My Fantastic Scenic Rail Journey from Edinburgh to Aberdeen with Scotrail

Wow! What a trip this was! I was looking forward to travelling on one of Scotrails Inter7city HST's to be honest that was about it, but I forgot about the iconic Forth Rail Bridge and not just that but the super-long and historic Tay Bridge too, leading us into the lovely city of Dundee!
And what a day to be travelling, beautiful blue skies, the summer sun shone down as we skirted past surprisingly quiet but gorgeous beaches and then the sea cliffs as we ventured nearer to Aberdeen.
The scenery was simply stunning on this trip and the train wasn't bad either! It’s truly a pleasure to be travelling on these classic trains and let’s hope they’re around for a few years yet.
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it. I would recommend this route to anyone who has a love of trains, historic landmarks and coastal scenery. One of the best lines in the UK in my opinion.
If you have enjoyed coming with me on this trip, I would really appreciate a like, comment or even a subscribe. I love engaging with you guys and endeavour to reply to every comment.
Thanks again and, cheers for now!

Ol man heard you call it the forth rail bridge. The ol man has worked on the railways for all his life and the bridge is called - The Forth Bridge. I have never been on Scotrails HSTs. Its always been Virgin and now LNER for up the east cost.

Hi Martin, thanks for the comment. Yes, loved this trip - my first time up as far as Dundee and beyond. When you’ve got some amazing scenery combined with the classic 43’s it’s a sure-fire winner! I think they’ll have catering back on them at some point too. Wouldn’t it be great if they went all the way up to Thurso/Wick! 🤔😂

Hi Ray, yes I did something similar a few years back on the Northlink something-or-other. Tell you what though it was rough! Didn’t get much sleep, all I could hear was the bow slamming into the waves! Next morning in Shetland was beautiful though, loved it up there. I flew back from Sumburgh in some old twin prop - probably a Saab? It was before I was into all this tbh, great memories though thanks for the comment 👍

I posted-up that video last week which is a bit back to front but I figured people may get bored of train videos every week! It’s one of those coastal routes where yes, just makes you think I should get off there and have a look around. Fantastic part of the world and underrated/under-visited I suspect.

I was on one of those a couple of weeks ago. The seats were terribly uncomfortable. They were far too reclined. Nowhere near as comfortable as the seats that used to be used on intercity 125's. Their turbostars have the same problem (along with all other turbostars).

Hi Mark.... I remember doing this line from Newcastle to Aberdeen.... God after the fourth bridge your in a different world.... I remember swapping left to right.... as I looked down to my right..... sea lions.... as I looked to my left... the best views of Highland hills and clouds.... that route is now going to be definitely going to be done again by me. As for the painting of the fourth bridge... it did actually finish and then restart straight away at the other side. That was until a secret paint was invented and it had to be kept a secret Due to its long lasting formula , because the likes of deluxe and crown would go out of business if people would not need paint twice. Great video as always my friend... I salute you sir !!

The May Isle is reached by a ferry from Anstruther, to get there you would need to get a bus from Kirkcaldy station if you’re on on the train. On the south side of the Forth is the Bass Rock. They do sightseeing from North Berwick I believe, which again is on the Scotrail network.
