A polyjuice potion is an illegal substance in the wizarding world. Why? Polyjuice is a potion used for taking someone else’s identity. This can also be called as identity theft which is not only illegal in the wizarding world but is also prohibited in the muggle world as well. How do you make a polyjuice potion? Well let’s take a drive into the books, shall we? This information comes out in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - chapter 12 in the potion book titled: Moste Potente Potions. As the book tell us, Polyjuice potion is a very complex potion that takes time to finish. The ingredients to it are Lacewing flies, leeches, powdered bicorn horn, knotgrass and shredded boomslang skin. It was a bubbling, treacle-thick potion when done. It enabled the drinker to take another appearance for an hour. We also found out that this potion does not work for animal transfiguration and if it is used for that reason the effects of the potion will take longer to fade than if it is used normally. Hermione Granger partially transformed into a cat and had to stay in hospital taking a dose of medicine every evening until she returned to normal. The potion was mentioned during second-year Potions, but it was not taught. Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger wanted to brew the potion to take the appearance of Draco Malfoy' friends. They thought he could tell Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe whether he was the Heir of Slytherin. They found a few of the ingredients in the student store-cupboard, but had to steal a couple in the teacher store-cupboard.
