded legitimately. There were no Chinese heroes came there at all, Chinese, who migrated to South Vietnam, even could not protect their home land from Manchurian's invasion... They came to lands of Đại Nam dynasty, not Cambodge's lands..., they came to Phu Xuan (Huế) and Hoi An (Quảng Nam) first and asked Nguyen's kings for residential acceptance in Đại Nam's lands... Nguyen court issued citizenship right letters to them and then order them to South Vietnam settling and developed Mekong delta for Đại Nam dynasty, Nguyen authorities provided them foods for two years, ships, seeds and breeds, tool and material for living and production...along with Chinese refugees to Mekong delta, Nguyen commanders order their troops went along the flocks for protecting them from Javanese bandits and Khmer bandits... Those Chinese don't care or ask Khmer kings anything for right of settlement there, it is simple reason that, Khmer kings had ceded, exchanged those lands to Nguyen rulers... From 1623 to 1735, all South Vietnam had been integrated legally into Đai Nam kingdom, Khmer kings had exchanged those land with Nguyen rulers then they did no longer reserving their sovereignty rights... Khmer kings also did not do anything for involving activities of Nguyens and Chinese there... Khmer kingdom also did not have any strong intervention to Nguyen and their citizens living their. Those are waste lands for Khmer kingdom, in there, they did not have map for their territorial borders, no border guard troops, no local government...there were some thousand Khmer people living there than Khmer king handed them over to Vietnamese Đại Nam kingdom accompanying with lands transferring.

Whatever the flag of Khmer Kroms, who I never saw in my life in vietnam, is. Look at your Hunsen Manet, your prime minister, the most powerful man in cambodia. He's chinese because his mother is chinese and his father, hun sen, is also part chinese, so there is only a quarter or less of cambodian in his blood. You basically have chinese Hunsen Manet running cambodia. Better worry about your country getting sold out to the chinese first before sticking your nose into other country's internal affairs.

Người Campuchia luôn muốn lấy những thứ không thuộc về mình. Một quốc gia nhỏ nhưng có giấc mơ lớn. Nhưng chắc chắn sẽ không có sự đồng ý từ các quốc gia khác kể cả việt nam vì đường biên giới và cột mốc lãnh thổ đều đã được xác lập theo luật pháp va sự đồng ý của tất cả các quốc gia khác trên thế giới .Campuchia sẽ không thể làm gì được. Đến cả những người khmer sống ở vùng đất này luôn chiếm một số lượng rất nhỏ nếu chia theo phần trăm dân số. Và hầu hết tất cả bọn họ đều cho rằng mình là người việt nam và chung sống hòa bình với người Việt Nam chính thức. Có một điều không thể phủ nhận là trình độ giáo dục của người khmer ở đây còn cao hơn tất cả các thành phố ở Campuchia bởi vì họ nhận được sự quan tâm chu đáo và bình đẳng từ chính phủ Việt Nam !

Take things that don’t belong to them?! You must not know your own history. Your people were in the Red Delta for millennia. Your people had only came down south in recent centuries. Didn’t your people take Cham’s land too?! Your people are culturally and genetically Chinese but yet show very little respect to your benefactor and ancestors. Lol 😂 Kampuchea Krom consider themselves as Vietnamese cos nationality but ethnically Khmer. Plus they have to assimilate to Vietnamese society but still kept their heritage. Same thing goes for Thailand with the Khmer Ler. You can be geopolitical all you want but us Khmers know where all our brothers & sisters are. Your division tactics won’t work because all Khmers know Khmer Ler, Khmer Kandal, and Khmer Krom 🇰🇭 It’s not always about us wanting our land back, it’s us knowing about our existence and identity as a Khmer 🩵

"Our land back" can khmer give me the ancient name of these lands of the past of the supposesly cambodian kingdoms? Vietnamese have already archived the names, taxes, and laws of the regions of south vietnam in the veritable records of the nguyen dynasty + mandarin and scholar works. The royal chronicles of cambodia compiled by the french because cambodians didn't record themselves do not mention any naming of their "kamluchea krom".

Just like how Viets are able to hold on to their unique heritage despite the fact they were colonized and assimilated to Chinese society and culture. You said cause they “can” then why were they forced to change to Vietnamese made last names like Thach, Dao, etc/ forced to wear Vietnamese attire.. It’s 2023 and they came a long way and I know that it is now Vietnam’s land but before all that there was a lot of reform & oppression, like the Diem regime, Gia Long era, Nam Tien to name a few. Some Khmer folk still call Saigon as Prey Nokor, soc Trang as Khleang (hence the name of the old Khmer temple in Vietnam) but that is in our language and if that makes you unhappy then that’s your business. Some even believe that Viets renamed those places in South Vietnam after former Khmer names, who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️ . As far as mentioning “Kampuchea Krom” which literally means Lower Cambodia, that’s how we identify each other. It is not my fault if you fail to recognize that Khmer Krom are indigenous to that area, long before the south territorial expansion. Yes they are Vietnamese nationality, they are Vietnamese of Khmer descent/origin. I’m pretty sure Vietnam went through a long history with name changes with the Chinese, I think you can quite understand where I’m coming from.
