My Father's old 1954 Lionel Train Set!
In honor and memory of my father, I'm happy to share with you the
Lionel toy train set that was given to him by his parents in the early
1950's when he was about 10 years old. I also have fond memories
of playing with this train as my father and grandfather looked on.
I guess it's rather old fashioned and out of style now but I wouldn't
sell it for a million bucks. Thanks for joining me on the floor and
remembering this precious toy from just about 70 years ago.

My interest is buying and selling antiques and vintage items mostly
from the 1920's into the mid 1960's. Thank you for watching.

Loved watching this. My grandfather had trains setup in his house, with a whole town like this, and me and the other grandkids would love going up there and playing with them. The smoke, the lights, the mechanisms, the cool old town buildings, lamps, and people… Just so cool. Thank you!
Beautiful memories
I never get tired of watching your train set!
Outstanding! It is wonderful that you have your father’s train set from your grandfather! It’s a beauty!

Built to last! Merry Christmas Scott.
Fun video Scott thanks for sharing!!
Its hard to believe I watched this last Christmas. It was poigant and magical of you to share this with us during lockdown.
What a wonderful memory of happy times! My father had a Lionel layout of early 50s vintage that he kept in the basement. He mounted it permanently on 2 sturdy sheets of plywood that sat on several sawhorses. He carefully painted the boards with streets, lawns, and fields, and there was a bridge and a papier-mâché tunnel. When he wasn’t playing with his trains, the entire thing was draped in old bedsheets. I remember how magical it was when he’d flip a switch and all the little street lights would come on. My job was to put the little smoke tablet in the smokestack of the engine. Great memories - thanks for sharing!
Happy birthday to your dad.
Wow!👍👍❣ Brings back such wonderful memories!!!🥰🥰 You have SO MANY accessories; your Grandfather and yr Dad went ALL OUT!!!😁👍 THAT is a TON of work you put into setting it up!! So, so Pretty!!! THANKS for All the FUN, Scott!!!🎅🎅🎅🎅

So cool. Cherished memories.
Marvelous, Magical Nostalgia. Thank you. Hello in heaven Salem, you are missed.
I watched last. Loved it brought back good memories.
Nice video. Captured nostalgia of a bygone era. Nice Berkshire. Pricey train for the day.
Fantastic doesn’t adequately describe this treasure.
Love to see your train! I know how much work it is to set up and enjoyed it so much last year! Enjoy seeing it again!!
Dear, dear Scott, so nice to see this set up by you for Christmas, like the child that is still in me. I love seeing it, reminds me of Christmas long ago in the late Forties when my Dad bought one for my brother and set it up under the 🎄
Absolutely magical. Brings back fond memories of my own childhood Christmases.
Thanks Scott. Year I was born. We had a HO scale set. I remember it well.
Merry Christmas Scott. I love all of your videos.
What a fun trip, thanks!
!954 it's the same age as me.I was born on Christmas day 1954. I saw Salem.😊
My father got me a Lionel when I was 2 years old in 1954 And I was not allowed to unparented play with it till I was in my teens. Guess who had to be there. I still have it in the original boxes.

