My Favorite Fuji Lens - The 16mm 1.4

So what's my favorite Fuji lens? Well, I decided to make a video to answer the question -- with lots of example photos! This is the lens that I cannot live without. It challenges me in every aspect of photography, and when I put in the creative work and attention to detail, it definitely delivers with some epic imagery in every photographic genre I throw at it. Wide angle, large aperture, and that sweet, sweet pseudo-macro close focusing. Yes, it's the Fuji 16mm 1.4.

Great video and i like your examples you show of your work relating to the lens, i love wide angle shooting and i bought the fuji 10-24mm instead of the 16mm 1.4 and thought the 10-24mm has it covered, but how wrong was i when i bought the 16mm 1.4 this year!! 16mm 1.4 pushes you to use your imagination to compose a good shot i tend to shoot low down when shooting portraits and keep the people in the middle of the frame to avoid distortion, this lens is so versatile that there are unlimited ways of creativity to getting a great shot with this 16mm just got to experiment and use your imagination and look at different angles to get your shot and now this lens is permanently glued to one of my fuji bodies!!

It does make the creative juices flowing and the bokeh is awesome! I also have the MCEX-16 Extension Tube which has transformed both zooms into awesome macro lenses (as if the 16 wasn't enough...lol) so really, I now have, in essence, 5 native lenses.! WooHoo!. By the way, I think it would nice to showcase the MCEX-16 as it never gets the attention it deserves.

I've been too challenged by the 16mm f1.4! I want to take your advice, especially seeing your incredible 16mm pics on Fuji-X Pro Photographers page, however after a 6-month trial, found it just to be too much work/experimentation. However - and even though it may not make sense, I really like Fuji's 18mm focal perspective. So I'm ordering the 18mm f1.4 and will hopefully gain some of the positives over the f2 version. But I think I'm at the same point in my craft: the 23mm perspective is getting too easy and boring, and I want the extra ooomph. Regardless - thank you for your perspective!

You like shooting with a wide like the 16 but with the 3/2 ratio? I think it's the smart way to go. Gives you the best part of the lens and cuts edge distortion. I look at the astonishing film, The Cranes Are Flying, (there's a collage of scenes on one KZread) which has a ratio of 1/1.37, I think, and marvel at all those swooping camera moves all in focus, from 1961. Then it all makes sense. The format is a win win. Early television dramas, like Serling's The Comedian has all kinds of camera and subject movement, but never messes up. And it was live. And that format on TV was even less wide. And of course, you're shooting for prints too.
