Hi Bryan, You assessment is spot on with mine. I ordered five different hats, all five being different styles because flat cap shapes fit very differenty on each person's head. My plan was to select the style that fit my head and face profile best, keep that one hat, and return the remainder for a couple in that style, but of different colors. I was very disappointed when I began the return process of the remaining caps because the colors of the style (Scrapper) were very limited, and most were not in stock. Weeks later, those out of stock colors are still out. The Scrapper cap that I wanted to keep had a flaw. The stitch line traveling from the center top of the cap to the brim met the brim off center by 3/8 or more of an inch, causing a person's eye to go directly to the off-center stich line. I attempted to compromise between an off-center appearance by manipulating the cap, but that caused another appearance issue. Boston Scally seems to have a good product overall, including a lot of selections in several styles, but not all unfortunately. I returned all hats and was hit with a restocking fee and shipping, which for an online store is a bit out of character for 2024 when you have to try items to understand how they fit your body and personality. I should not have been hit with a restocking fee for the flawed hat, but I did not want to waste time debating. If Boston Scally reads this post - it would be very beneficial for users if your return system had the ability to report flaws with detail. The return system is very basic and will not allow for more than one return reason. i.e., color and flaw. Once Boston Scally has their act together a bit more, I may reconsider, but I will not pay $5x per cap if I cannot try it on free of charge, and I cannot exchange in a more reasonable manner without being charged a return fee. Thank you for the review and please keep creating your content.

If no one has suggested getting an Original Stormy Kromer, you ought to take a look at them. Designed and made in Ironwood, Michigan. It's near Duluth on the Upper Pennisula of Michigan where they do have winters! The original is made from wool and lined with cotton material.

So glad I've found you! You're describing my current BSC experience to a T - my head is 24 inches, so the single panel XXL fit perfectly. But I got two of the eight panel hats (Steel Rose and Blood Rose), and they were JUST too big. I returned them for a size down - sadly, they only sent a smaller size Steel Rose, no Blood Rose replacement. Top it off, it was waaay too small. I'm glad that BSC is happy to work with customers to such a large extent, and I love the designs - I just wish I didn't have to jump through so many hoops.

I just got one for Christmas. I really like it. Very comfortable and looks great on my cranium. It’s a 6 panel xxl. I take a 7 &5/8th usually. It’s a bit big. I am keeping it as it is 100% cotton, I think it will shrink. It’s a nice hat. I would never spend this much on a Cotton made in china hat myself but since it’s a nice thoughtful gift I will enjoy it. As far as other brands try Mucros Weavers. Made in Ireland made mostly wool with a quilted liner. Very warm.

Hi. I have a 7 and 5/8ths head, just a hair over 23 inches, and was wondering on the size. I want a cap that fits like a baseball cap down to my ears and they recommended a 6 panel. Think the XL will suffice or go to the XXL? Thanks.

I got 2 hats from them, the aficionado which a single panel, and the violet rose. I think they bothe are good quality hats. I will say their hats run big, cuz I measured my head and by their size chart it said I should get a medium which was kinda big, but for my next hat I got a small and it fits perfect. All in all I'm not gonna complain

KEVEN SMITH Hanna is the best. You have to try one of the Donegal Touring hats. I own several, they have a slimmer profile and look great.

I like their caps but I did also find it was hard to order and find what fit. I found that it was difficult to shop because the hats don't seem to be grouped in any kind of order. I wish they would put the measurements and hats w/ similar measurements together on the site so once one finds a hat / style that fits / works, one can just go to that group of hats and select them. Overall, cool inexpensive hats that are an alternative to baseball hats.

My first was a M, and it was a little big (I kept it, because I can put a thin beanie under it for winter!), but got 5 more in S, and they all fit snug. Favourite has to be the Punk.

I just got the Boondock. The size is perfect but it seems too shallow.

They fit good and have a slim profile, so very good hats for thinner and fitter people. Heavier people with fatter faces should go for the bigger looking flatcaps and newsboys. My other favorite flapcap company is Brixton.

Just found this video, wishing would have seen it before I ordered my 3 hats and accessories, still waiting on mine for a week now, but I had no idea they are made in China, I was lead to believe they were American made. !!! Well shit.. if they don't fit I will be returning them for my money back! Thanks

I got sucked into the facebook advertising and ordered 3. Hopefully, I don’t have the same experience. I have a large cranium, 24“ circumference. It’s nearly impossible to find a hat that fits. I ordered direct, not on Amazon. We’ll see I guess. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

I have 6 and size has been fine, I'm in the middle of M/L size. The different styles do fit a little different. Love the Lad, Workman, and Cap Codder, really like the Black Rose Peaky, like the Lad, Boondock OK, not a big fan on how it sits on my head. Had one where seam a was slightly off. For the price the QC should be 100% I'd love to see a video if you find a new company that you try out.

I’ve gotten a lot of compliments with it.

I also found them in be inconsistent with sizing. I have the aficionado which is a single panel and the Lad which is a patchwork. Both size S and the single panel is tighter than the patch work. They do naturally stretch out a bit after wearing a while. Love the patchwork Lad and pin more than the single panel. Don’t think I’m going to buy any more. I like them but two is enough. I’ve gotten more into quality fedoras and summer Panama hats.

For similar money, Sterkowski caps are hand made in Poland... only drawback is the shipping

I'm a size 7 3/8. However, I have a 7 1/2 hat and a 7 1/4 hat that all fit great. So first time ordering I bought a M/L and a S. I guess I'll find out how they fit.

Mucros and Hanna Hats are good quality. Theyre made in Ireland. Is that an issue? Im kinda meh on Boston Scally...their hats never fit the same on different caps..and the return and reordering is meh. They do have a few nice ones..but not one I would seek out. The ones i did like were the patchwork ones..as they were only ones that fit nicely.

