I'm new to Trout fishing. Living in SW Oklahoma we only get stocked trout through the winter. This video has given me more insight than all the other videos I've watched. Great content. Definitely rigging up the Carolina rig today.

I haven't tried your bait choices (yet), but I've been using your "advanced" rigging for something over 30 years. Before the advent of power baits, we used floating marshmellow bait in white, orange and pink. We also used commercially available "salmon eggs" which were brilliant red. We used treble hooks, though, and the hooks had a wound spring on the shanks. The spring acted as a bait keeper for the marshmellow bait that was a thick paste. If you fish still water lakes and ponds, instead of floating your baits from the bottom, as your two rigs do, use a pencil float and tiny split shot to present the bait from the surface down. In addition to the feel of the bite, you then have the visual clue. I've also had success with the spinners you mentioned but, more than that, I've had some real good days throwing 1/8 Oz Kastmaster and Fiord spoons. Lastly, there are always the guys who ask what a bait is supposed to resemble. Fish, on the whole, are opportunist eaters- they'll eat anything they can. Hatchery-raised planter trout are fed pelletized food (think dog kibble) until they're released into the "wild". They aren't going to find pelletized food they're accustomed to eating and they have no idea what is or isn't edible.

I use a swivel snap like a 3-way and hang a dropshot basically from the snap at leader. You can go weightless and change weights to different sizes based on bait.

Gonna try your "advanced" method. Looks like a great technique. I've also used trout flies (any sinking fly works) under a nickel to quarter size corky pegged with a 1/2 toothpick. An egg can be added for extra attractant but usually isn't needed. GREAT video. Thanks.

Morning. I used a modified version of your tip. I used 2 power eggs on a small octopus hook then tipped it with a honey worm, wacky rigged and a small glow corky to help really float it. Caught a pb 19.5 inch rainbow. The bite was super lite the line just went a little slack reeled down and popped it. Fish on. Was just dead sticking on a lake.

Just big enough to make sure the hook and bait float up. Corky's are pretty cheap. Grab a couple sizes and test it. Start small about the size of a pea. I forget the actual size, cause I buy corky's like once every 5 years.

Unless they have been in the river or stream for year's, stockers have a crappy flavor compared to native fish. I'm fortunate to live in an area of Wisconsin that is loaded with class A trout stream's. We can keep both here and I usually only keep 10 fish per year. I like to smoke em.
