Oh my goodness,....you have an awesome garden. Please could you tell us how you fertilise your plants & keep them so lush, in particular your tree ferns, how do you make them look so awesome! Thank you for sharing your garden tour with us. It is absolutely gorgeous

Thank you. Honestly I don’t do that much. I feed with chicken pellets in spring but most of it is down to the maturity of the plants. Theybtendbto look after them selves. The tree ferns are in shade and have been in 10 years so are very well rooted so they don’t need much care now.

I just wonder how do you have a soil that grow all these plants bearing in mid different plants have different soil needs they should have to grow well. its amazing what you have achieved here though. You should definitely do a whole video of the soil you have for these plants

Hi there... Love your shade garden... I just bought and planted a fatsia japonica outside in the shade, and now I realise it is not the polycarpa variety.. It can withstand to -12C in winter, but do you know if I have to bring it inside in winter? I'm in France, and our winter had a cold snap for like a week or so.. I think we are in the same zone, 8b.. Sooo wet and rainy since Oct here.. Where's the sunnnnnn??? Cheers.. Leesa in the French countryside.. southeast of the Paris region..

Hi. fatsias should be good to -12 but can take some damage. It can depend on how long the cold spell is for. How protected they are from other plants. How mature it is. Generally I would expect Fatsias to be fine in a zone 8b garden.

Sorry. The plants are. Fatsia Polycarpa Edward Needham form Fatsia Spiders Web Fatsia Variegata Rodgersia Bronze Peacock Carex Everillo Dryopteris Cristata the king. Dryopteris Wallichiana.

The border looks lovely and lush. I had a fatsia Edward Needham form. It was planted in my shady side, but it never looked good, it always got knocked back and looked sickly. I finally lost it in the bad 2022 winter. Yours looks fantastic, did you plant it out as a bigger plant?

I think they were all planted out about less then 2 foot tall at different times. In my video the evolution tour it shows how small it was 9 years ago. I would say they want a good woody stem before being planted. Free draining soil but does hold moisture. I know quite a few people have struggled with Greenfingers but I’ve found the seed grown Needham form to be a better plant. Not sure why you struggled.

Wish I had more access to different varieties of Fatsia guess I’ll have to go online. Yours are spectacular. I also started using the bright green cares this year and like the contrast it brings. That dark colored begonia is really nice looking

Cheers. Most Fatsias are easy to get over here. The Fatsia Polycarpa Needham form isn’t that common and only a few nurseries sell it in limited amounts due to it being seed grown. The Carex is really nice for brightening up a shady spot. I also like Carex Everlime which is dark green but has lime edges.

Have you ever probergated fatsia from cutting?

hi Yes I have. I have a rooted Fatsia Variegata cutting in the greenhouse at present. I will see if I Can show it in one of my videos.
