My Favorite Dexcom G7 CGM Sites | Best Accuracy and Fewest Failures
#diabetes #dexcom #CGM
Ever wondered where you can insert a Dexcom G7 sensor?
Maybe you’ve seen other people living with diabetes wear it in other places than the arm or maybe you’re just looking to give your arm a break.
In this video, I’ll walk you through which placement the Dexcom G7 CGM is approved for in both the US (FDA) and EU (CE mark), as well as other placements that I, and others in the community use.
NB: Remember that off-label placements are at your own risk!

I have a Libre 14 day and like wearing it on my chest...where even with a bathing suit, it can't be seen, doesn't get bumped off and is within easy reach for scanning. Accuracy is good too!
Upper thigh is my favorite spot too! (I’m a side sleeper, so arm sites are compression low hell for me. 😂)

That's an incredibly accurate description; "compression low hell" 😆
I have knocked three sensors off the back of my arm. I will try my thigh next time I do have the most luck with my stomach though! Thx for your helpful video and I’m glad I’m not the only one with this issue!
I wear mine on my chest (I’m a woman), about 4 fingers width from my collarbone. It’s my favorite placement and it’s extremely accurate!

That's REALLY interesting! Are you measuring 4 fingers down right above your breathing, chest , or...? I'd REALLY like to try this. I'm a woman too, by the way! 😊

Yes, wearing Libre 2, second sensor on chest (female) and, coincidentally, about the same measurement from collar bone. It's comfortable, sits under bra strap, or just lower, not likely to be knocked off, no compression lows either. Apart from the 'wear on back of arm' license, I haven't found an issue yet. Also, don't supprt it with other adhesives as I'm allergice to them all, but I've, so far, not seen any of the sensor starting to peel off, or become loose etc. I'd recommend it ;)

@@shellyscorner so if you use the left side put your right hand over your chest and you right index finger aligned next to your collarbone. Measure about 3-4 fingers down and there is your placement. Your thumb should be touching or close to the hollow of your throat

@advancedspecimencollection4740 THANK YOU! The next time I change my Dexcom I'm tryin' it!
Thanks Christel for these suggestions. I have been using the back of my arm so far.
Thigh is my absolute favorite and it’s been the most accurate for me, Thank you for your incredible teaching!
Thank you very much for producing the video.Just got mine today 🙂
This is so helpful as I have been following the strict orders from Dexcom. Have only tried one other place than the top of my right arm and it didn't go so well. Time to try new things. Again, so helpful. Thank you.
Side sleeper here; I hate the arms and the constant compression lows. Team abdomen mostly. I did like the forearm and thigh but my second fav is mid chest. That was my mistake accurate. I seem to switch to abdomen in summer and the other sites in winter.
completely agree with wearing it on the stomach. Best readings I have had and very few signal loss.
Thank you! I just started this device and found large discrepancies is my numbers!
Next sensor is going on my thigh.
Thanks for this topic. I wear the G7 on my abdomen but will try the upper thigh. I’ve had a few technical issues with my G7 and the Dexcom customer service has been great. They have replaced my transmitter even when I tell them I’ve worn it on my abdomen.
I am definitely trying the thigh at my next sensor change !!! Thanks for the advice 😎
Thank you. I just started with these things. I need information.
Young lady, your experience and advice is ALWAYS ON POINT. Much appreciated and THANK YOU SO! 💯👍👏👏

Wow! Keen insights. I have been afraid to place the G7 anywhere but where Dexcom dictated. And have had many more failures than I did with my G6.
Front upper thigh is my favorite G6 placement and I will definitely try G7 there when I switch over!
Thank you thank you. For thinking for us and sharing this info. It helps so much. Appreciate you.❤❤❤❤❤

I'm going to try thigh front next time. Thanks for the tip.
I am a side sleeper too so my favorite site for my g6 is my calf. Very accurate and out of the way! I put a colorful overlay on it and people always think it's a tattoo. 😂
Great Info! I am a side sleeper and It is hard to sleep on left side 10 day then change to right side for 10 days to stop compression lows. The next sensor I am going to try is the spot you are using on the inner thigh. That looks like a great spot. Side note I seemed to get better reading in my right arm as opposed to the left arm. This seemed to be consistent since I went to G7 sensor on the arm. Thanks again for all you do for us diabetics.

