I own two of them and I love them. I have filmed in the US, Ukraine, and Central America with them. I had one stolen and ordered a replacement the next day. I shoot tons of photos with the tiny body and have a blast, but the video is great. I use one as my web cam and shoot a pair when I am out and about. The size is so good and easy to toss on a gimble is always a win as well. I also shoot a ton on old vintage glass with old Soviet lenses for a look you can't get with new glass.

Having never worked with raw before, I think I have superpowers during color grading now with the 10 or 12-bit Cinema DNG. I come from a background of hi-8 and dvcam, so alternative cameras are right up my alley. I've been agonising over what move to make with a budget of 2k. It was a tight race between this & the BMPCC4K; I ended up getting the P4K, & it is INCREDIBLE! Having the reduced file size, yet all of the flexibility of RAW is amazing! The picture output is worth the little compromises. The LowLight is good enough with faster lenses, but a .64xl SB will give you an extra stop of light with EF lenses. However, if you're planning a full scale short series or feature film, I think this would be great!! Of course it will depend on your needs.

  • @Ansonandco

To answer you both, I would love to say the FP is the go to, but if you are new I would maybe lean towards a BMPCC 4K. its a lot cheaper and it is VERY user friendly. I think ultimately I would lean towards the FP, but maybe not until you are familiar with RAW. If you are ok with a steeper learning curve, then I would go with the FP simply because its a better built camera and it is a full frame system, which is where the film industry is going more and more.

You’re videos have really helped with some decision making around the Sigma. I was lucky enough to use Sigma-Select to trial the FP for a long weekend just for photography, I was impressed and more than happy with the size. My last decision to make is between the FP and the FP L, the price difference is still huge, and I can’t see why the FP L would be better for video work overall, it definitely is for photography with that increase in MP, but video? Is it worth the extra chunk of change.

That’s awesome! I’m glad the channel has helped 🤘🏻 as far as between the two, if you’re doing video primarily, go with the FP. The readout is faster and it’s made for video primarily. The fp L is great, it does have upgraded AF, the sensor is using an OLPF filter, and you can crop without losing resolution. But for video I think the FP would do just fine

@@Ansonandco bit the bullet, went FP. I guess it’ll be 50/50 maybe more like 50/40 in favour of photography over video. Hi, I'm considering sigma FP as my travel camera (I will have a MacBook on me to reduce the filesize with slimraw), I Have some questions regarding the camera before I will pull the trigger. Maybe you will be able to answer these: - When recording cdng raw - is your monitoring with an internal screen and OLED EVF accurate representation of the recorded image? It would be nice to have a preview that is somewhat similar to the final result (I understand that with raw you can make wonders in Resolve - I shoot mostly raw with Komodo and Amira) I found comments online that monitoring is less than ideal and I want to keep this camera as minimal as possible. Camera/EVF/SSD - I wonder if I use a canon 35mm f2 IS lens with MC21 will the IS work? I find this lens IS very good for video, and because of the size of the FP, it would help a lot with micro shakes. - Can I assign a button to quickly jump between crop mode and full-frame? I would like to have only one lens on me and 35 and 50 (after the APS-C crop) are all I need for my travels. - Is the cropped image quality worse and if so how much? - How good is the internal cndg fullHD raw? Moire, antialiasing etc. I wonder if I could manage with SD cards only for my personal stuff. - Is there a way to assign the button to quickly change 25,50,100 frames? - Is there a way to assign the button to quickly change WB presets? - How is the audio quality (internal preamps). I will use an external mic. Rode NTG video mic. - What kind of SSD do you use. I found a guy who make a mode that the SSD workflow is cableless. Thanks in advance.