Thank you for taking us on this trip down memory-lane❗😄 Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could live in such a well-shielded world, just our family and friends- Problems: Out! World: Out! 🤗 I advice everyone to do this: Scoop up and cuddle your loved ones and kick the mean, heartless world out, tell them how much you love them and that you're sorry if you did anything wrong. 🤧 Merry Christmas, God bless❗🙏🌟
Great train set up. Love it.
I really enjoy how you keep the memories of your family alive through traditions, photos and stories. It warms my heart and sparks memories of my own. Happy Holidays to you Scott!
Not only a heartfelt tribute to your father but Salem the cat also. 💗
How lucky you are to be the keeper of this fabulous memory. It’s magical.
Great seeing this video again Scott. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😉
This never gets old. Thanx once again for sharing.
Scott, that is really wonderful, I didn't see it last year . thank you for sharing again
I was so excited to buy my sons first train set!I had visions of a huge green covered table in the basement, collecting buildings, figures, making landscapes, etc. But alas,he never took to the idea.It took a big back seat to He Man,Transformers,Ninja Turtles and Thundercats.I still get the starter train box out and put it around the tree tho.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I watched each episode of your putting it all together last year. Salem was always there to help. Enjoy your time off from this lengthy task. I hope you are spending it with those you love. JJ in Texas
I think that It's cool that you dedicate this to your dad and grandpa. The first train set I played with was a marx from the '50's. It had belonged to my older brother, my dad's first train was a marx, too. Then one Christmas, my dad got me a brand new lionel set in ho. Don't know how he managed that to this day! Those sets were expensive! It was the best Christmas ever! even to this day. I just got back into it about 40 years later! And, yes, It's a marx! It is a wind up model from about '47- '53 or so. best of luck and thanks for sharing!
Loved seeing the train set again. We had an N scale set for years but our son has it now. Interesting fact..we have an N scale bus system that we found at a flea market. We had never seen one before but my husband was a transit manager and I drove a city bus so it was exciting to find it. 🎹 👍💕
Its still as beautiful as ever.
I always wanted a train around my tree. Me and my sister did get a race car set one year for Christmas and it was fun. I bought a little plastic wind up train thinking it might fit around my tiny tree but it doesn't. I have a ceramic one I made years ago and am content for now that the little wind up one goes around it and the little fireplace. My grandson loves playing with it so I intend to try to find an N scale train for around the tree.
That has to be the absolute coolest train set ever! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. What a wonderful way to remember your dad.
Besides you father's 1954 train I also saw your grandad's 1930s passenger set !
Great train
Absolutely Wonderful🚂🚞 My brother got a train for Christmas one year but did not have an elaborate setup but is was still so 🤩 Thank you for this video as it brought joy to my ❤️ I liked the man 👨🏻 popping out of the shed🥰
Makes me wish I could shrink down and join the fun!
It was this little girl's dream to have a train layout, too, but it never happened. Kind of like the horse I wanted! I had to content myself with building HO models. I love all the signs and the sidewalk clock and figures, and the fantastic houses and buildings you've got! They look alot older than 1955 to me - so cool! I want to move into the white and green house with the big red chimney, and grow flowers on the trellis! Won't you miss setting this up? You might like SMT Mainline's channel - he's like you, he can fix anything! I'm wishing you a very Merry Christmas in advance, Scott.
As your enjoying your Dad's trains he is right next to you sharing the moment.. Sending hugs Scott.. ❤️
This is so magical! Love all the vintage accessories that go along with it! I’m sure your dad appreciates you sharing it with all of us!
Love it!
Wow..unbelievable. Memories around this train, I can only imagine. You inherited more than a train! 🎄🎅
😘 so nice every boys dream as a girl I think I would have loved it,really enjoy your videos thanx for sharing
Merry Christmas, Scott! Thanks for all the wonderful videos this year!!!
Wonderful 😊 Thanks so much. Memories of my grandfather ❤️😍
❤TFS! I truly enjoyed this.
Love me some vintage train sets .
Oh Scott, It is so great to see this train set again this year! I can just imagine how excited your dad must have been upon receiving it for Christmas! And then to pass it on to you! What a fabulous keepsake and the memories they behold! 👍🏻🚂🎄🎅🏻
I remember you setting all this up last year!! I believe you did it because some of your viewers were not going to decorate because of the virus. They were not seeing family and friends??!! I think all this brings back magic to Christmas every time I watch it!!! Thank you. God Bless and Merry Christmas. 🤶🏻🎅🏼👍👍👏❣️💞
Thanks for sharing this with us!! It is so heart warming. Love to see trains at Christmas time. I could smell the smoke from here!
Ah, you’ve done it again ! As soon as you mentioned the train smoke ! Transported back to being 10, watching my neighbours train circle the track, that was set up as a complete trundle under his double bed !! I can remember the smoke, and the sound of the engine tooting … He had four sisters, and I did too… so this was NOT a toy we were familiar with. Thanks for the memory, AGAIN ….
Your grandpa had some prewar passenger cars, telephone poles and signs along with some Marx light poles and crossings. That is in addition to the #45 (prewar) gate man house along with the Berkshire set. Nice collection. The engine sounds like it is regularly and appropriately (not too much) lubricated. It sounds really good.
The train setup is my favorite part of your Christmas display, thank you for sharing!! Hoping you have a very blessed and merry Christmas 🎄
Oh Scott what an absolute treasure you have! Thanks so much for sharing that beauty with us! Nice to see Salem too. 🎄🇨🇦
Absolutely love your whole set up…and how you have arranged it around the tree. You have so many unique accessories. Did your Dad have a train room? Glad it was kept, you are very fortunate.
I still have my Lionel train, a Christmas present from 1963. I still treasure it.
Very nice
Wow that is so cool I have a 1950 I think train set from my grandparents friends when there were about 5 or 6 now they are about 75-79 but it is missed the little power supply
Love me some trains! My 1952Elco Lionel set is with my son now. 🧓 TFS!
Thanks for the 'ride,' I haven't been a train for a while! Looks labour intensive but I'm sure you enjoy it, glad you took the year off! Your mantle is gorgeous, yes, I caught Salem sleeping on the job. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Ahhh...What a Wonderful memory, love trains💙..p.s. 1954 was a good year😉👍 Merry Christmas Scott, Thanks for the Memories 💙
My father bought me trains in 1955 or 56. We ran them for several years. They got put away till I had a son and I added to the set in 1986. They were put away till I brought them out for my grandson 5 years ago. The set has grown to 5 locomotives, 45 cars, four sets of HO trains and two N gauge. They take up two rooms. I went to a train show a few years ago and it was like a nursing home with trains. I was one of the youngest people there. Trains are fun, the kids enjoy them almost as much as the adults do. I think of my dad every day. Enjoy the trains and the memories.
When I went to Gettysburgh, PA there was a train shop. I bought my nephew a lionel train. That was 4 years ago. He is now 8 years old and every year he puts the train set up under the tree. Last year the control box broke. I had to search for another one. I finally found one. Now, i am looking at estate sales.
What an amazing train village Setting it up is a labor of love for you and your father. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for sharing your childhood...my father was an engineer for the Canadian National Railroad...I suppose we would have had a train set too...but he had 4 girls..it would have been fun