The same is happening to me. R arm readings are fine, L arm readings are worthless. I have had to remove several failed sensors from my L arm.
I wear my G7 on my chest 3-4 fingers below my clavicle. I’m a heavier person so I still have enough subcutaneous fat to make it work. It’s been more accurate than my arms and I haven’t had one compression low since I started wearing it there. But I will definitely keep the thigh in mind and give that a try. I’m always looking for alternate places!
Inside arm near arm pit and abdominal is my go to
The best place for me is the stomach area. No issues, however, I will try the thighs next time. Thanks for the info.
Thanks!
Just wanted to add that I probably need replacements 2-3 times a year and I’ve always been honest about my site placement and there has never been an issue.

Thank you for adding that. Great to know
Great video. I have been living with Type 1 since 1990. I have been on the pump for 24 years and using a CGM since their release. I just stopped wearing the G7 on the back of my arm. I was constantly losing communication with my pump. Since changing the location, I rarely lose communication. Thanks for suggesting the additional sites.

Where did you move it to?
You are a lifesaver ❤
As always you are a font of great information. I really dislike the G7 on my arm. Get compression lows often. And it is just annoying. Switched from MDI to a pump recently so was hesitant about using abdomen. Will definitely try the thigh. I do use my thigh for my pump infusion site but will switch around and try stomach also. Thank you so much. Was starting to dislike the G7.
I’m going to try the thigh. I use the forearm periodically and like it. It’s comfortable, and more accurate than the back of my arm.

THANKS HUN ! YUR ALWAYS SO POSITIVE AND SUCH A SWEETHEART I NO DOUGHT FEEL BETTER AFTER WATCHING YUR VIDS !! THX N THX AGAIN !! MY TUMMY WORKS BEST ,,,
I've had great success with chest placement.....I was scared to at first but it has been a very accurate placement. Are you going to make a video addressing apple direct to watch?...Shocked you or Tom haven't yet...I follow you both
I could not use the Dexcom overlay because my skin hated it so bad and very difficult to remove. I found the Lexcam overlay very much better. May try the skingrip next time. And the thigh site.
Yep best site has been the exact same place on my thigh. My upper arm also worked well for G6 but has been horrible with the G7. And yes, I too ripped a few off walking through doorways.
thank you...I'm gonna try this. constantly get compression lows at night back of arm. have very little fat on my stomach, and trying to save it for pods.
I prefer the outside of the arm, I use Skin Grip with the cutout and I really like it. Yes, I do shave the arm, I use a clipper first, then razor. I just had my first Sensor Failure last Thursday night. I replaced it the next morning, I prefer to replace sensors in the morning.

Great tip! Thanks
I hate the compression lows, hence changed my alarm tone to something less annoying. Thankfully I have not had that problem lately, and have only knocked off my sensor once. The back of arm is annoying sometimes as a side sleeper, and I use my arms a lot doing projects, and by the end of two weeks it’s barely hanging on most of the time. I put my libre 2 on the day before the old one expires, heard it can be more accurate that way. The latest one I put on hit a vein, and wasn’t sure it was going to work, but it seems to be working right now after a couple days of reading high.
Thanks for your video. Im switching back to the upper outside of my arm where i used to place my G6 I cant get the extra patch on when putting it on the back of my arm and i to rub it against things.
My sensor placement right above my elbow behind it not on side of it. It worked very well and no lost connection. I don't do stomach anymore. I would have a hard time to place in my back. My thigh would be a no-no. I am hairy down there. I don't to shave either.
I've had so many arm-placed G7s knocked off, that I long ago gave up wearing them there. I started using them on my stomach. I tried my back once, but it was too hard for me to get the tape covers placed, and I didn't want to wait for help from someone else to get it done, and I scraped it off when I was driving. I did knock one off in my kitchen when I was cooking when I hit a drawer.
Upper arm is the only spot dexcom will accept when needing a replacement for the g7. Also only place fda has approved. As of when i got mine a few months ago.
I used to have the FreeStyle Libre 3 and I wore it on my chest, directly under the bra strap. Was comfortable. Then I switched to Dexcom G7 because of the insulin pump t-slim. The area under the bra strap is sometimes good, sometimes not - depending on the sensor. I had no signal loss for 10 days and then again with a different sensor for a few. I'm going to try the thigh now. Thanks for the tip. I personally find the Dexcom G7 much more sensitive compared to the FreeStyle Libre 3.