Just got the Blood Rose and it looks great. The M/L is just a bit loose on my 7 1/4 head. Will try and shrink it in the wash or buy some sort of insert. Not sure if exchange is worth the hassle.

The exchange process is definitely a hassle. Throw a wet towel in the dryer with your hat and check it every 10 minutes. It should do the trick if you are close.

@Toastcat33 I was able to shrink it. Boiled it for 8 min (not the brim) and then dryer for 15 min. It was still damp so I wore it till dry. Much better fit now.

I've got a six-panel Repel (their rain/water resistant model) in a M/L. It fits okay, maybe a tiny bit big, but I'm sure the S would be too small in this model. I also just got one of the Boondocks (Black Rock & Rogue) in S which fits great. Both have slightly off-center seams which bugs me a little. Overall, they're nice, but not really worth the price for what they are.

Wow. That’s impressive.

Purchased two of the BSC; Didn't rate either, returned both and requested full refund. End of the day, was done out of principal, some seriously subpar manufacturing. Need to introduce QC (as appears it doesn't exist?) Paid a fair heft in original postage to receive in Australia. Ironically return costs were less. Summary, inclusive of currency change risk, I was in the red circa $25 USD. BTW. Gives me the Shit's when companies blatantly take liberties with shipping charges. (Twice BSC have bent me over, not a meal insight! 😉)

I recently purchased 2 hats from Boston Scally for Black Friday. One hat fits great and looks good but the second hat (Repel edition) looked really cheap and fit terrible (hat was sticking out too much on the sides) so I returned it and I'm waiting for a refund as of this post. I was tempted to order another hat because they have some really nice-looking hats online but they have a lot of bad reviews regarding returns and poor customer service so I'm holding off until I get my money back for the first hat. Fingers crossed.

It becomes costly for the returns because you lose the shipping cost and they charge a restocking fee.

@@beardsandbanjos No argument from me on that point. I just want to make sure Boston Scally does the right thing on my return before I give them anymore business given all the bad reviews out there. Amazon is so much easier with returns. I wish there were other options for premium flat caps.

i feel ya, so DISSAPOINTED in BSC. Inconsistant sizing china made junk, no customer service, no phone number, returns costing just as much as the cap. Tried exchanging, but not satisfied, their sizes are WAY TOO INCONSISTANT. iHAVE OTHER FITTED CAPS, BUT NEVER HAD THIS LEVEL OF FRUSTRATION!!!! I'm over it and never using them again!!!!

I’m afraid there’s a lot of us that feel the same way. Too much of a crap shoot about what you might get to spend that much money without a good exchange policy.

I have 15 of their hats. Zero problems. Zero complaints.

That's great. One of my issues seems to be that I'm right in between a small and medium and because BCS only makes M/L that they end up a little to big for me. What's some of your favorites from your collection?

They’re a little expensive for a hat made in China. The sizing and quality are not great either. There are better brands out there if you just look around.

Thanks. I actually thought the same thing after watching the video back. I would either need to shrink a medium or stretch a small. Their sizing just doesn’t jive with my head.

Just received my first one yesterday and am honestly pretty disappointed in the quality for the price, even at 20% off. I've got a couple other brands that are equal or superior in quality and cost about half as much. They do have a great selection, but I think they are just not worth the price.

I've given them 3 chances.. they're qc is terrible and their materials are subpar, I get it they're only $50 so I didn't expect much. I bought the peaky first measured my head and ordered it was a little big but manageable right away I noticed the bill was way out of alignment to the stitching.. I dealt with it my nieces wanted to get me another for Xmas so I gave them which hat a 6 panel color and same size.. Xmas came and the hat was way too big and the bill / hat alignment was terrbile finally i just recently tried one last time a brawler style this time I went a size smaller since the other two were too big well this time way too small and the alignment was the worse yet.. done with they're junk.. I hope you all have better luck

I own two. A bit pricey for what you get. Made in China. Blend of poly/wool and no lining. Aside from their contoured version of the eight panel...they make you look like you have a pin head. If you are really into hats, caps, and fedoras, this would be considered bottom line...last resort types of cap. Caps made in Ireland are the real way to go!

Total rip off company. They sent me the wrong hat and said return it and we'll send you the right one. They charged me a restocking fee. The new one came and it was wrong. Both times wrong color and wrong item description on the hat that didn't match my order. Again another restock fee if I return it. Bad company to do business with. Impossible to talk to anyone also.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I didn’t have to pay a restock fee to change sizes in the same hat. Anything else I think you have to pay. Lots of inconsistencies. I think there’s a few retail stores that are starting to carry them. That’s what we need. Try before you buy.

True, but Amazon has a way better return policy. Boston Scally charges a handling fee if you return the hat and a lot of bad reviews/complaints regarding their customer service. Amazon is the way to go although there are less hat options to choose from.

I ordered 3 of them, and they were absolute trash for the price.

To me, they are like old man flat caps but a little more form fitting to appeal to the younger crowd.

The flat cap and the newsboy also look great with some beard styles. Personally I do not like the look of the Boston Scally cap. What I dislike is the look of the cap you are wearing here. I find it quite ugly. Sort of a ducks bill shape that looks a bit silly to me. It is the way the crown is pulled over the bill that creates that look. A look a lot of folks, especially Americans it seems love the look. Personal taste is never objective. Those caps look different to many than they look to me. I ain't saying your cap is objectively ugly, just a personal taste thing. The cheaper caps on Amazon, the ones for about twenty five bucks or less, are not worth buying. The wool polyester blend in them looks crappy after a year of regular wear. That of course, does not describe the cap you bought. They are made in China which ids another reason I don't buy things from that company.

Not my style of hat. 😂 I like the flat bill fitted look.
