What you said about Awdry being hypocritical is very true. Furthermore, another of his complaints was that, as an engine, Henry should have no interest in nature. HOWEVER, he himself wrote a story where Thomas was interested in fishing, how is that any different?

Important to note is that as late as the fourth book into the series, Awdry still hadn't come up with idea of the Island of Sodor. As the series progressed, he wanted to make sure that they were consistent in their worldbuilding. He spent years working out the geography and railway operations. As a result, the later stories are a lot more grounded in realism than the earlier ones. When the TVS showed Thomas in all sorts of locations without explaining who was covering his branch line duties in his absence, as well as other characters like Diesel popping up where it made no sense for them to be, they essentially threw out many years of hard work Awdry had done. It's completely understandable that he'd be upset by that. Even though I enjoy bits of Series 3 myself, I will always defend Awdry against the accusation that he was being unreasonable in his criticism.

Unlucky Tug: Season 3 is truly a roller coaster ride. Season 5: Hold my beer.

It funny you say that because now The Unlucky Tug: Season 5 of The Thomas Retrospective is out, so another reaction from little owl is likely to come out

Season three is the most well-rounded out of all the other classic series it has all the aspects of Thomas that makes Such an amazing show.

Season 3 was most definitely the most memorable and classic season of Thomas I remember as a kid. Great video Little Owl. Also, what you said here 17:37 - 17:49, as an American, for some reason, Thomas and Friends being told by a British narrator sounds right to me.

I actually went to Portsmouth Harbour for a vacation at the same time this TUT Video dropped! And I agree, it’s a beautiful place! Season 3, I have to say, is my favourite season too! It’s just…perfect. As for my all time favourite episode…Trust Thomas. As controversial as that episode is, I’ve always loved it…

18:20 Absolutely! Obviously as a child in America, I did not have access to the original UK-released episodes. So when I would watch the videos of the Thomas episodes, I would always be confused by the order in which said episodes took place. Initially, when "Shining Time Station" first aired, the first half of the show's first season played the Thomas episodes in the same order in which they first aired in the UK - two Thomas episodes for every one Shining Time episode. And the plot of the STS episode would match up with the morals taught in the two Thomas episodes. But about halfway through STS' first season, the writers and producers most likely found this process too difficult and time-consuming, so they began pulling the episodes from Thomas' first two seasons randomly, starting with "Thomas Comes to Breakfast", which featured Toby, Donald and Douglas - all of whom had yet to be properly introduced on STS. That's why I was never able to keep track of the Thomas episodes as a child until the invention of KZread, which I'm so thankful for. 🙏

I wonder what awdry’s reaction would’ve been to the american dub of thomas and shining time station lol, especially magic railroad, yeah I’m pretty sure we have a good idea on what he would’ve thought LOL.

He probably saw Shining Time Station, since it first aired in 1989, and he didn't pass till 1997