I wear my G6 on back of arms!! Best spot for me!
Thank you so much for this video I’ve been having nothing but frustration with the back of my arm and calling Dexcom support just about makes me wanna throw my sensor to the moon
I put the current one I am wearing below my nipple its more accurate then on my arm and it is totally out of the way. Can't even feel it. Thank you.
Awesome information! Thigh was one of my fave sites for my G6 too, but have been hesitant to go “off label” locations since switching to G7. I was also hesitant to try a skin grip or patch that completely covered the sensor, as I worried it would potentially contribute to poor signal issues. I’m assuming you haven’t experienced this if you’re recommending them? Thanks for all the great info, as always!

Uh oh, I fogot to use a Skin Tac wipe around the G7. Well, hopefully it'll hold. I do have Skin Grip patches as well.
I have used the Dexcom G6, but soon switch to G7, since the Omnipod is now compatible with it beginning end of July. I usually place the Dexcom on my stomach areas, left and right sides. I just switch sides each time. I do like to use my upper arm or any part of my arm for either the Dexcom or the omnipod. I have used it for the dexcom once and it fell off in the same day, since I sweat so much. The Omnipod is usually on my thigh. I just switch legs after each one. A few times used my stomach. My blood sugar readings have been quite steady while the sensor is on my thigh. I would check with livongo meter once a day at least. With the G6, I have had a few compression lows during the night, but did not too many times. Hopefully with the G7, this will not happen.
I got permission from my doctor to use the G7 on my abdomen as any other location is difficult for me to apply. Dexcom has it on record and have not given me any issues on replacing any sensor which I have an issue with. But I don't think any of them are due to the placement. Just bad calibration readings mostly.
i am on g6 at the moment, changing to g7 soon. in the uk. i wear my g6 on my thigh too. i sleep on my sides and toss and turn. no issues with it there at all
I wear my G7 on my abdomen above my belt line. I have no signal loss problems. I keep it on the side I don't sleep on so there are never any compression lows. I used to wear my G6 on my upper chest. I found I never accidentally caught it on some load I was carrying or on a door. I had such problems when I wore the G6 on my abdomen. So far, the lower profile G7 hasn't been caught on anything when on my abdomen. Thanks for the thoughtful video. I should add that men usually have more fat around their waists than in other places. This is why I think a stomach area mount is a good choice for men.

Back of the arm is AWFUL...I've lost too many G7's to a casual bump against a door or wall. Thanks for the recommendations!
It's also a lot easier to see the overpatch on stomach (abdomen) placement.
I occasionally use my forearm. I get my best readings there. I may true my thigh next time.
I’ve worn mine on the abdomen and believe it or not I got it caught on a shopping cart! Thankfully it didn’t come off. I like the front of my upper arm. It allows me to sleep on either side without lying on it and I’ve never had a problem. I have a herniated disc in my neck so back of the arm placement is very difficult for me. Too much twisting and looking over my arm.

