My first 2 years skateboard progression, forty year old

Спорт

Hi there,
#skateboarding
#skate
#progression
#kickflip
this is my skateboard progression video during my first two years. As a kid I got not beyond cruisin around...
I was 39 years old in 2019 when I finally decided to give skateboarding a real try. My goal was to learn how to ollie up a curb. A skill I never managed as a kid. This was quite a challenge for me. But once after I got started skateboarding was so much fun to me that I continued ...
I typically skate about 3 hours a week. Filming myself helped me to realize that I nevertheless progressed steadily week by week. However, this is not "another amazing progression video" that you typically find here at youtube. This is "steady work" and nevertheless a lot of fun to me. Practice makes perfect!
I hope you enjoy watching. It is never too late to start and learn new things!!!
And if you like it I am also looking forward to your constructive feedback.
My special thanks go out to various youtube channels that helped me to learn and improve and motivated me during my journey:

#Johnny Giger
#Tactics Boardshop
#Nollie Skateboarding
#David Lehto

Thanks Bro 👊. I agree, typically you find amazing progression videos (well deserved!). But I also get frustrated watching those cause I feel that my progression is really really slow compared to that … but I guess that applied to a lot of topics on KZread … in the end it’s all about enjoying your time on the skateboard and having a good time. If so progression is inherent. Keep skating 🙏🛹🤘🏿

Haha. Same situation for me.. just hopped back on the board recently after a long time off it (haven’t skated properly for over 15 years, but I still have those moments where I look at my board and fancy having a quick go..) Feels like learning to skate all over again.. I have 2 daughters that are 5 years old that have taken an interest after having a go on my old setup. so It’s cool to see someone that’s got 2 years on me still having fun with it! Makes me want to jump on right now! Anyways. Loved the vid. Good on you for taking this up at 40 and finding that joy that I remember from skating with buddies back in the day! Best of times.

I believe it’s not about how good we skate and how nicely we land tricks crushing the skateparks (even though I would love to be capable to do). Most important for me is to have a great time and to take the freedom not to think about perception of others. Just do what feels right and follow your heart. Otherwise I would have quit within days after I started my journey. So get back on the board and see what your heart is telling you. Cruisin around with a smile on your face is well invested time! My skater friends were very judgmental and made me feel like an idiot for going skating with them when they were ollieing 5 sets and going to skateparks like adrenaline alley. It indeed had an affect on how I see the world around me (incl. spotting automatically nice locations for skating) and teached me a lot about myself. Therefore I am also really happy that I started this experience. And I can only recommend to give it a try to others. And finally, it’s good to read this from a seasoned skateboarder. Hi, thanks for your very kind feedback. This really means a lot to me! Yes, I skate on average about 3 hour/ week. in summer period and during vacation I try to give it a boost and to spend more time sakteboarding. However, especially during winter period its rather hard to find sufficient time (daylight, snow, rain, ...). I think my approch to this hobby is maybe not representative. Of course I want to have a good time on the board. But I also decided to fully commit and to try to make as much prpgress as possible (given my abilities and time I can invest). Therefore, I set myself goals and focus to achieve them. And this could also mean sometimes to repeat and train things over and over again, like my first hours on a miniramp just focusing on pumping etc. But in the end it pays of; step by step over time. On the other hand I realized that for me it works best to learn new tricks in smaller sessions of about 10 min and more repetitions during the week. For learning the kickflip this was a key to my success. And finally I learned that - even though you do not realize it immediately - every minute on the skateboard makes you a better skateboarder. So give it a time and relax. Progress is on its way. So thanks again for your warm words. These keep me also motivated to continue (at my own pace).
