My First BLACK DIAMOND Trail in Big Bear - Heartbreak Ridge Trail Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#offroading #bigbear #tacoma4x4
I've been wanting to do this trail for awhile and to test out the capability of the Tacoma. We decided to hit up the heartbreak ridge trail which is a small roughly 4 miles trail in between burns canyon and broom flat road. So far this is the hardest trail I've personally done in Big Bear. You can run it from broom flat road or from burns canyon road. Running from the broom flat road is a bit easier since you're going down but that doesn't mean that there isn't some challenges. There's a few rocky area and at the end a good rock garden you have to navigate through. Overall I recommend at least 33s, skid plates and rock sliders to have protect your vehicles. Let me know if you have any question regarding this trail.

@@Michael_Tran ah makes sense, does add another 45-1hr on the trail. Well worth it, keep the trail on your list to go back and do it. That’s where the trail really earns it’s black diamond rating. Plus the views are great from it.

I have to admit, it's cool to see the trails and the footage is great... but as an owner of a JL on 35s and a JT Diesel on 37s, it's hard to watch the little guys do these obstacles. The things you guys have to go around and spot for I would be doing in reverse. It's crazy how far technology has come.

I think knowing the limit of your rig is key sometime...we like to push it but don't want to break our rigs either. With that being said...at least my rig is not build for rock crawling territories. A solid front axle with 35s will make this trail looks easy but IFS has it's limit unless you heavily modify it.

@@Michael_Tran I agree. I went from a lifted 2017 grand Cherokee on 33s to this. While it was fun doing small stuff in the GC, there was no way it was designed for a trail this hard. I’ll be doing heartbreak on the 30th with about a dozen wranglers, and I’ll be in my JT. I can’t wait to test the new skid plates, plus I have the ecodiesel which makes almost as much torque as that 392 you guys were with. Should be fun!

I feel like any solid front axle rig with at least 33s with some protection will do fine with this trail. That last section is fun for those looking to really test their rigs...those rock do not look big on camera. If you guys do it, try the Pontiac sluge off shoot...should be a bit rockier than the main trail. @@camaroboi13

@@Michael_Tran in all seriousness, jumping to 35 is a commitment. Besides the obvious positives, the negatives are quite severe if you're not prepared. Gas mileage is a big hit. All the other components have to be adjusted i.e cv boot, spindle, possible diff drop or carrier drop, possible angle shims on the leaf springs, and so many others. Your vehicle is very capable as it is a tacoma. Think about the financial adjustments with the 35s. Its not an easy leap from 33 to 35 as it was from stock 31 to 33. And yes, I did a 529 regear and ott tune.

@@khoavu452 That's what I thought too with all my research...I feel like my long bed on 35s is awesome for the photos and obviously capability but man like you said it's a lot of negatives too. 90% of the time I use it for work and it's not practical having all that weight on my truck. Maybe one day when I can get something else for work and this is only only rig for off roading and overlanding that might be the day. Gas sucks right now on 33s I can't imagine with 35s haha...thanks for the insight though. I appreciate the infos.