Omg! That happened to me the other day.
I cannot wear it on my thigh or stomach because I have waaay too much scar tissue built up in those areas because I have been a T1D for 48 years and always got or gave myself my injections in my stomach or my thighs. Plus I am a VERY AGGRESSIVE stomach sleeper. I love-love-LOVE to wear it on any part of my arm. I am also not afraid tonwear it on either side of my shins or back of my calves.
I am having signal issues with the direct to watch feature with the sensor on the back of my arm. I will try my stomach because I tend to get better readings there.
I only use the front of my right arm.
The G6 and G7 kept falling off my arm even with the skin grip. I'd sweat and the G7 would begin pinching and it had to come off as it was coming out. If i put on my stomach my fat roll might push it off in sitting (😅). The skin grip causes my skin to rip when it does work. I had to buy goop off. This is after buying Skin Grip. Geeeez. Thanx for this vid!! Gonna try the thigh.
ALWAYS on the abdomen for me, for over 8 years. G6 works like magic there. so should the G7?
I always use the front of my arm. Weird thing, my left arm is always spot on with readings. My right arm takes a day or some calibration "updates".

Much appreciation for the information. Even though I use a freestyle libre 2, I found it very very helpful. I have never heard about “compression, lows“ before, but now I know why my monitor wakes me up three or four times a night. Also, do you know if they make those overlay patches for Skin colors that aren’t the color of a regular Barbie doll? I have looked but I can’t find them.

I use the front of my arm.
I use my G7 on my inner thigh half way from my crotch to my knee......NEVER gets bumped and rarely loses connection and is very accurate,,,,,That area is sensiitve so be sure to shave the spot or removal will make tears in your eyes....lol
I'm mostly concerned with pain, problems adhering/removing, interaction with activities and clothing.
My son the arms readings are exactly the same as his finger and he has the G7.
I’m glad you posted this video. I’ve had nothing but issues on the back of my arm. I’ve been using mine on the abdomen every time and have been getting great results.
I have a t slim insulin pump so I have 2 things inserted at all times. I am a side sleeper and when I tried the lower back I kept getting alerts that the pump and phone could not get readings.
Thank you, I’m just trying to get an answer out of Dexcom when the G7 will be FDA approved to be worn on the stomach and done so reliably I can’t seem to get an answer out of Dexcom or out of Tandem? The only thing I hear is they are both aware of the issue but how am I supposed to know when it is resolved?
I loved the G6 on my thigh. I tried with G7 and didn't work, nor did the low belly. Probably because sleeping I move a lot. The sticker also pulled off with gravity.
Thanks for this video. I tried the G7 on the back of my arm and it simply does not work there. It is disappointing to be lied to about this, not sure what Dexcom is up to with that. I wear it on my abdomen and it work’s absolutely perfectly there.
Honestly… The back of your arm is the best placement after all. I tried pretty much everything and that’s my conclusion. It also is the least visible there under clothing. Besides everything is a matter of habit. Although I wouldn’t slam it into muscles like Tom, just not worth the pain.
I have issues with the skingrips becoming wrinkling and it increases the chances of the "borg implant" getting ripped/torn off. Looking for more TRUE waterproof options as I love my showers.
Hi! I would love to see a video about how many insulin pens one should have. I have one reusable pen and a prefilled one, but I worry about the reusable one if it suddenly stops working. I started with insulin just a few months ago and wonder if I need a second pen. A video about it would be so helpful! Thank you in advance ❤
@DiabetesStrong
22 күн бұрын
I like to have a backup durable pen and at least one box of prefilled pens. I also have syringes. So if the durable pen should malfunction (this has never happened) I can draw out the insulin with the syringes
I have lymphodema in one arm and called Dexcom to see if I could still wear it on that arm and I was told to wear it on my stomach by them. I love wearing it there far more than my arm. the thigh sounds like it could be a good spot also. I do get sensor alerts during the night at times even though the sensor is within 2 feet of me on my nightstand so that is frustrating.
Hi, plz is it also for libre style 2 ... My son just diagnosed 4 months ago ... And I want to know the best place to put the sensor ...if any1 have any recommendations Thx u so much
Always great videos.. but per the instructions in my G6 packaging the only FDA approved placement is 'stomach' - not 'back of arm'. Back of arm and stomach are both approved and 'on label' in Europe - but not US. In US, back of arm is OFF label. Not sure about G7.
@DiabetesStrong
12 күн бұрын
G6 and G7 have different labels. The G6 was only FDA approved for stomach (for adults), G7 only for the arm
I wear it on my stomach. It's just easier that way.
My stomach is not flat, it rolls & britches are worn mid waist, jeans make placement picky.
@dianem7815
12 күн бұрын
Same for me. My stomach is not flat and is "fleshy". It makes me think I would not get accurate readings.
I have G6 did you know if you get blood transfusion G6 takes BS of transfused
I wear my G7 on my chest just above the breast where the tissue becomes thicker. The back of my arm has the most thin, delicate skin, and placement there was a disaster. Directions say to avoid very fleshy areas and that is all that is there! I still have marks after 4 months. I tried putting the very first one on my thigh and the sensor failed so I haven't tried it again yet. On my chest, it is out of view and rarely gets compressed. I am 70 and though my skin is in very good shape for my age, the underlying fat layer is growing thin.
It is hard to reach it and put a protector on it
I wear it on my lower back/upper buttocks - seems the most “out of the way” place. I think it’s only approved for kids that way, but I’ve been doing it for over a year without any issues
I've always done the arm just behind the deltoid, but now I'm tempted to try the abdomen. The one misgiving I've got is the amount of hair around there. I don't expect a problem with the reading, just that the sensor will be rather uncomfortable to remove.
@DiabetesStrong
25 күн бұрын
If you use adhesive remover or maybe even just baby oil it might not be as uncomfortable to remove
At times it hurts a bit when I insert it on the back of my arm. How painful is the insertion on the other locations you are speaking of?
@DiabetesStrong
12 күн бұрын
I don’t think inserting it hurt. However, on leaner areas such as the thigh, I think I feel the insertion more. So you might find that more painful
I've only used the G7 sensors on the back of my arm and other than an occasional compression low while sleeping I haven't had any issues. As I'm typing this I could not tell you which arm the G7 is on without feeling for it. It's that unobtrusive for me. I've started putting on a new sensor but not activating it until the grace period is up on the old one. That way I have no waiting period at all and don't need to calibrate with finger sticks as much.

