My Father’s Story / Growing Up Amish / Ben Girod

Joas and Priscilla interview Priscilla's father and mother, Benjamin and Barbara Girod, about growing up in an Amish community and Ben becoming an Amish Minister and Bishop.

The father of my son-in-law was the pastor that was put in jail for having a Christian School in the 1980’s in North Platte, Nebraska. Through this horrible ordeal, we now have the right for private Christian schools. We are so thankful for the ones who have gone before us and fought for the Christian rights for our generations to come.

More, more, more!! I studied the Anabaptist stories in church history in college. Can you take your Dad to Switzerland and interview the man who listened to God and brought reconciliation? What a treasure that would be. More history from your Dad Priscilla. How did God build an Amish church revival through your Dad. I can't imagine how hard that was without family support. My parents were married the same year your parents were. What a journey of following God. I can't tell how blessed I feel listening to this story. Such a feeling of hope. God does hear our prayers for revival. When we seek God we find Him p

Many came from America they stayed In a hostel with the Shaffers hostel living Frances Schaffer and C.Everett Coop later wrote a book called “Whatever happened to the human race” Our youth need places they can learn with there peers about the Lord. Our Swiss need to hear & learn from communities that walk with our Lord. Thank you for your thoughtful interview 🙏 Praise God

Oh my goodness!! I kind of stumbled across this video and it immediately brought back a memory. Priscilla, your dad was part of a reconciliation conference in Pennsylvania that was part of that Anabaptist/Reformed church reconciliation journey years ago. I was there and remember him. I loved listening to his story on this video , but it only scratched the surface of the reconciliation story. I would love to hear more about his journey with that. I think you should do a part two video. This was so good.

This one is very special to us because we know Geri Keller and have heard of the Reconciliation process. We also visited the Amish Country in Lancaster/Pensylvania some years ago and also the places where the Anabaptists were living and hiding in Switzerland. What a story! Thank you so much for telling your parents story. It is a real blessing to us.

I live near Tampico IL in the area of the Tampico Amish Mennonite community. I’ve heard stories from many years ago how non Amish (English) in this area did the same, torched a school they were trying to establish. I just can’t believe people would do that! We love our Amish Mennonite neighbors! They are a thriving community now!

Yes your parents are still young… Apparently he’s 10 years younger than I am!! My grandfather on my mother side was Mennonite. I never knew whether he was connected with the Amish view or not. He died long before I ever learned the difference. I’m so glad God is using such lovely people access beautiful couple. And they’re younger family is beautiful to. Thank you for sharing your life story with us. Biggest thing I’ve learned at the moment, from this story is to release my children to God. He knows what’s best for each of them. I have a daughter newly diagnosed with breast cancer and a daughter-in-law fighting multiple myeloma. Both are cancerous that could well take their lives. I’m not sure were each is with God, but I know only God can change a heart. And blessings on all of you and your stories.

This video brought me to tears towards the end! My grandpa was an old order Mennonite bishop and got 'crucified' as well.. but he had only forgiveness for those who hurt him. He said he didn't want any of them going to hell because of the way he was treated! He stopped( w/ God's help) what could have been bitterness for the next generation! So thankful for history and God's faithfulness!

Such a wonderful story! My father was called into the ministry way back in 1930. While he was working in a cornfield in Iowa and God called dad by his name name and my unbelieving uncles, his brothers heard it too! He Was ordained in the assemblies of God and Started as an evangelist when he was 18. He married my mother and they pastored churches for 28 years.. I grew up as A PK and Praise God, I'm still serving him today at 78. I heard my mom and dad talk about many miracles that took place in their early ministries and after, things you wouldn't believe. I saw some myself. I lost my husband 35 years ago. I had no job, I lost the house because I could not make the paymentsBut God took me places I would never dream I would be. I believe he allowed it to free me up to do his plan. Our God is so good and so faithful!!! What a joy it is to know we will see our soon coming King!!! Blessings to you all, in Jesus's name!!!!

Hey Montana Haven! I really enjoyed the stories told by the parents. I’m not Amish, Mennonite, or Hutterite but I’ve learned much about them in the past 10’years or so. Mostly because God called me as a young boy to smuggle Bibles into closed countries. During the 10 years I took them into China, Vietnam, and Laos young people from Mennonite and Amish families who had been born again and Spirit filled, came over as teams and helped us move almost a million Bibles! Hallelujah. They were the hardest working , joy filled young people I have ever seen. Praise the Lord! I especially liked the Fathers comment in the video about “Hope” and how it is a strong powerful word and not a wistful wish. Our Hope is in the Lord! I live in White Sulphur Springs, Montana currently and grew up not far from here. There are several Hutterite colonies nearby and the Lord is doing His work among them. One young lady went to Montana Wilderness School of the Bible and is now a missionary. Praise God! Blessings on your family.