He had the real thing to play with.🤗
So many memories my brother and myself were born in the 50s and I remember my brother playing with a Lionel train set
Im 65 and had this exact set handed down from my brothers..nothing better than playing with live voltage lol..was a wonderful toy
Hi Scott, My uncle had a train set like that. As the only girl and two brothers, having a single hard-working mother, I would spend a lot of my summertime over their house. I would love to see the Village of the train set, he would spend hours decorating and leave it up for several months out of the year. I was born in 1952, January I'll be 70. And have so many great memories as a young girl. My grandmother was my babysitter, I took the place as my mother so my mother could work downtown LA. And I loved my grandmother so much, my grandmother passed away😭when I was about 24-25 yrs old.
There was a train that went around our tree & I loved it. It may have been my brother’s. He was 10 yrs older than me. Fond memories of watching that train. There was no scenery, just the train but still fun for me. Again. Thanks for the memories, Scott.
So precious. You will be with your dad, again! That is the real reason for Christ-mas. Jesus loves you. God bless. Ps. My husband has the same train. Unfortunately, our boys never were interested. It is packed away, safely.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My cousin Bobby had a Lionel train set all set up in the basement. Probably around 1955. It was mesmerizing! To operate it he would climb underneath the plywood table to a hole cut out in the middle where he could operate it. To me it was a huge set, but I was probably only 6! It was fun to watch and I’m told he still has it! Thanks for sharing this memory filled video Scott!!!
Good evening Scott 💓
My grandpop had them set up in the basement all year long🚂
Better include restored 20's doll house with next year's train layout.
Can you even find that Magic today
Literally your house must be a walk back on time.