Mine never last 10 days. I’ll try stomach and leg out
Ohhhhhh. I've had my g7 rip out from my arm and my phone did that baby crying thing in the middle of the night. It scared the 💩out of me
My favorite place is the chest as well. Doesnt get in way. No pressure lows. Dont even know its there. The back of arm is worst place ever. Gets stuck on fridge door, shelves, cloths and i put pressure on it sometimes
On the stomach I had a good reading & no signal loss. However, unfortunately it went dead & stopped working overall & I called Dexcom customer service so they fortunately replaced it. Has this ever happened to you when placing the sensor other places not recommended?

Can I pair my Dexcom g7 with two transmitters? eg my iphone for me and the dexcom receiver for my wife?
@DiabetesStrong

As long as you’re both signed in with your account that should work. According to Dexcom: “Do I need to use my receiver with Dexcom G7 CGM? You have the option to use only the Dexcom G7 app on a compatible smart device, only the receiver, or both at the same time”
Any idea if wearing on stomach would be accurate if I’m overweight? There’s nothing that would make me believe that it would come off or anything, just wondering if there’s quite a layer of fat there, would it still be accurats

I wore Libre on front of my upper arm because it was easier to scan, but I lost a couple from bumping into stuff. When I went over to Guardian I wore it in my chest mostly, tried thigh ones but I got false lows and had to change it and didn't that since. On G6 I used mostly stomach, since it was trickier to fix with on upper arm. Now I'm in my second G7(warmup still going on) and I placed it on my upper arm just before watching your video, haha. The first sensor I put on my stomach but I though I was going to let that are rest a bit.
What about alternative placements for teenagers? Could they try these!

Lower back is approved for small children so would probably also work for teenagers. I would ask your doctor, just to be sure. It might depend on how skinny the teenager is
