Your channel got me into Folio Society and I've since ordered several books from them. I even got their limited edition of Shakespeare, which I really love. It is such high quality. I'm also really enjoying the Neverending Story published by them and recently ordered the Divine Comedy.

I'm a big Taschen fan myself and am looking forward to buying a book from Folio Society. I also stumbled upon Phaidon around a year ago which is, as you mentioned, really good. Maybe you should check out Thames & Hudson aswell if you haven't heard of them. They have a similar catalog of books like Taschen. Greetings from germany!

I hope folio will give you free books ! Because your reviews of these books are outstanding. I for one have bought many folio society books on your recommendations & reviews alone. I wish you well 😊

Thank you for the great video. I also like teneues, assouline, rizzoli, Cambridge Press, McGraw hill, Wiley, Pearson, Abrams, gestalten, and Yale among a few other publishers that I am not remembering now. Harvard, Stanford and a few other university publishers. I am learning about new esoteric subjects’ publishers in Canada and Italy. I too am not able to spend on folio society books especially that some of the subjects seems repetitive and the value compared to Assouline, Teneues and Taschen isn’t really there.

Prices going up isn't surprising given the economy in many countries not being stable at the moment (cause inflation). I never thought of sewn binding paperbacks. When you think seen binding your mind normally thinks of hardback. But I have never really thought about the fact that sewn binding has nothing to do with the cover of a book (I knew it didn't,it's just not on the forefront of my mind, and probably not on others either.

No surprises. Phaidon is a great publisher! Nice to know Faber and Faber is still turning out quality work. They were a favorite publisher back in the 1970s when I was in high school. Folio society is between a rock and a hard place these days. Truly unfortunate. Taschen's entry into the comic book market is yielding great results for the fans and they're avoiding some of the pitfalls of the FS scanning issues.

What do you mean when you say Folio Society is between a rock and a hard place? I am not agreeing / disagreeing, just not sure what you are alluding to.

@@iSlicer Thank you. I just meant there are growing economic realities making costs uncertain for small press publishers from day to day. It is my impression that FS is doing its best to find a reliable market but they seem to have a lot of books sitting unsold. I do know from conversations with them that they publish some books expecting them to take 1-2 years to sell. The PKD LE sold in 3-5 days and others wind up on the 50% off table. Their ideal would be to have a single website selling books in a single currency, leaving the shipping to the customer. Their inability to make that happen, for whatever reason, seems to cause a lot of frustration with customers in north America and Australia. Then there's the frustration of having their books unavailable in certain countries in the EU. They're doing their best to publish more hits than misses. I actually served as a go-between to get FS and an artist friend of mine together on what should be a very popular release this summer or fall. I won't be able to afford it though. That's a problem I now have with all small press publishers.

I also like Library of America (limited to American authors). The paper is acid-free but a bit thin. Good prices esp when ordering on subscription. What's your view? Thank you.

For Fine Press books, I really love the new trinity of publishers: "Lyra's books", "Arete Editions" and "Hand and Eye". They produce some wonderful works of art. Sometimes Suntup and Centipede Press also publish some really nice books in a gorgeous format. I find Folio's editions also quite good. I really liked their edition of the Gormenghast trilogy. The fact however that they have started publishing limited editions of previous standard publications makes me a bit sceptic (see Dune). For normal editions, I really like the books that New Directions and NYRB choose. They are not afraid of publishing not very well-known authors or books. I also like a lot the Library of America series. Quite reasonable prices for cloth-bound sewn editions of American classics. There have been some questions on the choices of some of the authors that are included but I don't care. Since you like Everyman's Library, you'll love LoA. For some of my Italian classics, I have chosen editions from Meridiani Mondadori. Expensive but worth it for what you get. Thanks for your video.

@@mtoad There was an article a few years ago from Newsweek entitled: "Is the Library of America irrelevant" that describes some reservations on the selection of authors. I guess that the inclusion of authors like Philip Dick, Shirley Jackson or Lovecraft created some controversy. Also, the inclusion of some recent authors like Roth or Ashbery gives the impression that LoA is inducing them in the pantheon of classical American writers prematurely. I don't really agree with these opinions but they are being expressed. LoA gives the opportunity to buy some truly beautiful books at an excellent price.