Whew this is a doozy of a comment, gotta do some stretches for this one 😂 JK im happy to help. - the rear display and EVF are among the best ive used, the issue you will run into is if you record in RAW it will not really take on any of the color profiles you shoot in, and that is what can mess with people. I tend to grade in a teal and orange type approach and something I have been using to "monitor" my final image is using the "forest green" profile while filming. the RAW won't bake in those colors, but it is decently close to my final grade. that said I would recommmend to go through the built in color modes, and find one that gets you close to your final grade. and whats nice is you can change the curves, saturation, sharpness and contrast in camera for these modes as well. - I have never used that specific lens on the fp, I have not really messed with the MC21 too much, but from what I know about it, yes it SHOULD transmit IS. if it doesn't im sure there are adapters that will. - this is going to be my answer for a couple of things, but there is not a custom button for crop mode, but you will get used to using the quick select menu, and you can put crop mode on that menu. super easy to access. you really want to make that quick select menu as custom as you can to how you shoot to make things go faster. check out my settings video for the fp for further reference to the menu. - some will argue crop mode is better than FF. it is the 1:1 readout for the fp. - the internal FHD is pretty decent. I use it all the time, but yes you will want to watch out for aliasing/moire. sometimes I would rather shoot in 8bit 4k CDNG just to avoid it, this is doable with a fast v90 SD card. just exposure correctly in camera. - no custom button for frame rates, but easily able to add it to the quick select menu. - there is an option to set a custom WB with custom buttons, but it does not toggle through the traditional presets. BUT again, that can be added to the quick select menu. - internal audio is probably good enough for hobby work, but if you want production quality I would look externally. - I use a samsung t5, ive seen the dark labs SSD options, but I have not messed with them yet. but possible good solution if you want to stay smaller. HOPE THAT HELPS!

Hey, Great video really...I was on edge with this one...ah Sigma FP will have to wait. Well it was Pav SZ in the frame with you,no? 😉 he is a big fan of S5 and after his last video about it he convinced me to go that road because of many reason. IBIS usable AF 5.9K with BM Video assist. 20-60 kit lens and the price Pana+video assist+amazing kit lens...around 2000CHF/$ here in Switzerland. Probably you don't know but sigma fp here in Europe is really expensive vs Panasonic...and hard to find used...but it will be probably my next camera because I still find the GH6 too expensive and lacking recording over SSD or at least raw over HDMI...by the way bough an used FD 1.8 50mm in pristine condition in a Fotoshop here for almost nothing...great image on S5 at 5.9K and long focus road great to adapt. Braw vs Cine DNG maybe in a video about image quality with sigma fp that would have interested me...or what are you opinion about it... Yours Fil PS.. Sigma FP and S5 sensor are quasi similar?

Can the Fp capture video in OpenGate mode (4:3 and 3:2) for anamorphic use? I’ve heard some talk around recording in the director’s viewfinder mode. But was unsure if this is merely a desqueeze of the image or if the camera can actually utilize the full sensor height? As for what I’d like to see: I wish it had an option for a hand grip that added an SSD slot. That would be a gamechanger. I hated mounting an SSD to the camera, as it meant I needed a cage… and I had to have a usb cable plugged into the side of the camera. I always worried that I would bump the cable a break the port. Why couldn't they have used a lens mount that made it easy to find lenses? I've been doing photography here in Uganda coming up 3 years now and I don't know one person that has a Leica lens. This camera has some amazing features for the price but having no options for lenses makes this a no go.

@@Ansonandco Nah, I'm in Uganda and the options are sparse at best. Nikon and Canon make up literally 95% of what guys use here. I got into Sony because my 3 pro photographer friends all converted. But here in UG there's almost no choice other than N/C products. The main thing about that particular camera was the specs for shooting RAW and the price for the performance. But if I was someone with Leica products that were easily accessible, I'd be all over it.

@@Ansonandco Exactly. If you never move your head or hands or pick up and show people something in your stream you are doing something very wrong. In you video for example you are frozen in place in order to stay in focus. It ends up looking unnatural. Good autofocus provide the ability to interact much more naturally. You are live. Else you may as well just post a jpg.

  • @Ansonandco

@@robertfontaine3650 ahhhh no offense but I’m going to have to disagree with that logic and approach. AF is convenient for streaming but not a necessity. In the clip you mentioned, There was plenty of movement in that stream. I used the clips I did just to grab the best quality of resolution. But to that point, pav (on the left) was using a Sony AF camera and was more stationary on that stream than I was with manual focus. You just have to work with your focus plane. AF as a whole is a convenience, but is rarely a necessity.

@@Ansonandco Using your autofocus when streaming improves the product dramatically. "working with your focus plane" is the same thing as saying sit stiffly and unnaturally. Great if you are a photographer. Terrible looking product if you are a videographer. It defeats the entire purpose of video and in the world of streaming, vlogging, youpoop engaging your audience is critical. It's not quite as bad as having shitty audio but it is a real visual fail.... and not offended at all. I love the Sigma FP. It is a heck of a value but any 10 year old sony body will make for a much better streaming camera unless you have someone to pull focus for you.
