My First Carbon Fiber Infusion AND Lightest Hinge Ever Using Kevlar - Bearhawk Rear Bulkhead

In this video I experiment with Carbon fiber infusion and a UV protective Duratec Sunshield coating. I also build a lightweight Kevlar hinged door.

Mike Patey of the bearhawk! I hope to incorporate a lot of composites in my build in a few years so I appreciate you sharing your work!

Appreciate you sharing your project with us. I especially value when you share the lessons you learned and what you would do differently next time. This is the third of your videos I’ve seen and I’ve grabbed several good tips that will improve my projects 😎🎩♠️

Just watched a couple of your videos, and your skill is impressive! One thing I would say, is universal color for a first aid medical cross is red so I'd recommend changing the blue to red just for others to know that it's there.

Really liked that transition at 15:00! Oh man, I was thinking about scratch-building a bearhawk, but I'm heavily reconsidering after seeing how much nicer the process is with a kit..

@@barnbuiltbearhawk7267 not sure if you've seen Virgil Irwins channel on his BH build? He did his floor pans in carbon fiber with honeycomb and actually saved some weight. That being said the floor pans are probably thicker than the bulkhead. Your carbon looks great though!

@@Austinmediainc I sure have seen his stuff. I'm a bug fan of it. I've been planning on something similar for a while. It is my next project on the list.

Great weight analysis. Beautiful bulkhead, but it seems aluminum would work just fine. Good 2 know.

Dang that bulkhead looks GREAT. Did you have any worries that the 3ply carbon might drum too much? I the 5 ply seemed much much more rigid. I'm still trying to decide what path I should go for my bulkhead.

If I were to do it again. I would do 3 layers and use foam core to fill the gaps between framing tubes. The reason I did 5 was to determine what I will need for the floor boards. And yes, I was worried about drumming. The foam reinforcement should take care of that.

great video, love the final Product. But why didn't you use a foamcore ? something like a 5mm pvc core with 1 or 2 layers of Carbon on each side, I think it would be way stiffer and less "drummy".
